    Dat looks cool. How was the ride quality?

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not bad at all and I much prefer it over the stock ride; I would say it actually improved the ride while also giving me much flatter and stickier cornering. It rides a hell of a lot smoother than our stock WRX and corners almost as good...

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well mine corners almost as fast as our WRX, so probably. But tire choice is important too. I have General Gmaxx AS-05's on mine now, best tire for the price. The taller wheels allow for a lower profile tire which doesn't flex and roll under the rim as much = better handling.

    • @dustinjackson9502
      @dustinjackson9502 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuckeyeBallistics thanks for the info! My only issue with my Rio is cornering so I'll look into getting new wheels and maybe coilovers

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dustinjackson9502 Evilla makes some parts for the Rio like stiffer roll bars and strut bars and shit that will help also. But I'm fine with how mine handles on the 17's so I don't have any of that stuff, though it would improve it even further. It may be cheaper to just do that instead of buying new wheels and tires if you like the ones you have...

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Extra weight does affect handling, but so does the height of the sidewall on the tire. When you go up in wheel diameter, the sidewall gets shorter and thus improves handling. If you buy the right wheel/tire combo, you can go larger *and* lighter...

  • @jsanchezp

    Just bought a 2021 kia rio hatchback S model. It's already a stiff ride with 15"..wouldn't 17" make it a much more rough ride? Also, is the aluminum really just as strong as steel?

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, 17's would make it ride rougher- they must have stiffened up the suspension on the newer ones. The wheels are aluminum "alloy," and alloys are stronger than non alloy metals. In many cases, aluminum alloy wheels are stronger than steel- depends on manufacturer and design.

    • @ninaj84
      @ninaj84 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuckeyeBallistics Actually, the 15" are pretty decent, but obviously you can feel the road more because it's a cheap car. Does moving the wheel size up mess up the speedomoter reading? And do you have to adjust the suspension to fit the new wheel size? I'd like to upgrade to a larger wheel at some point, too.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't have to change or adjust anything on mine. I put the same size wheels and tires that the Rio SX of my generation had, so I knew it would fit without any issues (17x7 wheels, 205/45/17 tires). It doesn't affect the speedometer because the tire is the same height. Now if your combo has a tire that is taller or shorter than original, then yeah that's going to affect the speedo. You can google graphs that will show you how tall any tire is by it's size to verify what you pick is the same height...

      They are 17x7. How wide you can go depends on the offset. I can't tell you if a 7.5 or 8 will fit, but any place that sells them should be able to. Even if you just search on Tire Rack or Discount Tire, the website will show you what fits. You'd have to go with some crazy offset to get a 8 wide to fit I'd think, and it'll just slow the car down.

      It felt a smidge slower, but only just barely. But I had issues with the original tires and switched to General gmax as-05's which were lighter, and I seemed to gain most of the minor acceleration loss back. What I did feel though was much better handling and far less roll in the corners. And with my cold air intake and pulleys, even with the larger wheels and tires, it's much quicker than stock. Your speedometer would be off slightly as that size would have a slightly larger overall diameter, and with it being wider it might rub too depending on the wheel offset. 205 is all you need on a 2500lb car, plenty of grip/footprint. If you're not satisfied with the handling of 205-45-17 on this car, then you need a better tire- not a different size. Oh also there are far more 205 tires to chose from than 215, and they are more affordable as well...
