Ohhhhh, this movie. Yes, the suit in this looked great. Yes, Garfield and Stone did their best and had great chemistry together. But the writing was terrible, the editing was terrible, the villains were all underwhelming, the pacing was awful, it was overstuffed with far too much stuff and yet it still felt like there was a lot missing here, and the score is one of Hans Zimmer’s worst (IDK what Pharrell Williams was thinking with the Electro stuff). But most of all, I will never forgive this movie’s big twist: revealing Peter’s dad mixed Peter’s DNA into the radioactive spider, making it so that Peter was basically predetermined to be Spider-Man. That pretty much erased what makes the character so relatable to people and it just pissed me off so much.

I feel like both of these Amazing Spider-Man movies are like the Star Wars prequels, to where even though majority of people don’t really like them, there’s a strong fan base who defend these movies especially compared to the Raimi and MCU films.

This is my favourite Spider-man film and I'm proud to admit it, I never thought it was cramped with loads of villains at all like so many people keep saying, because the rhino only appears in the first 5-10 mins of the beginning which sets up a normal day to day thing for spidey to stop the bad guys and again at the end. I will admit that maybe rhino should have just been in the beginning and the ending should have been just harry talking about the sinister six and the film ends at all the suits shown in Oscorp. I love how Harry has to deal with coming back to NY and reconnecting with Peter, his dad dying and finding out he has Norman's disease and that Peter is the one person that can help him and on top of that Harry having to run Oscorp. I loved Electro thought he was cool deffo looking forward for him coming bk into FFH and Gwen and Peters relationship is just beyond perfect and so upsetting when she dies, I so want an ASM3

One of the things I hated the most in this movie was the subplot about Harry thinking Spider Man’s blood will cure him from his disease. I thought Harry turning on Spider Man because he refused to help him felt forced just to rush his transformation into the Goblin. I never bought that turn.
Also, this movie was written by the same guys who wrote Star Trek Into Darkness (a really bad movie) and one of the dumbest things in that film was Khan having super blood that might cure Kirk. They literally just took that subplot from Into Darkness and put it in this film. Did they really think we will not notice it?

I remember watching Amazing Spider-Man 2 & when that mid-credit teaser scene from X-Men Days of the Future Past happened; I thought we were somehow going to see Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man & Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique in a future movie. Then I was greatly disappointed when I learned that scene was there because of an existing deal between Webb & Fox; in which Fox allowed Webb to direct the film if Sony would promote the X-Men film for free.

For Homecoming just cause its my favourite Spider-Man movie, I will say the one maybe over looked part in regards to Uncle Ben is when Ned first finds out Peter is Spider-Man and talks about how he cant keep it a secret, there is part that I don't hear people mention where Peter talks about how he cant do this to his Aunt after what she has been through, it always got me as the scene that Ben is gone already but they could have done it better I think. I kinda have to agree with Winston. Maybe not in the rankings, but I preferred this movie to the last Garfield one. He felt more natural as the character of Peter Parker. I liked the villains, the action, the suit... this movie is very flawed, but it felt more like a comic book and less like a Marc Webb teen drama. Then again, I'm a Maguire guy. Garfield always seemed to be trying to find the balance of the character and missing the mark half the time. He was better in this film. My old roommate argues with me about it all the time lol.

This episode was a beautiful trainwreck. ^^
The chemistry between the three of you was so off the charts that I didn't even mind you wildly jumping from one topic to another.
As for the movie, I'm super happy Coy brought up the point about Gwen Stacy and the "controversy" of the movie changing one big question that Spider-Man had to live with forever and ever: Did he kill her or not. While I haven't exactly been around when this happened, I was very much aware of the history and how much it affected the character. I totally get that for a more casual fan they feel like Kristian and think "hasn't he gone through enough with Uncle Ben?" and to that I say "yes, but... why in the world did they have to rush through all of this?"
I mean, just have them have a real relationship for 1.5 movies and then in the NEXT movie they can shock the world with the death of Gwen Stacy. They also don't have to rush the Goblin development in this movie as much.
    ---
Totally different topic: Kristian, you mentioned that you're doing the entire editing all by yourself. Are you using a StreamDeck? (or an iPad with some software solution that basically allows you to do the same thing, etc.?)
Because it makes your life SO MUCH easier when you're livestreaming and you need to switch from scene to scene, etc.
Just put it on an Amazon wish list and throw that out in the world, I'm sure a couple of fans will be hardcore enough to buy you a new Christmas present that can help make an even better show. :-)

I’m an Amazing Spider-Man 2 apologist. Especially since the emotional beats slam into you like a freight train in spite of its flaws. Spider-Man is defined by loss and optimism and I think Garfield’s performance reflects that the best out of the 3. Everything with Gwen and Aunt May is perfection while Green Goblin and Mech Suit Guy lol was absolutely awful.
With subsequent viewings, I don’t feel as negatively toward Electro as I first did. Something about him works. I do wish they scrapped the whole thing with his parents. That subplot is unnecessary. The action is crisp. Spider-Man has never looked better. And as much as I love Holland. We didn’t need him. We had a great Spider-Man. But I suppose we’re lucky to have two great Spider-Man’s. Even if one of them is in flawed films. (The Amazing Spider-Man is better than it gets credit for though.)
You 3 are dope. The discourse is great.

