    I've used them both, I bought the Canon 800D, because I already had canon lenses. My friend had some Nikon lenses and she bought the Nikon. Both camera's are simply great! It's just what you want. Nikon is a little bit better with low light shooting, but Canon is nicer with filming things, because it is smoother. Love them both and they are great for beginners and also some more experienced photographers. So that's my opninion 😊

    I have used both Canon and Nikon. The image quality is better and sharper on Nikon, but the Canon is easier to use and it is less aggravating. On a daily basis, I chose the Canon because it is user friendly and the dual pixel autofocus is superb. I sacrifice a very small amount of image quality, but at the end of the day the difference is very small. This video review was very fair.

      OK...So for a beginner that will do pics and will do time to time video, what is better to start? Easier to learn, better results, easier to use, and durable....I will have it for a long time.
      The use of the camera will be portraits, landscape, sports (video and pictures), holidays, beach, snow, forests...etc.
      I'm looking for the best allrounder between this two.. To be fair, the decision is between the 5500 and the T7i (the advantages of the 5500 vs 5600 don't seduce me)...so there is a important price difference between them

      I have used it on several places (my wife mostly, she is a jurnalist), beach, snow, downhill (i do some DH), family portraits and she has been the photographer of about 7 weddings, also she has take pictures of nature and charity events.

    The Nikon D5600 seems a bit smaller, more streamlined and ergonomical for a better feel in the hand. On the Technical side, Nikon cameras have a greater dynamic range (picks up more colours) and no low pass filter, resulting in still images which are more detailed and better quality overall. the D5600 also has a slightly larger touch screen and sensor than the Canon 800d. BUT. Canon user interface is more user friendly. And Canon is far better in terms of video due to the dual cross type focus system. Such a conundrum.

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You have very nicely summed up most of the differences. I would add that the T7i is better and easier to do video with- the STM lenses are so smooth and quiet. Nikon does not offer that with the D5600 but since making this video they offer their af-p videos which do a better job of video focus.

      Yes due to how nikon brings out colors, many people recommend the camera as a beginner astrophotography camera. Hoping on getting the camera after I buy myself a nice camcorder. If you want to do film, seriously pick a good camcorder. (Or buy yourself the panasonic gx 85. Takes video in 4k, mirrorless, but is 16 mp instead of 24. Btw that's the only things I know about it. Havent done as much research)

    Great DETAILED tech review on two solid DSLR competitors! I'm FINALLY "graduating" from my Canon SX50 HS (great piece of gear btw). It's funny that I've had my SX50 HS for over 5 years, but it was discovering and recently (less than ONE month) education myself on how to understand and use the Manual or Pro mode features on my Galaxy S9, then learning on my Canon that I've met my equipment's limitations for particular types of shooting goals. A DSLR is the appropriate next purchase and even though I've ALWAYS been a Canon Fan, it's more important to make a future purchase based on my immediate requirements and the gear's potential to accept performance upgrades. With my "week's worth" of researching various sources and your comparison video, my decision to pull the trigger on the near-future purchase of the T7i feels SOLID, for the toe of photography I enjoy doing and looks capable for me to expand into other shooting styles too!
    Manual mode is now my "Go To" on either my S9 or SX50 HS, but I still use Automatic when I want to establish a "settings baseline" for the particular shooting environment I may be in.
    Great job on producing, editing, and sharing this detail-filled, fair-comparison based, informative video! ⚔️☠️⚔️

    If you can't make up your mind on these 2 cameras:
    Having bought my first DSLR (specifically the D5600), I can say one thing. Whenever I shoot stills, I almost never use Live View.
    If you're not looking at shooting video, I think there's no need to turn down the Nikon because of its limited Live View capabilities.

      str pick a canon. Only advantage nikon have( i started off with d5500) is slightly better image quality and unless you shall be doing high end product photography, it is difficult to notice the slightly better image quality( commonly referred to as IQ)
      As for the canon, you get slightly better user experience especially for a beginner.
      You get slightly cheaper native lenses from canon as compared to nikon.
      You get better live view and video autofocus.

    Interesting, before I even knew this video was available, my research of DSLR cameras ground down to these two models … Nikon D5600 & Canon T7i. After agonizing over the two for a weekend, I decided on the Canon T7i because of the auto focus points and the dual pixel sensor. (sorry, not really the identifying names). I also felt the Canon was more user-friendly and operates in two assist modes, one primarily for beginners. I also latched onto the expert opinions that the Canon was for beginners but also included more moderately experienced users, leaving me with a desired growth path once I got used to the camera. After all of the above and maybe a few other "things", but in the interest of some brevity here, I moved to getting the best bang for the buck with a bundle deal somewhere. Oddly, searching end of December 2019, after the holidays, there were a host of deals out there and I settled on a bundle that included 3 kit lenses (holy trinity), two bags, filters, macro & UV, cleaning kit, flash, 64gig high speed SD card & tripod along with the expected accessories to make the camera function …. battery/charger strap etc. At a total of $911 I think I got a good deal and an excellent base on which to start. The bundle really made me feel more comfortable with my decision as less was offered with the Nikon. Frankly, I think I would have been happy with either camera, but I fell on the Canon side of the fence.

