Thanks for stopping by. Recordings at the end of the video are RAW stereo recordings. No EQ or compression. Take a few minutes and look up records that use nashville tuning on the record - great to hear the different records over the years.
I've been doing this for years. D'Addario has strings for this tuning, the set number is EJ38H. I have two sonically similar guitars that I use for doubling. The great thing about a Nashville tuned guitar it that it can stand on it's own when looking for a different sound to add to a production. Just for fun, try a song with a standard guitar, then try it again in Nashville tuning. So many possibilities! I been a subsciber for a long time. Love the channel!

Been doing this for the last decade and it has been a great staple in my productions. I also do the inverse my playing the song at double speed and twice the sample rate. Then load it in my main session without converting to bring it down an octave, but with more clarity than just pitch shifting
I have had one of my acoustics setup tllike this for about a year. Had some ringing and buzzing that i tracked down to the thin strings sitting in the nut where the larger string gauges were. Cut a new nut for the correct string sizes and it plays amazing.
I wanted to try this and Its great sounding. I took an super light set of electric strings, and left the first two regular strings on my accoustic then used the 009 for the high G and then used the B from the electric as the D then the G as the A and finally the D as the E.
I have one of my acoustics strung this way. It is very useful.
Cool. Add a capo and use different fingerings of the same chord voicings for more color.
Thanks for another great video Andrew! I have heard of Nashville tune guitars for a long time, but did not know exactly what that was or how to do it. I am not a guitar player (besides basic songwriting creation), but found this video helpful and educational. I have been building up my gear arsenal, and have been researching guitars and what would be useful to have to have as staple guitars for my studio. My Royer 121 and Neumann KM 184's will be coming today...So excited!
Bought a cheapo Recording King Dirty Thirty and put a Nashville tuning on it. Small condenser mic on it and blended into the mix. Love it!
This was really cool! I’m mostly mixing orchestral stuff so this was foreign to me. I think I also saw a short recently describing a “non-standard” tuning on a 12-string by itself as Nashville. Is that a thing?
Excellent translating stereo image. Now I wanna hear a Mid side recording of the same guitar so you get three tracks and I wanna hear playback in 5.1 and on reverb I wanna hear a TC electronic 6000.
Nice technique. Using an acoustic 12 became boring. So I purchased a Martin size 5 Trez and tune it up either 3 or 5 half steps. This blends nicely and is less boring than a regular 12 string. I recently purchased a Baritone 8 string that I find to be a completely new and cool and really thickens up a mix with pleasant tones. I will give the Nashville tuning a try. Thanks for sharing and providing an example.
I love it!! I've actually thought about doing this for a while now, it's just a great sound. I have an old Japanese made Silvertone acoustic that needs fixed up, I think I'll have to set it up for Nashville now 🤩

Can you explain what you're doing with the panning of each guitar? It looks like you are recording in stereo but it sounds like the standard guitar is pushed pretty far left and nashville to the right. Is that done with panning after are you only using one mic on your set up?
A lot of descriptions I hear/see on Nashville tuning, people talk about layering mono recordings and panning them either side. I'm about to learn how to record acoustic in stereo for the first time and could use some more guidance.

Great idea! Very interessting. You have to be a pretty good guitar player to make it sound like a 12-string timing wise, but the way you did it can clearly make it sounding good in a mix. To me it sounded like 2 guitars. But I'm mixing acoustic guitars for over 30 yrs now.Keep the good things coming!

Do you run into phase issues when recording the acoustic with mic’d spread that far apart? Do you pan them right and left?

I actually keep around both an acoustic and an electric in Nash tuning. It's great for doubling, but sometimes it also gets you through a bit of writer's block by changing the way things sound. Great tools!
Hi Andrew! I came across videos of Nashville tuning quite some time ago and loved it. I had an extra acoustic guitar laying around that I didn't use much, so I decided to turn this one into my "Nashville guitar." I actually use this guitar quite often in my productions! I especially love to use it in choruses to accompany the acoustic guitar with normal tuning. It makes the choruses more exciting and more bombastic!
I did a live recording, and Sweetwater tracked it in 1991, and we overdubbed, mixed, and mastered it at the studio on Bass Rd. I strung my Baby Taylor Nashville and we added it to some of the songs.
I do this all the time. The biggest challenge tho is to get a singer-songwriter to play the part the same. Half the time they struggle to play the same strum pattern, or forget they did a little pinky pull-off on a D chord or something and then it gets a little odd sounding if it's a "naked" song (the acoustics are the main instrument)

Love Nashville tuning. In some ways, if you can track the part easily, it has potential to sound much better than a 12, in that you can eq and match volume exactly how you want to. Something you can’t do with a 12. Another thing to consider is like you mentioned just a Nashville tuned acoustic on its own. I think Bon Iver did this for Holocene. I also remember reading that Nashville combined with standard tuning was used on Traveling Wilbury’s stuff as well as Full Moon Fever by Tom Petty (specifically Free Fallin’). I love these videos, keep them coming!

Love this. Wild Horses is an excellent example of a song using one of the guitars in standard tuning with Nashville strings, one in Open G, and an electric in standard.
I have heard other channels use the term 'nashville' tuning, but I never bothered to google it. now that I know what it is, I just might use it! thanks for the videos
