I actually take back some these things I said before jumping in to the video ... I really do agree it's absolutely not funny at all 🥺 It's cringy anyways 🗑🚮😂 Lots of love your way 💞
As an influencer who received the empty Charlotte Tilbury PR package, I was not informed of any "makeup heist" beforehand. The brand told me nothing. I received the lipsticks later in evidence bags with still no explanation. It was really kind of funny. I have no idea what happened or if it was planned or not.
That’s good to know!! It’s so confusing this is like one of the big world mysteries to me now … who built stone henge?…did aliens build the pyramids? …. Was the CT makeup heist planned?
I’m assuming it has something to do with elf’s “over priced” makeup parody video. I saw the video posted from elf but it wasn’t really talked about. It’s literally CT and Elf shading one another.
All evidence points to it was a mistake that they rushed to invent a rationale for. My guess would be influencers received the empty packages, contacted the company, who worked quickly to come up with a story to cover it, hence the low-budget feel. They likely asked the content creators nicely to go ahead and post videos of the empty boxes once they’d come up with their plan. Honestly… there are worse ways to handle a big bungle like this.
Yes!!! They literally stated "some people are receiving empty PR- Noooooooooo, there's no lipsticks!!!" Like dude, why are they so surprised, they should have expected theirs to also be empty.
I remember when E.L.F. were $1 and had no advertising. Look at them now:Making mini movie quality commercials about a makeup heist then having that idea knocked off poorly by a high end makeup brand 😂.
While watching this, I literally got an ad for ELF with "Judge Beauty" during the part where she's saying she stole the lipsticks, in front of the mirror. Well played ELF. Well played.

Ok here's what I think: The giant PR lipstick and the bags of "missing" lipsticks were sent together but the reviewers were told to act like the lipsticks were missing to build engagement and hype for the product. Then the reviewers were given the go ahead to post the "The lipsticks are in evidence bags!" videos.
It does not make sense whatsoever for the brand to send them together, in my opinion. Just think about it: If you were the brand and this was planned all along, would you send the packages together or would you send the empty displays first to ensure the influencers have a genuine reaction in their content? And then send the bags a few days afterwards? It's much easier to let influencers wonder why they received an empty box with no explanation rather then reveal the entire PR stunt to them and ask them to act it out. If even one influencer would have said no to that, their whole stunt would've been spoilered. So it would have been a huge risk to reveal the PR stunt and send the packages together. And it would have been badly planned if they did it that way.
I feel like this is partially an attempt at calling out elf for constantly duping them, as elf just released a short film “cosmetic criminals” about stolen makeup. And in this PR stunt, Charlotte Tilbury said stuff like “the one that should be reporting a cosmetic crime is me”, “no one can steal my beauty DNA” and “If you want the REAL thing, the ORIGINAL. It’s Charlotte Tilbury every time.” It’s quite a blatant hit at elf dupes. Kelly Gooch made a pretty good video explaining it.
@@saram3449 Yes, I just said that he didn’t mention the theory that Charlotte Tilbury was calling out elf in her campaign. He did acknowledge the elf one was similar.
Kelly Gooch did a great video on this 💄💕 CT says **I’m** the one who should be reporting a crime” as an intentional jab to e.l.f. who has been very successful at duping CT products (and of course e.l.f. just ran their crime theme ad). CT was trying to clap back but honestly the waste of packaging alone makes it fall flat 😬
Oh you're right, watching the video of CT in that context makes perfect sense! Except now her ad is the cheap knock-off 🤣The elf ad was brilliant, this is cringe AF lol
i think this entire thing is to shade elf ngl… like “stealing charlotte’s blueprint” kind of feels like a nod to elf’s dupes of her products and this was subtle shade to that as well as “copying” one of elf’s ideas in return
second this! add that to the fact that e.l.f. just recently had a "Cosmetic Crimes" campaign (that they're continuing with a Super Bowl ad tonight) and it definitely doesn't seem like it came out of nowhere...
