Note for those who are doing the job with a filter without an arrow. Small tube goes in towards engine. Big tube towards tank line. ❤️

I’m one of those unlucky Jeep owners that has the fuel filter inside the fuel tank.
At least the oil filter isn’t inside the oil pan. So the engineers heads were only 1/2 up their asses.
How stupid that you have to drop the entire fuel tank to change a filter.

A wide mouth funnel with a foot of small diameter hose attached (directed into a tall jug or small gasoline can makes catching that fuel a bit easier. Kind of awkward trying to hold up a bigger pan etc. Works for me!
    Fantastic demo Matt! 👌

Thanks Matt. Getting ready to do this on grandson's Cherokee, and this helped. Definitely want to have the new one ready to plug in before starting to avoid fuel leakage. Showing how to relieve fuel pressure helped too.

just to clear some issues up 97 and up cherokees have the fuel filter built right into the fuel pump module and have no choice but to replace the whole assembly meaning yep you guessed it drop the tank and pray you dont have alot of gas lol once its out take the old one out drain the gas and take the vent hose off and its clip and then use a little bit of oil to lube up the gasket so its easier to put in as it slides in and doesnt roll the gasket inside and heres the tricky part unless its just mine just keep screwing the lock ring it feels like its going on sideways and all sorts of binding but just keep screwing and tap it with a hammer and eventually itll pop on correctly i couldnt find an easier way but once its all together pop your vent hose and clips on pop it all back in and plug everything and reconnect everything and enjoy your new pump for more info check out 97 and up fuel pump videos on youtube there is one where i used and made life so much easier mines just a quick guide

    • @shineything4444

oh also if your fuel pump still works remove the shrader valve from the check port on the fuel rail and jump the relay with a paper clip and get as much gas as you can out trust me it helps mine was shot and took 3 hours to drain but i had time lol so i focused on getting the bolts and everything prepped to be removed once the gas is out and then remove the straps (which WILL rust and be a pita to remove so dont be shocked if you break them) then remove the shield on the fill neck and vent pipes then the connector push the little red tab and pop it off along with the vent hose and fuel line (also be sure to relief the pressure with that check port as mentioned before) and pray to god gas doesnt spray into your face and eyes as it burns quite alot but if you do wash your face off and then after a few minutes of bitching and cursing that you hate every single thing possible that you see and come across and insult your cat low and behold the tank is ready to be removed

Mine has a symbol when I start it, it's a 99. Shop beautiful tune-up, symbol still there. They thought AC compressor might be dragging, shop checked it and it's fine. I figured maybe fuel pump going out?? Swapped it, still have a stumble when I first start it once I put my foot on the gas a teeny bit it runs smooth.
    I'm stumped!!!

      What symbol?
Try cleaning your idle control valve located in your throttle body.
      2-#20 torx screws.
Get some good carb cleaner and clean all the carbon off of the valve being careful of the rubber O-ring.
Also try adjusting your throttle valve cable/easy.
Lots of vids on how to do that.

bleepinjeep 11 mpg. UPDATE. Thanx to these videos by bleepinjeep I did my own tune-up to my own Jeep. Keep in mind that I am not a mechanic, not even close. With the right tools I looked up on the internet I changed the spark plugs, cap, rotor, plug wires, air filter, oil filter, oil change, parts cost less than $90. Checker Auto Parts. I was Quoted 285 bux at a shop!
Auto lite platinum plugs- about $3 each
      New cap- about $20
rotor- about $15 on the high side, can get one for only $6
plug wires- $30-$35 for a good set of Auto lite wires
Plus having the Haynes Manual any particulars was cool.
Jeep jumps at the lights now and my mpg went from 11mpg to 18mpg so far. I just put some lucas products in so i'll update you in a bit.Thanx BJ
