I'm 41 and agree. I use darker lip liners and especially on the upper corners of my lips and it looks great. You *can* still use darker lip liners and lip colours as you age. You just learn different placements and tactics to make them flattering for *you* , as again, we're not all the same.

Every time someone really emphasizes their sources country of origin, I get suspicious Like, obviously there's exceptions, but the tiktoker put 10 seconds/30 into establishing their source was from Mexico, and for some reason it made me question their motives. also, gut instinct says that if combining too light and too dark foundations _is_ common practice in Mexico specifically, it has more to do with the range of skin tones common in Mexico vs the (until fairly recently) limited range in most foundations
Omg the amount of clients that tell me that they set their concealer with powder, then apply their powder shadow on top and wonder why they have crepey-looking lids...
I recently had to explain to someone why using baby powder to “prep” their eyelids was the reason why their shadow was pale and hard to see, and I ended up having to sacrifice an old pigment to prove that no, when you mix white powder with any color, it will lighten and fade… I later found out she had been trying to copy the way I wear pastel eyeshadow… I use the Nyx jumbo liner in white as my base for pastels. She apparently figured white was white, and formulation/product type wasn’t relevant. 🤦🏼♀️
These videos when you're helping teach us techniques are so good. Your advice is so ready to follow and you're so nice about correcting the people in the videos. It just does your innate kindness so well.
I’ll be honest, I’ve put powder over my eyeshadow primer as I’ve learned to blend my shadows lol. Now that I’m more confident with my makeup skills, I’ve been pulling away from that and working on bettering my skills overall

There are channels here on YT with mature women. The only one that comes to mind at the moment is Hot & Flashy. Another that I've seen, and she looks lovely, and elegant is a woman in her 80's. In the search bar try looking for make-up for mature skin, and makeup tips for mature skin.
In indonesia some MUA heating the foundation (bakar foundation) to make it last longer because indonesia have a very humid and hot climate, and some people have their wedding outdoor. They usually mix cream foundation and liquid foundation and then heat it up. They say that heat remove the oil from the foundation so there is just pigment that sit on the skin. But even me as a Indonesian MUA i’m not doing that for client because i’m afraid there will be other chemical reaction that will give bad effect on the skin.
That sounds, IN THEORY, like a useful strategy but I would definitely be concerned that interfering with the formula & burning or evaporating off binding agents would affect the way pigment is distributed or change the colour.

omg as another indonesian that explains why those MUA vids depict them mixing a liquid and cream foundation on a spoon and then heating it up lol. very full coverage foundation is quite expensive and i heard it makes the foundation crack less!
The only advantage I see to putting cream stick directly onto skin is the warming of skin makes blending easier in mid winter (I live in northern U.S.), which is why I put a stick layer on the back of my hand and use a brush to pick it up from there.

Same. It looks like 5 yr olds doing makeup. I understand the initial concept, but I always hate when trompe d’oeil techniques become blatant, and trend replaces natural human aesthetic. Especially when some feature that is common but not exclusive (some lips have cupids bows, some don’t - both are incredibly normal) is declared “most attractive.” I have heavy brows so I’m a bit salty about how my brows stay the same but some decades I have the ugliest brows in the world, some decades they are so great that strangers inquire.
This is just an ignorant rando's opinion of course but I get the vibe the giant overlining is one of those techniques made for "influencer/on-camera makeup" rather than wearing out in the real world. On a small screen and viewed only face-on or maybe at a slight 3/4 view the illusion holds, but once you can't control the exact lightning and angle everyone sees it from the optical illusion falls through
The only times I think it's effective are when someone has a very flat lip border [so the illusion isn't killed when viewed at an angle] OR when someone is clearly inspired by a cartoon character with a flat upper lip like Kim Possible or Shego. 😅
I think it depends on the lip shape - it does look nice on some people. And, I believe, whatever floats your boat - as long as they're happy with it, it's great, maybe they want a fun clownish look. For me personally I also don't enjoy this look, and I never overline the cupid's bow in that manner.
Me too. It always looks awful no matter who it’s on. Don’t get me wrong- wear your make up however you want and whatever makes you happy. But the lip lining thing just looks awful.

17:36 the white isn't even really used as a base by the looks of it. She just mixes in a foundation that is too deep for her into it while it is still wet, basically making this a 'hack' for matching your actual skintone in a roundabout way 🧐🙄
The "color as texture" thing would make sense if makeup formulation didn't account for physical differences in pigment. Like titanium white and iron oxide behave differently on their own, but when makeup is formulated, formulations can be tweaked to account for pigment differences (molecule size, how well the pigment mixes into the rest of the ingredients, etc.). I suspect that anyone who tries this hack is benefitting from paying more attention to their blending, like how Robert talks about pushing the product into skin whenever he does tutorial videos.

At fast approaching 74 I was so glad I watched you for the first time today. I’ve been pretty lax in doing my makeup unless going out. But seeing you and your brush work made me aware of what I’ve been doing wrong the last few years. I’m getting rid of all the sponges and applicators today and would gladly let you work on a mature face 😊flawless skin I might add. What brushes do you use.
I'm an oily one, and nothing works on my eyelids like Sigma eyeshadow primer. Thank you, Robert! I use it on all of my clients with oily skin, and some other clients just request it.
I LOVE Froartistry (the woman with the lip lining tip). She's from Canada and she does workshops that are always well attended and I always wish I could go. She's so stunning.

On a small screen and viewed only face-on or maybe at a slight 3/4 view the illusion holds, but once you can't control the exact lightning and angle everyone sees it from the optical illusion falls through
The only times I think it's effective are when someone has a very flat lip border [so the illusion isn't killed when viewed at an angle] OR when someone is clearly inspired by a cartoon character with a flat upper lip like Kim Possible or Shego. 😅
I think it depends on the lip shape - it does look nice on some people. And, I believe, whatever floats your boat - as long as they're happy with it, it's great, maybe they want a fun clownish look. For me personally I also don't enjoy this look, and I never overline the cupid's bow in that manner.
Me too. It always looks awful no matter who it’s on.
Don’t get me wrong- wear your make up however you want and whatever makes you happy.
But the lip lining thing just looks awful.

The best eay to practice yoir make up and have fun, experiment before you wash your makup off. Play with your shadowing on your face... Gobinto different lighting and have fun!!! Make up washes off!!!

17:36 the white isn't even really used as a base by the looks of it. She just mixes in a foundation that is too deep for her into it while it is still wet, basically making this a 'hack' for matching your actual skintone in a roundabout way 🧐🙄

The "color as texture" thing would make sense if makeup formulation didn't account for physical differences in pigment. Like titanium white and iron oxide behave differently on their own, but when makeup is formulated, formulations can be tweaked to account for pigment differences (molecule size, how well the pigment mixes into the rest of the ingredients, etc.). I suspect that anyone who tries this hack is benefitting from paying more attention to their blending, like how Robert talks about pushing the product into skin whenever he does tutorial videos.

At fast approaching 74 I was so glad I watched you for the first time today. I’ve been pretty lax in doing my makeup unless going out. But seeing you and your brush work made me aware of what I’ve been doing wrong the last few years. I’m getting rid of all the sponges and applicators today and would gladly let you work on a mature face 😊flawless skin I might add. What brushes do you use.