    I really like that T7i. It's a good size to fit in my hands, and the focus systems in viewfinder or live look great. The only thing I worry about missing is autofocus micro adjustment. A better hit rate on time limited shots is a major reason I might move up a size from an SL1. If I get three mid-grade zooms and a couple primes, am I likely to miss AFMA?

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You probably won't miss AFMA. And you can always switch to live view which is more accurate and doesn't use AFMA even in the cameras that offer it.

    To be fair, though, most of the tech in the D5600 is 3 generations old. The only real difference between it and the D5300 is that you lose gps, gain touch screen, and your WiFi's infected by SnapBridge. So, it might as well be D5300 vs 800D, and then just get the D5300 because it costs half as much.

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That's true of the Canon too - they don't put much cutting edge technology in these entry-ish level models. The D5300 is certainly a fantastic bargain.

    • @JohnAldred
      @JohnAldred 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh, really? I was always under the impression that Canon had stepped up their game a bit on the T#i models over the last 2-3 generations. I know at the time when I was looking for a camera that could do video with a flippy out LCD, the D5300 had the anti-aliasing filter removed and could do 1080p60, where as the Canon still had its AA filter, and couldn't.
      Those were the two big points for me, but then the video was the whole reason I ended up getting a D5300. I just wish Nikon's higher end bodies had the flippy out LCD like the Canon crop (and now some full frame) bodies do, then I wouldn't have had to buy an extra camera for just one purpose. :)

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Honestly the only thing Canon has going for it is the Dual Pixel AF - that and the general ease of use. And while it is nice that they have DPAF in these lower level models they haven't really done anything else innovating in quite a while :(

      Xe M a camera will give so much more options and better photos if you know how to adjust settings (iso shutter speed etc..). Go from full auto to manual and you will see there is a big difference between smartphones and a dslr and especially in low lights situations.

      Smartphones cameras are never a good match when printing a large photo. Even an old Canon XT, 8 megapixels camera that I own, gives me excellent prints size 20x20 inches. Now, try printing a 18 megapixel photo from a smartphone in the same size and you will see how dissapointed are the results

    I'm looking for a new camera with good auto focus options as I've been asked to film a wedding, and atm I think it's gonna be hard on the Nikon D5300. Considering the Canon, but I know their Codec sucks, and it matters alot when you're a film maker. Same goes for low light and low noise.... I think i'm gonna wait for better offerings. Untill then my Nikon D5300 will have to get the job done.

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using autofocus on the nikon will be rough :( if you can swing it so that the shots are static, no movement out of the plane of focus it will be just fine, get focus, switch to manual and hit record. Or think about renting - Canon 80D or 5D mark IV - sure their codecs are great but the produce decent video and are so easy to use. GH5 is another option.

  • @rologti
    @rologti 6 ปีที่แล้ว

To be fair, the decision is between the 5500 and the T7i (the advantages of the 5500 vs 5600 don't seduce me)...so there is a important price difference between them..

    Some very good points. Especially the lack of exposure preview on Nikons.
    I am leaning toward the Sony SLT A77II. I don't shoot video. The best Canon APS-C sensor is still behind the SLT shaded Sony from 2014. The A6500 is just not enough camera--maybe Sony will put its guts in something more substantial? APS-C DSLRs have mirror/shutter shock. Micro Four-Thirds lenses look very underwhelming/overpriced.

    Just want to point out an important thing. For all who makes comparison Nikon/Canon. If you want to step to FX one day. on Nikon you can get same lens for FX with same mount, so you can start to buy your FX gear step by step still being on DX. On canon you are forced to sell all your gear and buy new lenses and body 'cause the Mount is different and this is much more demanding in term of costs

    Thank you for your videos, I am always fallowing, thx. I have a question, I shoot mostly people with my Canon 6D with 24-105 but I am interested in a lighter smaller body, I have come pretty much to deciding for the Canon SL2 for my travel and more recreational casual photography, it checks most of my boxes with weight, lens selection, touch and flip screen, size, sensor, wifi, dual pixel focus etc. All except for the Focus points just 9 focus old style Canon. The other option that keeps appearing in my radar would be a 77D (skip the t7i) but is bigger, heavier and quite bit more expensive but with a more sophisticated Auto focus. Would you comment or stir me to the right direction? Thank you in advance

    I am so torn. I mainly want to take photos (not interested in video) of cars at car shows and meets - Many of which happen in the evening/night. Having the faster fps in the Canon, with the much larger buffer, would be useful when taking shots of moving vehicles at the racetrack... However, the Nikon has got slightly superior image quality and low-light performance... But it is decidedly older now and I suppose a 55 or 53 hundred would be a better buy? Gah!

      The sensor in the D5600 is better so your images will be sharper, better in low light too. But the sensor is just one piece of the camera and overall the T7i is a more friendly and easier camera to use.

    Who uses live view for taking pics? The focusing sucks in live view.. Also keep an eye on the exposure meter when u use Nikon to get an idea about the exposure and also you can look at the histogram. You will have to use your brain a little bit more and analyse the scene before capturing. Nikon image quality DR are superior. The same sensor in D7200 is being used here and it's awesome. If you are serious about video get a Panasonic GH series. All FX lenses are compatible with the Nikon DX cameras.. So you can one day replace this with a D750 or 850 and can still use all the lenses. That's a big advantage for Nikon.
