    Good luck with... oh, it's already over :P Anyway, leaving extra time is always a must for travel, followed by making backup plans (like if your 3G fails, or if you get lost).

    I like the video improvements you've been doing recently, I can tell the quality has gotten better. Like scene transitions, music during the transitions, all that is great. And I don't know if it's just me, but it sounded like you were talking a little slower.

    I always find it interesting hearing about how differently ASD can affect people. I am hyposensitive when it comes to visual stimuli (in terms of seeing lots of different things at once), but hypersensitive to audio stimuli. Bright lights at gigs do throw me off though and I much prefer dimmer lighting. The beeping when some trains stop in Scotland to let you know the doors can open makes me dizzy and I feel I can't think. Makes my heart go like the clappers for about a minute, too. Some announcements on aeroplanes make me slam my hands to my ears. I feel very lucky that I don't seem to get travel anxiety, I generally enjoy it. Love the channel, mate.

    I had a worst case scenario when driving the length of California for a visit. My car had no charger and my GPS started wearing down my phone battery...fast. I started to panic, and there I was on insane hwy 5 between giant semi trucks so I couldn't even see the hwy signs. The tears started...the banging on the steering wheel...then guttural screams...Somehow I made it into the exit lane and got off. Then I tried to compose myself, but with the phone battery dying I just couldn't. I knew I needed to get somewhere I could charge my phone. It finally wound up that I HAD to continue my trip with no GPS just until a rest stop where they had charging ports available. Sat there an hour, in a picnic area while I charged up...turned out that was pretty calming. I reached my destination later than I had hoped but overall I was proud I had somehow worked it out without laying on the side of the hwy weeping. Tip: don't drive a vehicle without modern tech.

    Last weekend, I went to TwitchCon. Had a friend drive me (3-4 hour ride), roomed with some people I have known over the internet, for a 4 day weekend. I had an Aspergers Meltdown the first morning at the hotel, and stayed in the hotel room until it passed. What really helped me is the people around me who knew my situation and were absolute dears. Some tips I learned from Invisiblei, is to bring an extra set of clothes, and my own pillow and sheets from home. I learned that having these extra items were an absolute must... as I had undercounted the clothes I needed by one day, so the spare clothes came in handy. I was able to snuggle with my sheets and pillow when I needed some extra comfort. Overall the trip was worth it, and I look forward to doing it again.

    Thanks for the hacks :)
    Sadly I can't look at screens or things whilst on journeys as I get car sick, so I have to do the music thing and I have to look through the front window and lean myself to the side if I'm in the back to look through the front window or sometimes if the scenery isn't too close I can look out the side windows. I get dizzy and disorientated very easily so I have to do slow calm movements or I'll get sick.
    Definitly giving yourself loads of extra time really helps for sure!
    Great video thank you:)

    I have a very different way of coping. I have more of a me vs it ( asd) way of thinking. Not doing something is not an option, if I'm having issues, I do it anyways almost to punish it. This may not the healthiest way, but it's how I survive, I would just rather go through my day no matter how I feel than to let it win, that would bother me the most. But I realize it's hard on the body.

    I still have nightmares (literally, but much worse and pretty twisted!!) about my travel back home from my year of study in Japan... I almost missed my planes because I want to be just on time and I get late very often. I had trouble with my luggage, things I wanted to bring and then again things I bought out there. That travel to Japan, the life in Japan, and the travel back home were so hard for me... I struggled really hard, and now I know that may be because I might have ASD but no way of knowing yet! That was a very good experience but with my problems I wasn't able to enjoy it at its full potential...
    Oh and the same when I had to go to Paris with my car for the first time! And of course my car had to break down! Fortunately, I had friends who helped me out!

    Too bad you won't take the train. Like I indicated in an earlier comment, I'm a railway type of guy. There would be less stress than driving a car because the trip is someone else's problem. Escape driving and the worries of having to deal with one's cars needs - parking and fuel, as well as possible flat t(y)ires, collisions, etc. People don't own cars, cars own people. It is easy to get up on a train and move around. You had mentioned, if I remember, that you did not like the noise or movement of people in a train. In automobile traffic, there is noise and people are moving around. In U.S. passenger rail there are "quiet cars." Would this work for you? The best way is to bring work and be very busy, so you don't think about the trip and things are accomplished.
    As far as dressing, I often wear BFDs or BattleFieldDress pants. The military conducted a lot research into creating clothes which are comfortable, rugged and have substantial pocket room. While they come in camouflage patters, they also come in solids in black, brown, green and grey. There are substantial pockets located on the outsides of the legs which don't interfere with sitting or walking, and close securely by buttoning. One interesting thing about these pants, the fly is buttoned. There aren't zippers on military clothes, because they tend to fail, especially in a dirty environment.

    • @TheAspieWorld
      @TheAspieWorld  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lewis Doherty Well I am not a fan of trains up until now, but I have never been in first class and I will be in a few weeks, so maybe my perceptions will change.

    • @lewisdoherty7621
      @lewisdoherty7621 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may wish to try a rail trip and see how it works. If you find certain people irritating, remember you can move to another area. Keep in mind, numerous people travel this way all of the time and nothing bad happens to them. This also reduces stress that any problems, breakdowns, etcetera are someone else's problems. Your car isn't a potental liability in London or on the road somewhere. You have eliminated that problem. The railway staff has to get you there. They, not you, have to deal with it. There is much less worry. Further, if you don't like to drive, it's not necessary to ask someone to drive you. And like I indicated, focus on doing work on the electronic devices on the train. Travel time shouldn't be wasted time. If you are concentrating on your work, you won't be thinking about things on the trip.

    I have a lovely boyfriend at the other side of the country.. i travel mostly 5 to 6 hours by train since i cant even ride a biks so a car is not for me. Traveling feels like one long nightmare.. the noises, people, smells,train movements. Terrible. Tried everything from sunglasses to large hoodies to put my hands in so ppl dont see my stimming. Nothing really helps. Besides ppl like to point out to me i am acting weird... i almost dont dare to breath. So i always stand most of the time in the part of the train where there are no seats.. makes me even more tired but at least i wont bother ppl. Traveling is a hell for me and my autism. But since i love my boyfriend so much i will keep traveling every weekend and count myself 2 days lost and feeling sick. But at least in my boyfriends arms XD
