How to test Whites metal detector search Coil resistance MXT ALL Pro 5900/di D-lab electronics

  • Many discussions on the web regarding testing of search coils. What are the right pins. What to expect. Here is a straight forward example using a common ohm meter. This procedure will work on most Whites detectors, example 6000/di 5000, SL Pro, etc. When time allows I will follow up with other brands, such as Garrett.

    Dear sir, Thankyou for this video and all the others. I found the shield wire had come off the 5pin connector. Resoldered and now like new. Dad gave me his coinmaster 6000d. I have auto electrical experience which made it easy. Thanks a million. Cheers, Danny from Melbourne Australia.

    Hey Terry, what would you recommend for a cheap detector to some one that wants to try out this hobby? When I was a kid I thought it was pretty cool to play with a metal detector. Get to find buried tressure.

    Did you ever make a comparison of the mxt vs the 5900 detecting objects in the ground? I couldn't find the video

    Wonderful demo ,thank you a lot...i have the mxt and it keeps buzzing i don't know what could go wrong with it ,any advice please?
    Also you mention not to mixmach coils yet there is metal detectors that work with many coils ! I will appreciate your help

    Very informative and the best detector repair information on the net. Have a like new eagle spectrum with a failing l.c.d screen and cannot find a replacement for it new or used. Great machine that kills me to have to discard but it looks like there are no other alternatives. Would have thought there would be one still available somewhere. Nice vids!

    Hello, I just purchased a 1968 vintage White's Goldmaster S66T. I think it has a bad coil. Where can I find the schematics for these older detectors? I need to know which pins to test on my coil so I can tell if my sensitivity issue is in the coil or the detector. Please help me if possible. Thanks.

    I have a Whites DFX I just bought. Looks never used. The VDI numbers are low. Says 74 Penny Dime when a quarter is passed across coil. I checked the caps. They checked ok.
    I tested the coil transmit and receive ok. But NO SHIELD PIN 3 to ground. I removed the 5 pin connector and pin 3 does not have anything going anywhere. All other coils I have pin 3 is grounded.
    If I bump the coil it reacts erratic also.
    Do you know if the DFX is supposed to have the shield?
    There is a white wire from the control box pin 3 to the circuit board so I would assume it should connect to the shield.

    Greetings . I have a problem that maybe I can some answers on. Whites 6000D series 2, Near brand new looking, acquired from Ebay yesterday ; GEB DISC, either selected with the knob, or with the push button (mode switching), the detector DOES NOT SEND AN AUDIO RESPONSE WHILE IN GEB DISC MODE (speaker/audio jack) DOES NOT RESPOND. IN THIS MODE. The METER RESPONDS BUT THE SOUND DOESN'T... all other modes, the sound works fine .. Any Ideas?

    Hey Terry I have a whites MXT 950 series E detector it comes in a hard shell case with two extra coils one is a Eclipse 5.3 and the other is a Eclipse DD1400.Do to health reasons I cannot use any more.If you you have the need for something like this I would be willing to do a trade for for a amplifier.The detector is about 10 years old and used very little and like new condition.

    I have the Coinmaster 6000 series 2 with the single battery. I can't get the sound to work and the meter acts weak (won't go over half) and bottoms out then jumps back to around half way. When I wave different metals the meter jumps but never over half. I've changed an electrolytic capacitor that was swollen and changed out a integrated circuit that had black burnt pins and still no luck. After watching two of your videos I'm starting to think the coil is bad. But, would the bad coil cause the detectors sound not to work, not even chirp?

    • @d-labelectronics

      Yes, I agree, and the series 2 is really not worth the effort to repair. The price of used machine has fell badly

    Sooooo. Where can a guy purchase a replacement plug end? Better yet, where can I get it done. I have a White's 300 LTD coil that is running overload on my VX3. I tested the plug as you showed and am getting 4.5 ohms between #5 and #4 and nothing between the #5 and housing. Obviously they didn't intend for people to be able to replace the plug themselves.

    Mr Terry Sir, I have a question about the old octal tubes. Isn't there a certain way that type has to be removed ? I think I seen something someone else said saying they have to be moved a certain way before they'll release from the socket. I would really appreciate you clearing up what the other person was referring to thank you Sir for any assistance. This video is great info...👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

    • @d-labelectronics
      @d-labelectronics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Octals will pull straight out, no latching. The Loctals however had a small retaining function on the center locator pin and took a little more force to un seat them. They were normally used in tube car radios in the late 40's. A few home table top radios had them, but that was quickly phased out.

    At last! I found someone who could help determining receive/transmit wire, so we can build our own coils👍
    My question is: how can we get the schematic of the circuit, is it inside the control box??

    • @patprop74
      @patprop74 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want something like the 5900 there is a board you can buy which is an IDX-pro Which i love and actually use as my main detector, link to the board here diydetector.co.uk/store/index.php?id_product=23&id_product_attribute=0&rewrite=idx-pro&controller=product and if go on Geotech forums for advice and BOM for the board, they're a lot of detector circuits you can find in Geotech www.geotech1.com/forums/forum.php

      @patprop74 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW building VLF coils are not for the faint of heart, you need to get the two windings slightly out of phase with one and other and its not something that is easily done, your better off buying a board and putting it together and buying a pre-made coil, Also on amazon look for a book called Inside the metal detector, it is very well written and will give you a better understanding of how different technology type of detectors works

    Any ideas on White Coinmaster GT. Unit was very noisy. Installed new coil problem slightly better. But still seems to get stray signals ?? Hard to believe coil could be bad again with less than 10 hours of use on it. Has White had any problems with intermittent wiring to connectors ?

    • @patprop74
      @patprop74 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does yours have a ground balancing potentiometer? if so you might want to look in to cleaning it up or replacing it, if you don't get the ground balancing right it will not only lose sensitivity but also be noisy,

    Couple things... First, how hard would it be to wind your own coil on one of these? Second, be careful posting too fast to TH-cam! I've figured out the algorithm punishes you if you upload multiple vids within a set period. Just something I've noticed in the past. I'm sure this vid will be super helpful to some detectorists.
