Of the five songs I've genuinely never heard of two of them. Another two ("He's got the whole world in his hand" and "lord of the dance") I've heard of but never actually sang in assemblies at school. Which leaves only 'Sing Hosannah' as the only one I actually sang in assemblies, and even then only in infants, before overtly Christian songs were largely dropped from assemblies, and even then I don't remember there ever being anything about oil or burning, only 'give me joy in my heart'. The chorus of 'Sing Hossanah' always got messed up in our assemblies, as the 'of kings' isn't sung the second time through the chorus, but the infants in our school always tried to sing it anyway every flipping time. So yeah only really a half-match out of five for my primary school lol (and we didn't sing in assemblies at all at secondary school). I wonder how much variation there was between schools in terms of what was sung in assemblies? Did schools in the 70s to early 90s essentially have free rein with their song choices?
Never sung any happy clappy songs at school, plenty of hymns which some erroneously call these. Huge variation between schools at the time, it came down trying to get people to participate, we sung anything in music classes and choir but assembly none of these