I think she’s fighting fire with fire. It was planned totally. Pretty shifty everything has a double meaning right Down to the bad acting insinuating that ELFs products are badly replicated. I like ELF products better than CT. Pretty ingenious on CT’s advertising department. 👿. ♥️☮️🖤
Its a nod to E.L.F. but it didnt go over well. I was on the side of thinking it was an accident UNTIL you mentioned E.L.F. and Makayla. The addition of her solidified it was a stunt to me (my opinion). Influencers other than Makayla have been known to bait and switch. "This mascara makes me look like I have falsies!" or "This product plumped my lips! Looks at the results!" Yeah, ok. Say whatever to get that dollar.
I read somewhere that Charlotte Tillbury is making a dig at Elf beauty with the ‘you can’t steal my beauty dna’ line. If you notice, in the video one of the sisters says “I wouldn’t steal your beauty dna” while piling a load of elf makeup into her makeup bag. Or maybe I imagined that😅
If you're referring to the clip in this video at 11:39, she's piling CT products in her bag, not E.L.F. products. (They could be the original products that were duped but they aren't E.L.F. branded products, which is what I thought you were saying.)
I legit paused to read the box hoping for some tie in but apart from the little stage light pattern on the inside of the box there no references to Hollywood. Was a good idea but poor execution
Considering how many old stars of hollywood are renowned for their iconic looks, especially a red lip, this is such a missed oppportunity. Why do these companies put the barest amount of thought in anything. MAKE A FUCKING EFFORT.
They could have had so much fun with it, also! They could have printed the names of the actors on the lipstick - wouldn't have had to be just women! - and maybe their most fabulous or most popular movies, so it would have inspired younger people to look it up. Would also go great with the mob wife aesthetic right now (I know, it's a fad and probably cringe in 3 weeks, but still). There are so many possibilities to have a cool twist, I don't understand it. People who are working in THESE positions can't just have a place there for nothing, right? Shouldn't they be way ahead of the game?
@pixieezakura9421 Ikr! What screams more glamourous than iconic actresses or even roles! Imagine a warm Gilda orangy-red lipstick! A Lorelei Lee true (glittery👀) red! A Maria Vargas Spanish red! Or the most obvious of all: Scarlet O'Hara?! Even if all of Charlotte Tilbury's lipsticks are always the same shades of pink/red done over and over again, at least make an effort to stay cohesive with what you're selling.
Dahhhhhhling I love that you give viewers a word to comment if we can’t think of something. It’s smart and transparent. And helpful for me, too, because I always overthink it and rarely leave comments because of that. I’m an ultra-small creator, so I know why engagement matters, and I STILL find “just comment ‘algorithm’” to be so helpful. I may borrow the idea from you in the future 😂
6:40 not to mention some states in the US don’t even recycle because it’s not federal law for some reason. My friend in Texas used to set up office spaces and she said that the company just put in recycling bins to make the employees “feel better.” It all went to landfill. (Not saying this is the case in all of Texas idk but I wouldn’t be surprised)
Yes! When I visited friends in North Carolina, I asked "what about recycling?" I was told it was practically non-existent. They weren't happy about it either since they're Scandavian and in Sweden there are recycling bins labeled paper/cardboard, glass, plastic, etc. We need to do better.
@onimendez7735 I live in N.C., and the large metro areas here have great recycling, but many rural parts of the state are still definitely trash-burning country (like most rural areas everywhere).
Love your TH-cam videos. I listen to you all night in one ear while I work and rewatch most of your videos when I can actually watch the content. Thank you! You keep me sane on the graveyard shift. I also find myself scrolling for your videos when I can't sleep once the sun comes up. I am very enthusiastic about skincare and make-up.
There was a Charlotte Tilbury advertisment, with her talking about her products. If i had ever considered buying anything of her's that ad put me off for life. She was grotesque.
Yea I bought two things a few years ago and have them both away (and I don’t own a lot of makeup) online and in their promos they try to exude glamour. The packaging looks and feels cheap IRL, there’s no weight at all to them.
It's the over filtered Ness of the commercials for me. Also the fact I think she thinks she has a good side/angle and commits to it in everything. I just can't put my finger on it but something about their attempt at camp just feels so flat.
Got the notification for this and I’m straight here. Charlotte Tilbury has never been a brand I’ve particulary been into, yet I love the goss surrounding it.
