there is actually a longer starcraft 2 game: ZhuGeLiang vs Lillekanin went on for 4h 10min (won by ZhuGeLiang), it was so long that one of the casters decided to make pancakes during the game. this also happened fairly early during an open qualifier for the world championship series, so the schedule was... quite delayed. though it's also worth mentioning that back then (also when the firecake vs mana was played), the in-game time went faster than real time. so the 4h 10min game was "only" a bit over 3 hours of real time.
Isn’t that still the case today? I only play campaign and on “faster” game speed(in other games, it’s called normal), ingame timer is faster. Did they fix “faster” in mp?
The glitches in the DOTA 2 game remind me of the one braindead strategy in Dead by Daylight where the killer's goal, yes their intended win condition, was to stall for TWO HOURS (or until the survivors made a bad enough mistake to throw you the game, or they gave up and let themselves die) which was when the server discontinued the connection and killed all the survivors. For non-DBD players, a DBD match is typically 10-20 minutes. A long one might be 35
Don't wanna be that guy but It's 1h long after which server kills off all survivors. And u still can do it but after 3 gen nerf it's not quite possible :)

Worst of all, this was ODPixels caster debut in such a big tournament along with his idol Purge. This being his first match to cast not at his home and most of all how long it is he had to make the game entertaining enough......
those particle glitches in the dota 2 game happened as a result of some sort of memory leak or overflow, triggered from how those specific heroes in that game had a lot of spells that generated particle graphics. i doubt anyone had seen that glitch before that game, because matches were never meant to last that long, and even if they last long, its no guarantee the right heroes are picked for the particle bug to occur. This glitch really enhances the aesthetics and legend of that one match
It is not, but its also the only way league games go that long. It doesnt have buybacks or fortify and the buildings are made of paper so once it gets late game everyone gets scared to do anything risky.
This reminds me of a game I casted in a yugioh duel links team league that lasted 4 hours (games usually lasted 1-2 hours) due to a stall deck being meta. I also remember another game lasted that long and the caster fell asleep midway and woke up later lmao

In a recent competitive Gigantic event, one set took 5 hours It was a bo3. A normal match of Gigantic takes 15-25 minutes. 3 matches were played, each taking an hour and a half or longer because both teams refused to go for wounds and every rampage was at full shield.
And now we got FNC vs M80 with the longest CS2 match in pro lasting 8 overtimes. What's funny is that a player from Excel (Boaster) would later join FNATIC in Valorant and would also play one of the longest matches in VCT. It seems that org is always involved with long, played out games.
This reminded me of when I had enough time to spare as a kid to do GT4 endurance challenges, one just took me more than 4 hours to finish and I was "dead" after that long, and it wasn't the biggest race in the game. I can't imagine a pro match lasting that long..

after the first day or so, it’s not like you’d have to actually engage with the game, just monitoring and reacting if the opponent does something, so probably less mentally taxing than what playing video games normally entails
Late game stalemate at Low armies require very little micro now. Because of all the defensive walls or castle. They can sleep just fine. The problem was when they should feel safe sleeping
I watched this happen live. Ruben was able to sleep all he wanted because his castle was set up so it could not be destroyed. His opponent Andre however had to stay alert, because Ruben could kill his castle while Andre was away. I hear Andre slept by the computer with headphones on so he would be woken up by the attack alert sounds of the game when Ruben would attack. So basically Ruben was just enjoying life while this other guy was a prisoner by his PC. Still cracks me up to think about it xD
This is brilliant. Suggestion: make a video of the most kills in shortest time across the same games featured in this video. For example: WorldEdit's world record 37 frags in ~18 rounds vs Echo Fox. I remember the casters going "I'm not even going to get excited unless they kill WorldEdit".

Two japanese BlazBlue players ran a FT100 set. 100 matches is already absurd by itself, but the score went 100-97. It was 12 hours playing, and most pros say that any tournament that runs for longer than 3 hours already fries your mental stack. lol

Ornn was one of my favorites in league when he came out, so I remembered how his old passive worked. A 70 minute game where one of them doesn't have the Ornn upgrade made me as mad as those announcers were.
I mean, these are impressive and all, but I once waited for 12-14 hours for a game of Warcraft 3 to start. From around midnight to 13. I just quite literally didn't feel like going to bed that night and decided the best use of my time was to sit and chat with other people with similar problem until people started getting on again the next day. The game itself only lasted about 20 minutes.

For anyone who doesn’t know, in League of Legends the team SKT has the player who is commonly accepted as one of the best players the game has ever had, Faker. Some people would argue he’s the second best, Dopa being the best, but even Dopa has said Faker is better than him. And for reference with Jin Air, I’ve litterally never heard that team’s name outside of talking about this one match. THAT is how much of a David VS Goliath fight we had going on.
The JAGW and SKT T1 matches weren't even surprising. Teddy hitting 6 items and brute forcing a win with pure mechanics late game was their core gameplan. It was what they did. And it was amazing.

As an upcoming indie developer, I found Swarm Hosts in HOTS egregious that it's not bad game balance, *it's terrible game design.* Free units should not be as powerful or frequent than a Marine or a pair of Zerglings.
No mention of the OWL match that was paused for several hours due to what started with a seeming hardware glitch and cascading into a long series of technical problems trying to resume the match?
I understand that an AoE2 match with resources depleted can result in pretty intense stalemates but this is unrealistic in competitive AoE2, players would just battle for units and eventually one army would come on top. The fact that the chose to not fight is what essentially caused the stalemate.
I think its safe to say that tournaments are cool and all. But it speaks volumes that NO competitive game has gone over 5 hours while solo Q games can become DAYS long. EGO POINTS FOREVER
Playing StarCraft for 3 hours is equivalent to playing CS/MOBAs for like 10h Holy fuck I cannot even fathom keeping up 300+ APM and insane concentration over 200 supply for that long.

I think its safe to say that tournaments are cool and all. But it speaks volumes that NO competitive game has gone over 5 hours while solo Q games can become DAYS long. EGO POINTS FOREVER
