I watched my dad fix radios and black and white TV's in the early 50's. He explained everything as he went along just like you did. Those were magic times and I was wired for life.
Terry, I met you at the Southfield show a few months ago. (I'm in your video.) I too am an avid detectorist. My White's mxt had similar issues. With this video I found the problem. Thanks man!
Good video. I have a Whites Eagle II and needed a part for it. The awesome folks at Whites sent me the part for NO CHARGE! Top notch customer service and parts dept. The battery pack is the same one as I use in mine. Keep her interested, as it can benefit her in later life, and maybe one day it will be her lab!
I've had the same thing happen trying to repair equipment at times. Troubleshoot to a conclusion, reasonably sure I've identified the bad part, go through all the time and effort to replace it, and... only to have the exact same problem as before. Few things more frustrating. Emmi's pretty young, as she gets older I think she'll eventually realize what a golden opportunity she has, and how fortunate to have such a great grandpa and teacher. Be patient, from what I'm experiencing with my own 10 year old great nephew, it takes time, he seems to be kind of surrounded and absorbed right now with his age specific influences and entertainment coming at him from all directions, and tends to get bored quickly with things that fall outside of that.
A friend of Mine was the Engineer for Whites Metal Detector came up with the discriminator Circuit for the Whites Metal detectors his name is William Lahr. We used to go gold panning together with a dredge he had made and the whites metal detector when we were sniping cracks for gold. A very sold unit.
OMG Terry, look how much Emi has grown ; right before our eyes. I tell you brother, one day she is going watch these videos and have fond memories of time with Grandpa. Poor Emi looks tired, god bless her. I love watching these videos. BTW Terry, I bought one of those hair clippers and used it myself and it works great !! Thanks for the tip!!! One day you should have Marsha host a video and calls it MLab and you can bring her wine... Role reversal :) Love it. GREAT JOB !!!!
Hey Terry, do treasure your time with Emi. She's an exceptional young lady. Our daughter, Sarah (N9YWQ) & I did the same thing 25 years ago & she got her Tech Plus at that time. Time passes by way too fast. Thankfully, she's still maintained her interest & recently got her General. I hope Emi will do the same.
Hi D-Lab, great videos and Lab setup. Thank you for posting. Would you happen to know of a replacement switch for the Mode Selector Switch on a Whites CoinMaster 6000, or any information that would help me find a replacement switch on arrow/ digikey / mouser etc...? I'ld like to replace a broken mode selector switch for a friend's kid.
Hi there D-Lab, firstly thank you for your videos, I've come into possession of a 'Sears' G.E.B Tri-discriminator model 321-59634, which I believe is a Whites 5000D Series 2. I am reasonably competent in electronics and detecting so bought this hoping I could troubleshoot and repair it. From your earlier video regarding Whites coil troubleshooting I am certain the coil is stuffed, I'm getting continuity on 1-2 but between nothing to nothing else. Reaching out for your help please, I was wondering if you had a video on how to reseat the 5 pin slim line connector as I've been unable to find anyone or anything else close to your level of knowledge or helpfulness online. There's some corrosion around the strain relief from the cable and I suspect I need to re-terminate the connector. Would highly appreciate any help you're able to offer, I love detecting and am hoping to give my other detector to my kids and I utilise this one so we may go detecting together. Thank you kindly.
Off topic but it's important. You Johnson guys out there are crazy! I had an eye on a Viking some months ago, not the II, and it went unsold because he wanted over $550. So he relisted it of course. I was waiting to see if reality might sink in. Nope! He upped the price. I couldn't belive it. Last I saw it was almost a grand, with no lookers. So I bought my Heathkit. lol. Heck, all I wanna do is toss out a quick 'n8nk' after the 30 minute long CQs on 80 AM. ... he slides the clamp on the neck of his chrome lollypop up.. setting the brick on the key as it were.. and says clearly into the blindingly shiny lollypop head "cq" - then he turns inward, and ponders the meaning of life. Some minutes later he issues another introspective "cq" then wanders into the kitchen to make his morning pot of joe. Fresh steaming cup in hand 30 minutes later, I hear footsteps... and then comes forth a relaxed, slowly ennunciated "cq... cq... cq... this is joe-dirt calling cq... joe-dirt, mid America calling cq... over and listening for any call" :) 73!
I had to return the selenium speaker. Very bad speaker, it has cone like elephant's ear, no details, no bass, very low sensitivity, even massive magnet can´t help. I can´t believe JBL produce such bad speaker. Thanks for the video, your friend is completely deaf.
I don't think she's got 'the bug' yet. It's not until kids get 'the bug' that they really get right into electronics and are hungry and attentive to learn as much as they can. Girls tend to get it less than boys do.
That’s funny when you mention the smoke test. I thought of “Brad the Guitaroligest” keep replacing things and burning things until it’s all replaced and fixed. Lol 😂. Great videos I’ve learned a lot over the years from your videos.

Great detector back in the day. Still a highly sought after one today. Good job getting it going again.
So awesome of you to teach the younger generations .............
Emmy's into it, if she wasn't she'd be outta there! Pretty neat to see. Keep it going Terry!

Cool deal man! Glad to have been of assistance!
Great job!!! Terry and Emy , you never surrender , greetings from Santiago chile !!!
He's got an extraordinary amount of knowledge.

Terry, you did the right thing in changing the pair of capacitors, "changes are it would have come back to the shop".
Circus Board repair by Grandpa Terry.... Good to see Emi in the shop! Nice work you two.
Hi Bob!
Emi is a great helper!
I call that a Polish Watt Meter. It's a handy piece of test equipment, especially when you use someone elses finger.
Hi I have the same issue with that orange cap but mine is destroyed, what value capacitor is it? Thanks
Hello? would you mind helping out please.
Great job Terry ... or should we say Mr. Fixit! That was cool, thank you!
Mmm..,a nice lesson.♥👍
I love that look Emi gave the camera.

Emi, learn as much as you can from grandpa Terry and someday, when you're older, you'll look back with a smile on your face. Cherish every moment.
My old man gave me an ohmmeter when I was 10 years old and he taught me how to use it. That was 50 years ago.
I have a White's mxt that needs a off/gain potentiometer. Would you have information on a part number or where I could get a replacement?
She is an excellent sport!
Minelab Sovereign xs . No go. Where to begin ? I see no fuses.
Do you know how to convert a bad Whites XLT screen to the new the new LED replacement?
respect and one love from Greece

Can i have the schematic for 5900di sl....?
How much you pay your apprentice?
I have been watching you and granddaughter fixing a whites metal detector. How can I send you mine. No power possible same reason.
how much you charge fx whites detectors?
Thinking juice. I like that.
Home schooling the D-lab way. Hope Emi gets an "A"!
Still cuter than a bugs ear! :) Nice job Emi and Terry. "Smoke Test!" was on VWestlife I think or was it uxwbill.
I have 3 granddaughters and 1 grandson I can’t wait until they’re old enough for grandpa to teach them radio and guitar
Clearly that thinking juice helps a lot
Terry do you think Em will ever get her Ham ticket?
Your granddaughter is adorable.
Emi's really getting taller.
I think Emi was ready to grab the clipper again...
HEAVY METAL GUITAR DETECTOR
Terry it was just an " open fuse " haha!
Maravilha.

Need your address in case my detector takes a crap!
Ty
Will she be taking over D-Lab one day?
I wouldn't bet on it.
The lesson is to get someone else to provide the Polish Watt Meter.
Emmy looks pretty bored she is at home all the day I guess 😂👴👴
poor Emi yawns...