Also totally agree with you regarding the ridiculous packaging. So so so bad for the environment, people might keep them for a bit but ultimately they will end up being binned!
E.L.F. obviously has a very creative ad team with a fabulous sense of humor! As I'm enjoying a binge watch session, I keep getting a hilarious Judge Judy spoof called Judge Beauty! I's short, it's quick, it's very funny!
I was scrolling thru TH-cam shorts and I did catch one of these videos where the person received the lip liners but no lipsticks. This is really so crazy… [edit]: Also, speaking of elf, what do y’all think about the theories that the CT videos were throwing shade at elf and the “steal my DNA” is a reference to their duping of some of her products?
There’s a comment on here saying a creator did a video on this and yes they were supposed to report the lipsticks missing as a “crime” bc e.l.f did their crime ad. But I think it was a mistake maybe then they made something up on the fly?
@@CherrrrBearlol I have worked in PR and there's no way whatsoever it was a mistake, for many reasons. When you are creating marketing pieces like this you have to order each item used, someone assembles the PR package, at least one other person goes through a checklist to 1.) Make sure nothing is missing 2.) Make sure products are in the right place and 3.) Quality control for any defects. They spend a lot of money on marketing and promoting, and it will backfire badly if you screw things up or people get damaged goods and give it a bad review. They sent this PR to people like Mikayla with HUGE audiences, so they wouldn't screw up this huge accidentally. How would they not notice all these lipsticks they ordered were still sitting there? 😂 That's the product, that's the most important part! If it were one person who received no lipsticks it's possible it was an accident but everyone did. And as much as most of us think it's a bad campaign, just how much free attention did they get? Now even people who didn't get their PR package are making videos and folks are talking, it worked!
I'm sorry to say this.... but I cannot watch CT ads. I quickly mute them. They are so over the top, and not in a good way. But you have to give them credit for sending the lipsticks in evidence bags. That was genius!
DARLING, can't wait for the Tilbury Panto to go on tour 😂 none of those infiuencers can act to save their lives, it's a deeply odd and cringey ad campaign of lasses not getting luxury lipsticks in a climate where most of us are skint.
Ironically, CT could have waited and gotten media coverage for free as people were already mocking elf, the queen of dupes, for making a crime video about theft when they steal most of their ideas. They could have looked classy, posh, & luxury, but they demeaned themselves and had to pay a firm to roll this out.
I wouldn’t believe Mikayla for anything. However, the fact that CT made a low budget version of the elf video makes sense. They’re probably getting back at them for making low budget versions of their makeup and usually quickly after a CT launch. This all makes sense to me.
lol people getting mad at some lone creator who fucked up trying to get some bread but are fine with huge companies using basically slave labor without a blink 😂
@@ZomBeeQueeen except u know nothing about me so have no idea what I’m ok with. I can dislike liars in every category of life. Our values don’t match up and that’s okay but u shd probably not assume so much. Just a little life lesson for ya 😉
This is a sort of obscure and very American reference but I sort of imagine the scene from The Brave Little Toaster where the old junk cars are all sad because they’re junk and they’ve been discarded….i imagine this scene but with all the PR products just sad and forgotten singing about how they used to be viral lol
"Worthless"!!!! To this day, it's still way too dark a song to be in a kid's movie. A bunch of broken, used, past-their-prime cars singing about no one wanting them before dying before our eyes.
I think Charlotte went on a rant over ELF “stealing” from CT and this was a PR stunt to try and make it seem like it was all part of a campaign. They’re just trying to make it look less messy.
As a non-make-up wearer I feel like ELF makes things more fun, I loved the Judge Judy AD (That popped up during this video 😂😂) and the OG heist video, that was hilarious, but this was a big ol mess. 🤣🤣
The funniest mixups I saw was when Holo Taco’s customers got MoonCat (iirc?) boxes when a huge launch came out. Apparently they use the same factory (makes sense) but we it was taken in stride unless you paid extra for the collectors box
The only thing I loved was when the brand sent the lipsticks to the influencers in evidence bags 😂😂😂 they could have been less wasteful with the pr box tho..
