Loving the fact it's free respec and you can even change full stat builds mid mission if you set them up. Makes exploring weapons so much better.
Got about 8 sets so far depending on my mood and also for cycling through morale levels through the mission.
You start to run out of upgrades materials no?
Actually it is not a full respec since you can't respec your skills/spells, you can only respec your atributes which is quite lame tbh

@Sebastian Bratoiu it's still a respec. I don't truly care about the spells becuase you get enough points to learn all the spells very quickly. By the time you get to the respec, you should have enough points anyways for almost every spell.
Never thought I would main a spear in a Team Ninja game, but the sub-mission Shadow of the Sacred Mountain at the beginning of Part 3 gives you a +5 spear that scales with water well before you start finding any +5 steel. It's such a power spike I almost feel like it's cheating.
Literally just got it and pushed all the way to part 4 without upgrading, it’s pretty nasty
Unparalleled Spear from Zhao Yun is amazing as well.
You are missing out big time if you haven’t used spears in the nioh games. In addition to all the thrusting attacks, you get a variety of ways to bonk enemies over the head, like the wooden cudgel in wo long. Every play through I do in team ninjas recent games involves a spear in some capacity. I’m not too far into wo long yet but im excited about that spear you mentioned.

I got my baihu armor to +5 using the spear.
I've found that the first sword type (straight sabre) given to you is the best. Not in terms of damage or scaling, but moveset. Good forward momentum with tracking, swings wide enough to hit more than one target, and most importantly, fast strikes with almost no commitment on animations, meaning you can parry at any moment.
If you got your parry game proper, you're basically invincible, since you actually parry ANYTHING. Quakes, projectiles, spells (even AoE one's).
This thing is basically easy mode.
Really fall in love with dual halberds. Specially the tornado 🌪 is so much fun
The straight sword has this amazing martial art that treats you as blocking will dealing rapid small hits of damage and you can basically full unga bunga if you get enough spirit defence/spirit cost reduction because you just light attack combo into the martial art as the enemy is attacking and take negligible chip damage(or even healing if using the wood spell to heal on hit). By weaving in light attacks during the enemies downtime you have an almost permanent onslaught of attacks while stilling mostly at neutral spirit gauge, only needing to focus up for deflecting if your spirit gauge starts to dip low. I keep wanting to experiment with other weapons but its so satisfying to just guard and attack at the same time lol
I found a 4 star bronze spear early on and have been using it the whole game so far with my pure fire build. Slashing spear moveset is very solid and fire spells are pretty broken. About halfway through the game now and it has honestly been pretty easy with this build. Cant wait to try some of the legendary fire scaling weapons later on though like Lu Bu's weapon and some of the other swords.

I decided to go fire and earth for my first playthrough with no real thought put into it at the time lol, but dual halberds and a spear is my usual go-to as they scale best with the stats I have. I definitely agree dual halberds can be awkward, and also on top of lacking AoE, most enemies take a step back and you miss attacks, so have to constantly mix in combos like a spirit attack, martial arts or wizardy (I like the blasting flare wizardry for fast aggression). What's even sillier with my current build is earth allows for more carry weight but my fire-based armour is super light so my total weight load is like 11%, completely under-utilising the heavier armour potential.
I'm too invested in this spec at the minute to consider drastic respecs, but I'm definitely looking forward to trying more sets later. Currently in the process of leveling companions to 10 to unlock their gear, and hopefully use them as a baseline for some future builds later when I'm in a more comfortable position.
Hopefully we see some interesting build guides soon, I'm eager to try some things but don't quite know what the end-game gear will look like.

I use the double bronze swords with the little side step power move and it's pretty nasty, hope I'll find a higher level one tho but it still outperforms every other sword I find
What I like about the swords/savers is that there fast enough n the attacking end!
Also we should be able to select any martial arts skills within that certain weapons class, just think about the options.
Will always live and die by the 7nga bunga moveset. Shang liang's hammer gives the best feeling for a strength/ tank build because it hits hard but it is slow so it makes you want to learn the parry and dodge mechanics well.
What I don't understand is a weapon having 3 attribute ratings. Does its damage scale off all 3 if you have points in all 3 of those stats?
Do we get the bonus from all the weapons we carry? for example if i have a dual sword and a saber, do I get the stats of the saber while I'm fighting with the dual swords? Do I get the stats from the bows too?

