    Hey man recently got 2.5 inch lift on my gx with bigger tires, and alignment, wheels rubbing hard not softly but hard, lower control arm bushings are bad shape, want to change out lower control arms at home do I have to get alignment, scared to do it at home if I can’t make it to alignment shop without hurting the tires

    • @funjunkiegarage
      @funjunkiegarage  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      If the bushings are worn badly you'll definitely need an alignment. But you can get it close at home first.
      Not sure how far away from the alignment shop you are but a drive across town won't kill your tires if you're close on alignment.
      Setting toe with a tape measure is easy and gets you in good enough shape to drive a bit.
      Hope this helps.
      I sure appreciate you watching and commenting.

    Do you recommend buying all new bolts and washers and flanges with the LCA? Or could I reuse? I live in Texas. 07 4runner

      @CharlesHaskett-nt2sp 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! I recently did my Tacoma which is really similar to this. Moog has lower control arm bolts that are greasable so you cant prevent future bolts from getting seized.

    The balljoints are removable you do not need to replace the whole control arm unless its bent or to rusted to keep in service.

    • @funjunkiegarage
      @funjunkiegarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for that information.
      I thought they looked like they would come out but Toyota said this is the only way to get them.
      The Lexus owner found the same info as me.
      Can you send me a link to just the ball joint please?
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @@funjunkiegarage absolutely no worries! I was looking to make sure they are removed with a press or not and they are after the c clip is removed. I failed state inspection for balljoints and tie rods wo im doing everything and cv axles while im in there.

      Nice. I also like to change out all the wear items while I have it apart. Best of luck with your inspection. Enjoy your project.

      Do you recommend buying all the nuts and bolts that go with the LCA? I live in Texas and bolts aren’t rusty. Could I reuse?

      Absolutely reuse all that you can.
      I only replace what I can't reuse.

    Hi sr i do have gx 470 2003 i have vibración after 50 mille like shaking . What can it be i put a new set of tire but it dos not solve the problem. Whats your advice. Tank you

    • @funjunkiegarage
      @funjunkiegarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello.
      That's a tough one. A 20 year old vehicle may have a number of things that can cause a vibration.
      If it's only above 50mph it's probably not tires.
      Have you had a 4 wheel alignment?
      Front or rear being out of alignment can cause an issue. Check rear suspension bushings for wear.
      I'd check all the front end parts for wear.
      Specifically the control arm bushings, ball joints and CV axles. Check the driver CV at the differential if it has up and down movement the end bearing is worn. If the CVs are old and never been rebooted and greased one could be stiff, that's hard to check without removing the CV.
      If any bushings are worn, front or rear, that can cause an issue. Also check all u joints in the driveshaft.
      So many things can cause a vibration/shake.
      Best to start checking everything and rule out what's not wrong.
      Best of luck with finding the issue.
      Let me know what you find if you will.

    Hey man I need help!!! My gx needs new lower control arms , the mechanic said there are 2 diff types: one with air suspension & one without, as you know the GX has air suspension, can you put the control arms without the air ? They are cheaper

    • @funjunkiegarage
      @funjunkiegarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I eliminated the air suspension on the one I did.
      He did get the ones for no air ride.
      If you are keeping the air ride, I'd say use the air ride arms. I definitely do not know a lot on the 4th gen chassis. I visually inspected the ones I removed (air ride) against the ones I installed (non air ride) and I didn't notice any difference.
      Sorry I don't know any more about it.
      I do appreciate you watching and commenting.
      And hope you get everything worked out.

      @@funjunkiegarage you are the man brother! Just earned a sub. That’s what my mechanic said that he didn’t notice any difference, I just don’t wanna pay the extra $500 for the air ride, all those fancy air suspension buttons I don’t even use them. I just want the squeaking from the bad bushings in the control arm to go away. Thank you

    I’m new to this but I watched recently a guy lubes those ball joints with a syringe. How effective is that?

    • @funjunkiegarage
      @funjunkiegarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting.
      I have a needle attachment for my grease gun and I have used it to grease many ball joints that have no grease zerk. I feel like it has to do some good.
      I've never taken one apart to investigate, but adding grease has to be good in my opinion.

    A tire shop just told me that my lower control arms need to be replaced on my "new to me" 2003 4Runner 4wd but it isn't critical at this point. They quoted me a price of just below a grand for it.
    Prior to the pandemic, another shop quoted me upper and lower control arms of my Chevy Express van for a price of $700. I imagine it's much higher now thanks to that 40% inflation.

    • @funjunkiegarage
      @funjunkiegarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      If they are using OEM lowers on the 4runner, that's not a bad price. The parts are nearly 600.00. I diagnosed these as bad but not critical and the owner drove on them for a bit longer before I replaced them.
      On the GM product I'm sure the parts are less. Not sure about labor on the GM unit, I'm not familiar with the suspension on those.
      Be prepared to replace the alignment cams, they can get frozen to the bushing. The job isn't terribly hard, just time consuming.
      Best of luck to you.

    What a Pita.... Toyota and Lexus IFS is a horrible design... It should be just a simple solid axle.

    • @funjunkiegarage
      @funjunkiegarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They both have their ups and down. With IFS, you don't have to worry about the death wobble.