I would be more inclined to believe that it was planned ahead of time if they left some kind of note or clue in the empty PR boxes that would act as a kind of scavenger hunt/mystery where you have to solve a bunch of clues to find out who ‘stole the lipsticks’ and then they would send the person the lipstick if they solved the mystery.
This is 100% a diss intended towards elf because they dupe CT all the time. "No one can steal my beauty dna". Well guess what CT, not everybody believes in paying high dollar for crap
Honestly If I was going to pay high dollar for makeup, I would not pick shallot dahlibg tillburry. I'd pick a brand that does decent packaging and has more product in it per gram or ml
Some people have said that this was a jab at ELF duping them, which is hilarious to me bc the consumers are largely supportive of duping as a whole 😭 did they think we were going to suddenly turn on the brand that makes low cost, quality versions of their overpriced products and without the shady company history to boot?
They got caught sourcing from North Korea and everyone ignored it because "MUH CHEAP MAKEUP". I dropped them at that point. Makeup lasts a while and there are much better brands. I used to trust them for having safe, cheap ingredients, but they are actually shady. Turns out they are sweatshop makeup. How did you think you got things for $2 USD? It obviously wasn't through honesty. It was through exploiting people. But never throw out the makeup you already bought, that just means you're causing more waste. I used up what I had and that was it. I still have my ELF brushes. They'll probably outlast a nuclear war. I can also think Charlotte Tillbury is overpriced, overhyped, and absolutely tasteless on everyone. But unfortunately as someone who used to love ELF? I know. Was an unfortunate "makeup breakup" but we learn and we grow. Cheap makeup means blood on our hands.
Lol @ the back to back elf & ct ads playing in the middle of this vid 😂. Of course the elf one looked less low budget than the one of Charlotte trying to influence her own product 👀.
It's weird because I do think it was an actual planned campaign, and I think SOME influencers are in on it. It's possible that the brand didn't pay them, but just reached out to some of them with the idea. I'd personally want to be paid if I were a part of a campaign, but I'd also imagine that the views that they got for being one of the ones without lipsticks might be compensation enough? One of the few times that "exposure" pays.
I admit that sometimes I have a little PR box envy (there was a recent one from YSL which had me starry-eyed) but honestly if a brand sent me a giant container sort of shaped like a lipstick that I would have to dismantle because who has that kind of storage room, that brand is now my enemy. That being said, Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks and lipliners are amongst my favorites and they're always welcome to send me freebies but like, in a normal box, not in something the size of a small human.
7:04 "It's a lot of fuss for absolutely nothing" Totally agree with that statement. Like you said, really unnecessary and actually bad for the environment. A nice little box with a cute card with all the information - sometimes simpler is better 🌾✨
I feel as though this was 100% a last minute ‘save the day’ scramble from CT. The packages had gone out, the mistakes had been made and they had to quickly assemble a GCSE Drama performance of ‘whodunnit?!’ If it were real, you KNOW the true ‘lipstick stealer’ would have been revealed in a Christopher Nolan directed mini film-noir with Kate Moss dressed as Marilyn and Charlotte Tilbury cropping up stage left tilting her head to her favourite angle declaring ‘the case has been solved’ like she’s blady Hercule Poirot 😂
I agree with you that it didn't seem planned, but the fun spin they put on it was a good save. I do feel like _some_ of the influencers seemed like they were acting, and perhaps pretended to get an empty package just for views 🤷♀️
FR. I just generally believe everything she says is a lie now and will avoid products she likes as she'll likely just paid to like it. I don't get why anyone still believes her
@@og_prozac I cancelled my P.Louise box after she worked with them :/ I just filmed my last one which was from like August 😂 but now I have to find something else

It's not much of a theory, I think it's pretty clear that's what's happening.
@@missbeaussie I realise that, I called it a theory because Robert didn’t mention it.
I mean, but do you blame her…?
@@teachmetohowlRobert did bring up elf’s cosmetic criminal campaign though
@@lucyjane3803 I loved the elf ad honestly. The prices Charlotte Tilbury charges are the real crime!
