To be clear, you're talking about life without parole for the early offenses he was charged with? If so, we'll have to pay to incarcerate a lot more people, and we'll have to build more prisons (unless we stop incarcerating so many nonviolent drug offenders). And when we convict and incarcerate an innocent person, it will be a much bigger mistake.

    • @birdie9240

@@loki2240now why would you think that? Of course I don’t think he should’ve gotten life without for his early offenses. Doesn’t change the fact that he finally ended up murdering a woman after years of assaults. These crimes escalate and they need to start taking that into consideration when sentencing them and monitor these criminals more closely.

@@birdie9240 - So, should he have gotten a significantly harsher sentence at some earlier point. When should monitoring have started, and how would it have prevented or discouraged these encounters with women? Do you think that a good faith attempt at rehabilitation would've helped? Do you have any other ideas that may have helped?
To be clear, I'm not attacking you. I'm looking for positive (or at least better) outcomes. Thank you for your input.

@@birdie9240 - Personally, I think that sex offenders are typically fundamentally different from other offenders who tend to be influenced by situational factors much more. To the extent that any offenders "learn their lesson" in our punishment-focused prison system, our prison system doesn't change sex offenders' sexual desires or behavior. And I don't think rehabilitation would be very effective, either.
We're in a tough situation. But I don't think that we can make significant improvement by continuing to do what we've been doing. And that includes treating sex offenders too much like other offenders. Maybe some other countries have developed more effective approaches.

Would Harvey Weinstein have been able to do what he did if there was a man present? Of course not, and many of those women were WILLING to pay that price for the chance of stardom. Both of the women involved in his trial continued to send him gifts and love letters for YEARS after he assaulted them. If they could choose to remain outside the industry or have sex with distasteful men many women will choose the latter… and they won’t have that opportunity if they’re chaperoned. The women who DON’T bring someone along will get the parts… and that defeats the entire purpose of the process, for both parties.

I was approached by a guy like this in a mall when I was in my 20s but it wasn't in California. He was a 'magazine photographer' and wanted me to come to his hotel for some test shots. When he found that didn't work, he invited me to a restaurant at the mall, just for dinner. That didn't work either. When I finally left the mall, he 'just happened' to drive by and see me. I was quite creeped out by all of this. He flashed a huge wad of hundred dollar bills during our 'talking' and I considered for a brief moment of going to his hotel and robbing him. I don't think it would have been hard to do. But, I'm not a criminal and decided to just get away from him. Luckily, I smelled a rat right off and went with my gut instincts.

Another California-based Serial Killer (this one in the late 70s) used the same M.O. as Victor.
Rodney Alcala pretended to be a photographer for a popular women’s clothing magazine and was always in search of pretty girls who had the potential to model for his magazine. That was the “hook” Alcala used to lure these teenage girls to his apartment for a “photo shoot” to start their modeling portfolio. That is where he would un-alive these poor girls.
Alcala, prior to his capture by law enforcement, actually appeared on an episode of the popular 70’s game show: “The Dating Game” . . . and won! However, the girl who ultimately selected him from a panel of 3 single guys vying for a possible “date” with her, was so creeped out by him during their initial talks following the show that she wisely decided to not go on the date with him.
How Alcala made it on as a contestant on “The Dating Game” was a horrific surprise to many of the show’s fans after Alcala was finally arrested and charged with multiple murders of young ladies in the SoCal area. Apparently, prior to getting on “The Dating Game”, Alcala had just finished serving a couple years in prison for committing a lewd and lascivious act on a minor female. Fans of the popular game show were upset with the show’s producers for not doing more thorough background checks on the men they ultimately select to be contestants on the show. The episode of “The Dating Game” involving Alcala happens to be available here on TH-cam if you simply type, “The Dating Game Killer” or “Rodney Alcala”. It’s an interesting and creepy video that is worth a watch IMO, knowing what we know now about this evil, worthless, psychopathic POS.

Lenient judges need to be looked into. Naive shallow females shouldn't be judged too harshly, but if it wasn't for me, a friend of mine could be living a completely different life to what she's living right now. long story short, she was asked to go to an adress for photos, but I went with her and noticed the lack of furniture, and told them my mom was waiting downstairs and would phone the police if we weren't back at her car in 15 minutes- one lone camera on a tripod in an empty lounge....

Even the real deal industry isn't safe. My youngest son has some acting talent and desire, but there's no way that my wife and I will have him in the big production environment. We try to be aware of what's going on in his little dance studio, but of course there are risks there, too (just less). It's terrible that women and children in particular can't just live their lives without being targeted.

Our culture of celebrity in combination with the entertainment - industrial complex is a kind of sickness, toxic, and not infrequently lethal. Moreover, for all that, today's movies typically suck. The content on television and streaming services is even worse. Occasional hits are the exceptions that prove the rule.

I’m about 99.999% sure that this was one of those scams where you pay a bunch of money for headshots. The reason I’m not 100% sure is because I threw her card away about 5 minutes after I got it.

When I was young I remember some guy at a grocery store with a camera and he said he wanted to take a picture of me and I innocently posed. I never questioned why or felt weird. I never saw him again but now random. Now today would be an entirely different story. Granted it could have been an innocent thing….I really don’t know. As for this dude he just looks weird AF and anyone suggesting outfits and him supplying a necktie is a red danger flag if you ask me.