56:10 that's so funny. KH is right, there'd be some tension b/c Tomei is fine and looks more like his Garfield had a friend with a hot, older sister 😂.
Personally, if we're talking multiverse, trying to bag your otherworldly, sort of, but not really aunt who looks like Tomei? Okay by me, shoot your web brother.

On the song choice during his montage deal. My opinion, seeming Johnny Marr worked on the score with hanz... If they were to use any song. They should have asked to use please please by the Smiths (which Johnny was famous for being in). I think it was a missed opportunity, and would have fit way way more than that happy type pop song. Because Pete wasn't happy. He was very distraught over his life..

this one is going to be a good conversation I really didn’t like this movie and I also think Sony didn’t know what to do when it came to this movie it has tons of lows and a couple of highs in my opinion I really liked the suit. This movie felt like watching a video game by the way the special effects looked the teased the sinister six then that was it and rhino was completely wasted in this movie I wished that they would’ve made him into a better villain. This movie feels like Spider-Man 3.1 with once again too many villains, kinda dull story and just a mess.

I'll say it I've been joking around about this but I actually think it could work out only 7 years in age difference. Sam Rehmi is directing Doc Strange 2, he works with his friends. He's in the Disney family Uncle Ben= Bruce Campbell. Hail to the king Baby only 7 years age difference between him and Melissa. It could work.

Don’t think they will do Spider-Gwen because then the movie is just ripping off Into The Spider-verse. Which I believe Kevin Feige would be highly against. Also Jon Hamm as Uncle Ben.

So much stuff works in this movie but it's covered in stuff that doesn't work. I still don't get why they didn't have have Osbourne in the first movie or save his evil turn for the third movie .

Coy has been saying this on our rewatches. Interesting theory for sure!!

  • @soulwarrior
    @soulwarrior 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It's very funny how Coy locked in on the "totem" storylines (that by the way were written by J. Michael Straczynski - the creator of Babylon 5 (among a couple other things) ).
I loved those when I read them, partly because they followed the run by Howard Mackie, which was the most atrocious Spider-Man run I've ever read. So everyone welcomed something new... however, years later, I spoke to a hardcore comic book fan (owner of a comic book store) and he said he absolutely hated that storyline. Firstly, it basically invalidated years of Spider-Man development... secondly, almost as soon as JMS was out, they more or less retconned the whole thing and it didn't have any lasting effects on the overall story anyway.
I thought that while I still appreciated these comics when I read them, he had some excellent points and I could understand why people weren't head over heels over it. I'm actually surprised Coy liked them as much as he did because he's usually pretty big on background story and sticking to the core idea of a character.

Reposted from the Rewatch episode 2 -
I hope you reassemble this crew Kristian, to also cover Morbius and Doctor Strange 2, as the crew is very good, the closest we have to the old Heroes show at the moment.
These above two films they look like they all tie in to tell a bigger story.. Much like a Marvel Comics event works, eg Civil War, where you don't have to read everything, but you get a bigger picture if you do. I had thought for a while that Doctor Strange 2 was going to help close the Spider-Man story out.
[Note: for some reason I had it in my head that Tom Holland appears in Doctor Strange 2, that being his last MCU use, but he isn't currently listed on IMDB for that movie. Could have been a spoiler from a Lego set that I got confused on.]
And from the sounds of it Venom 2 fits in, but it doesn't open in my country, New Zealand, until November 25. This might be why there hasn't been a second Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer yet... We can't be the only territory where it hasn't opened. [So we don't get spoilt on what happens during Venom 2...Like I just did off this video....No hard feelings thought, but you may want to put a warning in the description and keep it in mind for future vids.]

Been thinking about this one since Homecoming. What if Uncle Ben in MCU is Tobey? So when Tobey Spider-Man shows up in No Way Home we get the moment where Peter and Aunt May think it’s Ben until he says he’s Spiderman.

  • @jakejones2413

I’ve enjoyed this rewatch series, but I think it would have made for more interesting discussion if you had someone who loves the Tobey movies, it seems like you’re pretty much all on the same page that Andrew is better, but a lot of people (myself included) don’t feel that way. If you had this it would have felt like a more balanced discussion talking about the pros and cons for each portrayal. In a similar way to how you brought Riley on for the Last Jedi rewatch. I just feel like you have been too hard on the Raimi films imo

    • @TheKristianHarloff
      @TheKristianHarloff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The reason for TLJ and Reilly is because everyone really hated that movie and Reilly was there to defend. The Tobey movies are liked by both myself and Winston. I happen to like them a lot. I just find them overrated but certainly recognize how instrumental they were to the genre.
