I used to be afraid of fire alarms back when I was a kid in school but now I actually kindof think it’s cool and I now work as a fire alarm/security technician
As an electrician I have not had much experience with fire alarms. I found your video extremely helpful and informative. I loved how you speed up the video during the slower parts. I subscribed!
Awesome video! Keep up the great content. Conventional to addressable wiring can be a pain sometimes. Also I found that out myself about the Notifier key can open Fire-Lite devices, but Fire-Lite keys cannot open Notifier devices. That's quite the common flaw on many different panels I have seen.
I think it's weird how we have standard connections for pretty much anything other than fire alarms. USB, 2-pin connectors, 4-pin connectors, I mean even desktop PCs have made everything plug-n-play. But fire systems? Just loose wires you have to plug into exactly the correct spot for them to work correctly. Standardize connections for fire systems, and everything becomes easier. Installing a system, upgrading it, diagnosing / fixing it, the whole shebang. And if you incorporate a low-power SBC (like a Pi Zero) and send it 5V when the alarms are going off, you can have a script send you a notification so you can be there in a heartbeat if the fire department wants you to correct your configuration.
That's a completely different thing USB connections are 5 V fire alarms are 24 and much higher current. Fire alarm systems just like other electrical components are not meant to be something that is commonly removed it needs to be a solid connection as it is life safety
Hey, I like this video, subbed. I was wondering if you touched on polls/queries for the programming the system? I don't work with addressable systems yet so I'm not familiar with them. TIA.
If recent, I suppose it could've come from some sort of temporary setup related to you know, "the disease." Things like testing sites and field hospitals.
Oh! fun fact since you said that if you jiggle the notifier key on fire lite lock, when I got my first fire alarm ( fire lite bg-12l) it actually came with a notifier key.
Where can I learn more about fire alarms in general besides your videos. Please i work for a fire company and would like to learn fast to climb higher.
So I guess i never really understood how these devices are wired. Is it all seperate wires for each device into the SLC, or does it all run off of one wire that is split until the EOL? I’ve wanted to go with an addressable system for the future. Just never really understood the wiring concept.
There are videos out there that explain it way better than I can but it's just one set of wires other two or four depending on if it's a class a class B loop and if it's addressable there is no EOLR
So when you say set of wires, you mean one seperate wire for each device running into the one SLC, right? My brain has a hard time processing some things so I ask for clarification purposes
@@alarmtech5909 no it is a set of two wires that travel around the building to stop at each device and at the end of the line if it's a class A system there are two wires that return back to the panel making it a complete loop
Funny story. I was in school and things were normal for the most part periods 1,2,3,4,5 were normal during lunch the fire alarms went off because we had electricians adding new fire alarms to our school and someone tripped the alarm wire so everyone evacuated and we were out there for like 30 minutes because we had to wait for the fire department to clear the building and we had to find our home room teachers and we missed lunch so we ate it in 7th period and I’m in eighth grade and we had 25 minute classes because of state tests missed 6th period and missed lunch.
Nice work. I would’ve recommended keeping the panel and switching out the devices. Addressable sucks. I’ve had trouble with it A lot whenever I’m out doing stuff.
@@nics-systems-electric ok, I actually have some Kidde pulls that use their own key, but the Simplex Key, EST Key, Fire-Lite Key, and Notifier Key all work at a varying spot in the lock. All of the keys are built very similarly with slight differences.

you can get a knock-out reducer ring, that reduces the 3/4 to 1/2 for the security wire.