She's so snobby imo! Bet she spends her downtime huffing her own farts 😂
That’s cringe as hell
Brands beefing like celebrities is so cringe
i think this entire thing is to shade elf ngl… like “stealing charlotte’s blueprint” kind of feels like a nod to elf’s dupes of her products and this was subtle shade to that as well as “copying” one of elf’s ideas in return
second this! add that to the fact that e.l.f. just recently had a "Cosmetic Crimes" campaign (that they're continuing with a Super Bowl ad tonight) and it definitely doesn't seem like it came out of nowhere...
The bag she holds up when she says, “I’m the one who should be reporting a crime” is full of Elf products
It so obviously biting off of/shading elf which is why it probably looks so bad and rushed
It is, that's the whole reason for this. She's copying the cosmetic theft marketing ELF just did.
I think she’s fighting fire with fire. It was planned totally. Pretty shifty everything has a double meaning right Down to the bad acting insinuating that ELFs products are badly replicated. I like ELF products better than CT. Pretty ingenious on CT’s advertising department. 👿. ♥️☮️🖤
I love your shallow paddles more than some deep dives. Just all the cliffnotes 💜
9:57 that sounded like an Oblivion NPC dialogue the way it was delivered, hahahah xD
I laughed way too hard at the slip of “IKEA shelf” 😅
lol yes that quick jab was great.
I love your "shallow paddles". Who wants to put on scuba gear to learn about a PR disaster?
Haha well said!
The influencer version of sending an email without the attachment 😂
The first thing I thought of was the environmental impact of these over the top PR boxes! Thank you for mentioning it!!
PS: Robert, I totally agree with you! I'm so over these giant PR boxes! Put it in an envelope or a small box!
Or maybe I imagined that😅
Yeah! That was in someone’s video - I can’t remember who… maybe Audra?
Whoops! It was Kelly Gooch I saw talking about it.
@@268anita I’ll have to watch that now😂
If you're referring to the clip in this video at 11:39, she's piling CT products in her bag, not E.L.F. products. (They could be the original products that were duped but they aren't E.L.F. branded products, which is what I thought you were saying.)
There's a clip where Charlotte is holding two evidence bags. In those bags are Elf products (like their halo glow) if I saw correctly.
If the collection is called "Hollywood Icons," why aren't the lipsticks named after Hollywood icons?!
I legit paused to read the box hoping for some tie in but apart from the little stage light pattern on the inside of the box there no references to Hollywood. Was a good idea but poor execution
If it was Hollywood icon themed they could have done a million different things but chose to rip off another company.
Your genuine laugh always makes me smile.
Dahhhhhhling
I love that you give viewers a word to comment if we can’t think of something.
Yea I live in a rural area of NJ and everything is private we don’t even have a town garbage collection
Look into the huge percentage of “recycling” ending up in landfills in North America. Companies collect them and don’t actually process them.
Well with all the people moving to Texas expect things to change over the next few year's
I used to buy a lot of CT products, but their marketing just got too cringey over time.
Also: huge jump scare when Mikayla appeared on the screen 😅
I JUST GOT MY SHAWWWWWLIT TILLBURY
This makes me miss the days of no internet and you found makeup brands in magazines and tv commercials. 😂
The perfumes in magazines, just a nice smelling card insert lol
I completely agree with your views on the packaging.
Everything about her and the brand feels late 90s….and not in a good way
Same. I am cured of ever wanting anything from that brand.
I skip her commercials immediately. They irritate me so badly!
Yea I bought two things a few years ago and have them both away (and I don’t own a lot of makeup)
online and in their promos they try to exude glamour.
Darling! I love your breakdowns of these PR fiascos. 🤣
Thank you 😂🖤🖤
Got the notification for this and I’m straight here. Charlotte Tilbury has never been a brand I’ve particulary been into, yet I love the goss surrounding it.
Also totally agree with you regarding the ridiculous packaging. So so so bad for the environment, people might keep them for a bit but ultimately they will end up being binned!
Dahlllinggggg, thank you for the giggle this morning. Thank you also for the awareness that this has such a negative impact on the environment. ❤
E.L.F. obviously has a very creative ad team with a fabulous sense of humor!
This is really so crazy…
[edit]: Also, speaking of elf, what do y’all think about the theories that the CT videos were throwing shade at elf and the “steal my DNA” is a reference to their duping of some of her products?