Some weapon had rare move! I got sword the slash flame wave toward enemies. Now is easy mode, stay far and keep spamming it, max upgraded even more damage.😆
I just found a sword which has shock element and without any spell it does little shock damage on every normal attacks.
It means there are otger weapons with all elements?
Unrivalled Spear is hands down the best spear due to Martial Arts you can spam to eternity.
I'm a huge Team Ninja fan and an even bigger fan of the three kingdoms fantasy scene. I went straight for getting Guan-Yu to sworn brother and his gear. Haven't used anything else since then other than the sword of chaos.
Guan Yu weapon is SO fun. Spamming the martial art lol.
Zhang Bao is so disappointing. Wish I could see his armor and I wish his sword was a bit better :(((

A fully charged Swift Lightning Swords Art attack just destroys every enemy. With upgraded dmg boni on gear it kills a boss in a few hits. For that reason I will never change to any other weapon.

You need to try guan yus weapon you can spam it’s unique sprit attack and wow does it destroy everything I’m hitting 300 damage per hit with only a +4 variant and I’m not stacked into anything other than water as I’m doing a rather underrated/underdog playthrough so scaling isn’t helping that much
I use the staff for bosses. But prefer the hammer for the grunts.

Hey you mentioned that it was puzzling as to why the sabres had no thrusting potential. This is due to the fact that sabres were historically a cavalry weapon designed to slash downwards at opponents on foot. This applies to modern day fencing as well, as sabres are the only sword that you can score points using the sides of the blade with.
There is a staff that scales with earth virtue
I’m a fair bit away from it but once I find it I’m going to be swapping my main weapon to the staff
My secondary weapon is a pole arm since it has a B in earth virtue scaling
Any staff when you upgrade it it'll keep scaling higher in wood

Just find the best weapon class for you, get the best weapon and bonk the enemy until it dies out.
You should point out that long chain martial arts can be a problem because enemies can initiate a red attack as your chain is going. And I'm not sure you can cancel your animation once begun.
Absolutely true. I avoid several martial arts because the animation is so long... marching dragon for one.

Not gonna lie this game is amazing so far… I fell in love with souls games after elden ring.. I’ve purchased multiple but never beat them, now I’m currently playing Bloodborne and this and will finish sekiro afterwards which is also a amazing game

What armor are you using?
If you hold r1 or rb and press O or B you can deflect without using spirit it actually gives you positive spirit. I never block and I'm beating bosses

Cudgel is my favorite weapon but i have yet to find a 3 star or 4 star version.
You can use cups to get the full set of H something. She's a staff main. More wizardry based tho. So you're going to have very light armor. So there's many times I'll die in a hit or 2 but antelope horn can literally throw humans in the air and never get a chance to attack

Straight Saber is in a strange spot due to how mixed focus the option is with the 3 only existing Straight Sabers.
We have....
Dire Tiger (Fire Focus with Wood and Water Sub stats gain) for Second Coming of Zhaohu set which is Melee Martial Art focused. The set gives Martial Arts cost reduce by 1.4%, Haste Buff every Martial Art use, Power Gain buff every fatal attack, and Straight Saber Damage +6.7%. You will get the full set for free by Max Bonding Zhanf Liao and Random Chance obtain pieces from the side quest The Assault on Wuchao and The Fearless Blade. It is still a good stats for Water builds as long you have decent Fire stats.
Ring Pommel Sabre (Wood Focus with Fire and Water Sub Stats gain) which is our starting weapon.
Sirius (Water focus with Fire and Wood Sub stats gain) for Thunderous Raider set that focus on Range weapon combat. The set that gives increase Max Range ammo +2, Auto Refill 2 Ammo every Fatal attack, Return Ammo +6.7% chance, Apply Slow debuff on enemies hit by Range attack, and +13.4% Range Weapon Damage. Full set is given for free by Max Bonding Xiahou Yuan and Random Chance to obtain pieces from The Two Walls Stand Tall side quest.

I’m hesitant on this game because I don’t care for Dynasty Warriors and I despise Nioh. I do like Souls games, but this doesn’t look like it’ll play much like a Souls game.
Think. Sekiro on on roids for the combat. It's very responsive though which is huge for me being spoiled on fromsoft games..... the entire thing revolves around parry/deflecting though so if that's not your jam..... I'd save yourself the grey hairs. I loved sekiro but some of these missions are bonkers... 3 npcs in a room lobbing throwables and gangbanging you're ass in a 3v1 was not my idea of a good "challenge". More just waiting on rngesus to come through and split them up long enough for me to get a damn hit in without being punished for it.... good game though :)
