    I remember back in the day when I had sister locks about 13 years ago I lost my job and couldn't afford retightenings for a few months. I went back and my loctician would not continue to retighten my hair. Because she said I could have compromised the structure of my hair. Back then they would not let you know what your rotation was you couldn't even see the tool they were using. So I read an article about how sisterlocs sued nappylocs and figured hey if their process it is close enough for sisterlocks to sue them then I'm going to check out nappy locs. I bought the book got the tool and begin retightening on my locks myself

      Sisterlocks is such a scam. The tool is what’s patented. The method of interlocking is not new and it’s ridiculous they tried to monopolize it

    • @AmbivertsBeLike

      @@whitus004 it's funny how indignant they are about people "copying" their patent...straight Christopher Columbusing a style that has already existed. Also, though...very smart to try it.

    I’ve had my sisterlocks for 7.5 years, and I’ve always had someone else do mine so I wouldn’t have to. However, I will be studying abroad this August in Spain for a year and decided that it’s probably a good time to learn/do them myself. I found this video very helpful, ordered the nappy loc tool, and I tried retightening it myself for the first time this week. It took me 3 days to do but that was with interruptions (work, interviews, family visiting). They turned out great and I was very proud of myself! I also got lots of compliments and was excited when someone asked, “Who did your hair?” And I could respond, “Me💁🏾‍♀️”😂 thank you, Imani!

I found one but he had to travel and my hair would need retying before his return. So I ordered a kit with several sizes of retying tools and I began watching TH-cam videos. Yours has been very helpful. The good thing about my original loctitian is that she made sure I knew my rotation in the event that I needed to engage someone else. And I’m grateful for that. THANK YOU SO MUCH, YOU ARE JUST ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Are you a instructor, you explain things so well. And I took their class back in 2008. You explain it better than them. I'm about to attempt to do my own for the first time, but first I'm ordering this tool. The one they gave us in the class is white and plastic, and would make it hard for me to do on my own with MS. I'm gonna have your video playing in the background while I'm going it. Thanks again. And I'm a subscriber now!🤞🏽

    • @ImaniGoodridge
      @ImaniGoodridge  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Lana Walton Hinds Thanks! And frizz is part of the locking process! There is no way to avoid “frizz”. That is just the process of your hair locking. My sisterlocks are mature. Which is why they don’t look frizzy! Your locks will condense overtime and lose the frizzy look. 😊

      You don't need to know what direction was your last from your last retightening. You just need to always start at the starting point of the rotation :)

    I normally don't comment on TH-cam but this is a great video, I appreciate your help. I just decided to do sister locks so my registered sisterlock titian is going to install for me however I will abroad for few years and where I am going there is not certified sister lock so I had asked her to help me or show me how to retigthen but she said she can not until six months in but by then I will be gone she just told me my style will be 3 which I don't know what that means, but the fact that you sacrificed your time to help means a lot God bless you for sharing very few people shade this information and I understand they are trying to protect the brand. Two questions for you my hair is 3 inches I heard that some people start twist first on sister lock
    2) what is style 3 since you showed 4 point, is the means 3 rotation?
    Thanks again ❤️

    I can get an appointment but I've reminded myself I got this style because its beautiful and can be self-maintained. A colleague died from Covid so I've decided it's time to stop with the luxury, expense, long drive and risk to life when I am physical able to do this...and I had a shoulder dislocation last year so couldn't attempt this or even get dressed by myself...sooooo also wish me luck...I will miss 2 hours pampering of course, I'll let you know how long it takes me ladies 😬

    • @ImaniGoodridge
      @ImaniGoodridge  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My condolences regarding your colleague. And I completely resonate with wanting the ability to maintain my own hair especially in times like this. Similar to you, I separated my shoulder awhile back so I understand the struggle! To answer your question about how long it takes me to retighten my 738 sisterlocks - about 6 hours if I don’t let it grow out too densely. That’s about every 6 weeks. Do let us know how it goes. Wishing you luck! Just go slow and be patient the first couple of times 🤗

    • @sherrytee2962
      @sherrytee2962 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm back! Thanks for the encouragement. So I tried retightening and I was sooooo slow, re that dislocation I mentioned and my lack of correct self maintenance, some of my locks had to be combined due to weak locks...Anyway, 4 Consultants on, each one getting closer to home, my current Consultant is leaving the Country 😢 I'm just not able to do search or drive so reconsidering retightening myself again.
      Last time it was 20hours to get through about 2/3 of my hair, so hopefully I can speed up dramatically. I'll be starting about 4 weeks before its due just in case.( mine are on an 7-8 week schedule as my hair doesn't grown particularly quickly? All of my Consultants were taking 2 to 2.5 hours to complete for context at £70, all were lovely and fast).
      Again, I'll hopefully be back with an update

      Dayanah Ma'ahzhnah Yahsharalah Either pull them apart gently (it’ll make a little ripping noise; don’t be alarmed) or cut the hair that joins them together with tiny scissors (the kind you’d use to cut sewing thread)!

    How do you know which direction you ended with during your last retightening? I want to avoid going in the same direction twice but it seems impossible to always know.

    • @ImaniGoodridge
      @ImaniGoodridge  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      A full rotations end at the 4th entry point. lf you can't do a full rotation, end by entering at either 1st ,3,rd or 4th entry point. Essentially just don't end by pulling the hair through the 2nd entry way where the base of your loc will have it sticking up. For example, if you just entered at 2 and only have enough hair to enter one more time, enter at 4 or 3. If you need a visual, look at 9:07 where I explain these entry points. Your retightenings should leave your locs tightened in the same direction (down). People may vary that if the want a part at the top of their head and end by going through entry points 1 and 3 to give a parted look. Everywhere else end at 4. Never re-enter the same entry. If you just did 4, enter at 1 and just pull through as close to a vertical downward motion as possible. It's simple! Try not to overthink it :)

    • @cherelle469
      @cherelle469 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can feel the opening with your two fingers. Rub your index finger and thumb together between the new growth and your loc and you'll feel it. Practice will make it easier to tell as time goes on
