I'm surprised that I missed this when it was originally released. I favor Breton characters when I play Skyrim and make them a "throwback", the line originally descended from a male Nede and Female Direnni. The physical appearance is mostly human, but with slanted eyes and distinctly pointed ears. I call this creation a Breton Throwback, as the distinct appearance only comes every one to three thousand years. I also make my character a battlemage. As I said earlier, I don't know how I missed this 4 years ago. Keep the lore coming!

I have played Skyrim for 3 years and never finished the main story or much at all besides exploring. Finally this year I've made my character based on me. And I went with breton for the first time ever. And omg after 5 months I find this. This just made my character origins much more wholesome.

Here's how to tell (with examples)
Nords have Scandanavian/German sounding names (like Ralof or Balgruuf)
Imperials have Romanized/Latin sounding names (Silas Vesuius or Vittoria Vici)
Bretons usually have French/British sounding names. (Amaund Motierre or Delvin Mallory)

I definitely enjoy videos like this but once you're done maybe consider complete guides to the capital cities in each area. That'd be really cool.
Especially towns in Morrowind and Oblivion.
This channel has become my elder scrolls encyclopedia by now. Yet I still feel there's so much more to cover. Which is ridiculous and amazing of old Bethesda.
I'd personally love more Morrowind lore video

    Two-handed Conjuration Breton Battlemage FTW
First time playing Skyrim seriously (not counting the 9 hours I played back in 2013 before giving up due to the complexity of the gameplay and lore) and loving the playstyle so far. Absolutely love being able to conjure up Atronachs and fallen enemies to be my companions. I use ranged companions and summons, then I act as tank. So good.

I'm a Breton in real life, my grandpa was a Guillou. In our world Bretons are the celtic people from Brittany. Bretons don't consider themselves French, to call them that would be insulting as they are a proud people overlooked by most of France as being petty and ignorant when in reality they proudly hold onto their culture and will not back down from it or become a centralized state like Paris. Bretons originate from the Celtic Britons migrating from England to Brittany after the Romans pushed their way in. Although they left their ancestral lands they brought their celtic culture with them and developed it further. They fought fiercely for their new home in Medieval times withstanding both Norman and Viking conquest. When their lands seemed to be forfeit they came back from the brink and fought their way back to being the ruling class, restoring their monarchs and ousting their enemies. Their language comes from Cornish and Welsh. I feel like the developers behind TES lore honored the resilience of our people and paid attention to our history, not just using the name and thinking people wouldn't make the connection. Bevet Breizh! (Long live Brittany)

I made a Skyrim group of an ugly disowned albino Orc mage with a Nord name, a skilled dark elf sorcerer with his best bud Ralis Sedarys, and a small Breton girl with sword spells.
How they got to Helgen: Cecil Pale-Skin (Orc) was cast from his home to go on his own and fought imperial guards after they called him "disgusting", Nightwatch (Dark Elf) was (and still is) a mercenary and he attempted to sell a poison to some imperial guards saying it was a Drought of Strength (Ralis Sedarys was pinching his nose and shaking his head the entire time), and Jewel stole a goat for her Riekling friend, Steel.

Thanks for this. It proves a point. Oh the arguments, folks saying all the mixed races and half races (modded of course) are Bretons. They are not. In the extreme, no Breton would accept a half Khajiit half Argonian as a Breton (I remember that mod). In the not so extreme they would not accept a person with a Redguard mother and Dunmer father as a Breton either.

I really hope they double down on the whole battlemage knight on them more, give their footmen padded jackets and gambesons,go full 14th-15th century on them and make them badass knights. Sort of like how highrock was kind of in Daggerfall just.. better. I personally thought the Total War Elder Scrolls mod did them the best, just this regular Medieval European faction with wizards and stuff in a land filled with romans, fantasy vikings, magic pirates, tall yellow people etc.
What's that? Your battle mages are about to cast a spell? I can't hear you over my column of heavily armored knights riding towards you.

My favourite races have always been Bretons and argonians, as a main Breton player it’s sad there’s not much outstanding Bretons other than the forsworn which is a great story line just wish there was significant difference, like none of the Bretons seem to mention or care that they’re Bretons other than that asshole chef haha, so much potential for a build though, I couldn’t decide which civil war side to join but I learned that in the markarth incident ulfric executed and tortured lots of Bretons who just happened to live in markarth so I’m going for like a vengeance build

  • @shawnberry760

I knew it would be drew to talk about the Bretons! My favorite race by far!!!!!
Quick questions though. What if the Breton race was created by magic or rituals? That would explain why there are no half elf kids. Second, what if their desire to be left to a quiet life and magic resistance are due to being abused by the direnni? Some people seek a quiet or easy life after a traumatic event. Also, high elves aren’t known for magic resistance so it seems strange that Bretons have it.
Just a thought. Have a great day!
    Bretons forever!

Off topic to this video but if you guess ever did go back to Fallout 4 for build videos, I’d suggest using the Start Me Up mod (I think that’s its name). It’s an alternate start mod that allows you to start the game without following the normal backstory, as well as reintroducing traits, allowing more roleplaying freedom for you’re awesome builds. I always enjoy watching your build videos for both Skyrim and Fallout, and would love to see you guys come up with some builds for Fallout 4 with this mod, as it will hopefully help with making more awesome and unique backstories.

So quick question: I am roleplaying a Breton druid at the moment, and I’m wondering what kind of relationship he would have with the Reachfolk? They seem to respect nature, but they worship daedra like Molag Bal, etc. which seems very different from Y’ffre’s “True Way” that the druids follow - to be clear, I’m not talking about the Wyrd, but rather the other sect of city-dwelling druids.
