    100 -3 after 30 overs, and Richie Benaud says, "Glamorgan are moving along very nicely here"
    Truly, one day cricket was a different game back then !

      Yes, watching a limited overs game back then was like watching a county championship game for the 1st 40 even 45 overs. Even in the mid 80's I remember going to a John Player League game and the side batting 1st brought up their 50 in the 22nd over!!

      Ah yes, the old "quadruple your score after 30 overs" rule back then.

      if collis had played for glamorgan as well as he did for the Windies in that 79 final Terrance Glamorgan would have won this match comfortably. Alas he had one of those days - dropping a couple of catches and failing with the bat.

      @@thewelshsportnostalgiachan4301 yes, not the best game England played was it. I remember Jim Laker watching Botham (I think) wafting at Joel Garner, to be met with "pathetic shot". Still, I was a Middlesex fan, so enjoyed this result.

      @@thewelshsportnostalgiachan4301it might have helped if they'd scored more than 8 off their last 4 overs. 20 for example might have made it interesting

    King dropping Radley may have cost Glamorgan this match. He must have had nightmares about that. Obviously their batting wasn't good enough but if they'd cleaned up Radley they might just have done it

    • @JP1234815
      @JP1234815 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could also have been because Glamorgan only scored 74 runs in their last 29 overs and lost 6 wickets.

      One hundred and seventy odd never enough 😔 king and ontong threw away their wickets, then dropping Radley, fatal, great day out though, didn't think I'd have to wait till 2000 until we got to another final!!!!, Unlike Middlesex who won some nail biters in the 80's bloody good team

      Brearley always seemed to get out in 3 ways - either really early (first over), get out when he'd seen off the new ball usually for just double figures or get a really 'grafting' 40-50 then lose concentration!!

    So what's a par score off 60 overs then? 350?, 400?
    Aha, this is the 1970's and a one day test match, so 177 for 9 it is!

    • @thewelshsportnostalgiachan4301
      @thewelshsportnostalgiachan4301  ปีที่แล้ว

      in them days par off 60 overs was probably about 240 - 250 Terrance. Glamorgan certainly were well short of that but being put in at 10.30 in the morning meant a very dewy pitch. It seamed a lot too which helped the glamorgan bowler nash.

    Alan Jones the best batsman never to play for England

    • @mizofan
      @mizofan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Fellow Welshman Don Shepherd the best bowler, with most wickets, never to play test cricket, 2,218 at 21.32 average, just as Jones scored most runs without playing a test. Wales should have its own national team- but although we have the England and Wales cricket board, the team is called England, the anthem is England's, the flag is England's and the players are English.

    • @JP1234815
      @JP1234815 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mizofan Jones was unlucky to be playing in the same era as batsmen such as Boycott, Amiss, Edrich, and, to a lesser degree, Luckhurst and Bolus. Jones played against the ROW X1 in 1970 though. Don Shepherd I really feel sorry for. He claimed more wickets than Muralitharan did in his 1st class career. The England selectors picked Trevor Bailey over Don because of his superior batting ability. When you compare Trevor Bailey's bowling stats however Don Shepherd just beats him. 2082 wickets for Bailey in 681 games v 2218 in 668 games.