I think your edit part seems very plausible. It makes sense to me.
Oh. That's an interesting theory!
There’s a comment on here saying a creator did a video on this and yes they were supposed to report the lipsticks missing as a “crime” bc e.l.f did their crime ad. But I think it was a mistake maybe then they made something up on the fly?
No question. They were definitely having a go at elf.
😂LMBO Thank you, this is funny!
Anytime her ads pop up anywhere, I skip it immediately 😂
I keep them running so she'll get charged the advertising fee even though I have no intention of buying any...lol
I can’t stand it!! Totally puts me off buying anything!! So tacky🤮
The packaging reminds me of shall we call it a personal pleasure electronic device!😂
They're angry that E.L.F.s low-budget versions are actually better quality and far more appealing to a wider audience of consumers.
lol people getting mad at some lone creator who fucked up trying to get some bread but are fine with huge companies using basically slave labor without a blink 😂
@@ZomBeeQueeen except u know nothing about me so have no idea what I’m ok with. I can dislike liars in every category of life. Our values don’t match up and that’s okay but u shd probably not assume so much. Just a little life lesson for ya 😉

I was cringing so much through this. CT didnt hit the mark with this one

I only know that film thanks to BionicPig. The internet is a strange place
Im english and The Brave Little Toaster was one of my fave childhood films

I think Charlotte went on a rant over ELF “stealing” from CT and this was a PR stunt to try and make it seem like it was all part of a campaign. They’re just trying to make it look less messy.
Shallow paddles, dahling.
New-ish sub randomly dipping into Robert's back-catalogue.
MN's fakeness is literally the fakiest fakeness OF ALL TIME!!! It's so bad it actually gives me 2nd hand embarrassment 😂😂😂

Mikayla saying "CHAAAA-lit" is killing my eardrums, I'm so sorry
She ruins the English language as a habit. The over done swearing is not appreciated either.
As a non-make-up wearer I feel like ELF makes things more fun, I loved the Judge Judy AD (That popped up during this video 😂😂) and the OG heist video, that was hilarious, but this was a big ol mess. 🤣🤣
I hope you have a lovely Valentine’s (DARLING)!!♥️♥️♥️ #LOVEROBERTWELSH
That looked like something from 50's-60's low budget theatre advertisements😂😂. Wt* are they smo*****??
i agree the pr boxes are a hassle and feel like a waste!!
Charlotte Tilbury - all fur coat, no knickers. 🤣🤣🤣
she is creepy a tart
The funniest mixups I saw was when Holo Taco’s customers got MoonCat (iirc?) boxes when a huge launch came out. Apparently they use the same factory (makes sense) but we it was taken in stride unless you paid extra for the collectors box
I do agree with you.I ordered from their website before often had some missing items specifically during the sale.
The only thing I loved was when the brand sent the lipsticks to the influencers in evidence bags 😂😂😂 they could have been less wasteful with the pr box tho..
@ville__Stop spamming. Boohoo, you will get no subscribers from spamming a comment section.
Welcome to Capitalism, baby!
“This is a shallow paddle” I’m HERE for it
DAWWWLING, I'm here for the doggy paddles and your commentary on these topics.
Didn’t Elf just do this 😂😂
(Edit…two seconds later you JUST said this 😂😂)
The “beauty crime” was that “acting!”
Yay for packaging designers! 🎉. Congratulations on using your degree❤
Darrrling! Also, what a balls up 😂 I get maybe forgetting one or two, but to do every box it’s gotta be a PR stunt! Just a very odd one
Lol @ the back to back elf & ct ads playing in the middle of this vid 😂. Of course the elf one looked less low budget than the one of Charlotte trying to influence her own product 👀.
Now the real PR stunt is getting people talking about whether it was a stunt or an accident 😂
The most hysterical one is Mikelah getting duped. LOL
@ville__ Happy birthday, now stop spamming.

This huge PR packiging from CT was soo stupid! With or without lipstick...😂 THANK YOU ROBERT FOR TH8S VIDEO! ❤
Robert: "Please just tell me, I won't tell anyone"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This was a fun video!❤
7:04 "It's a lot of fuss for absolutely nothing"
Totally agree with that statement.
