    Absolutely stunning! I'm very inspired. I'm a senior woman who customizes Calico Critters. Not in the same league by any means but I love making things. Thank you for your amazing, gorgeous hard work!

    You should build dioramas like this for historical museums. It is that good. :)

    • @LandvaettrsLair

      Would love too! The models would have to be far more historically accurate but I could acheive that effectively with proper researches and provided documentation. Unfortunately I lack the time and storage space to build such dioramas (museaum dioramas tend to be on the big side).

    It is so good to see you back on here making things! I hope that all has been well and good for you and your daughter! This diorama is awesome dude! The inside of your longhouse really looks warm and cozy! The outside looks like the kind of fenced-in yard I wish that I had! I also like your short longboat and enjoyed the video that you did when you built it! I hope that this means we can expect more from you in the future!In the words of Tigger from Winnie The Pooh "TTFN! Ta ta for now!"

      Thank you for your appreciative feedback! Soon as I'll have time I'll get back to the next stage of this diorama, sitting on top of a shelf atm. For now I'm finishing a gamification project for my kid (index cards), you can follow me on instagram if you want updates on what I'm up to on a more regular basis. When I'm done i intend to get back to the followup this big project you saw here. And yeah I'll defenetly make another vid then. Might be in a while though. Cheers!

    Congrats on the birth of your child. Children are the best thing to ever happen to a man, they are incredible, so smart, so cute so to die for. I envy you on your up coming journey. Now this is the BEST WAY I have seen for Ivy leaves.(You can make fine foliage with paint, foam, and the secret ingredient, an old fashioned, bench mounted mince meater. I have one from The Socialist Republic of Finland. (PVA glue, can be tinted for water or glass, a very old school trick) Been playing D@D since 1978, and its all "theatre of the mind" ( It was ALL pure imagination back then) and unstructured. The players dictate the story, not the DM or module. Not that I didn't/don't use story, but that is more for a single adventure. It may be old school, but , I find 5th edition to be way overpowered for characters. It takes on average 2 to 3 years playing every week ( 3 or 4 sessions a week) for a character to reach 14th level, with the original AD&D the players really have a relationship with their characters.

    • @LandvaettrsLair
      @LandvaettrsLair  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, yeah she's awesome and I live to see her experiment and thrive.
      For flocking on a smaller scale I usually use teinted sawdust nowadays, but you can't beat birch catkins to replicate the distinct shape of ivy leaves.
      Exclusively relying on theater of the mind is best for storytelling, unessessary decor usually hinders a dynamic narration. As a craftsman I enjoy building decor and terrain, also it can prove paramount to have visual aid during complex encounters, a visual sense of space is sometimes really necessary. Totally agreeing with you concerning DnD, I like it but I usually favor other more fast paced systems. Suits my style, I want the story to unravel not spend 2h on a few rounds of combat by spending an eternity checking and adding up modifiers.

    Absolutely amazing how long did all this take ? I'm guessing it depends on how many hours you spend per day. I love this period in history and living in England I read lots of the Viking/Anglo Saxons 400-1066 era. Are you still producing videos ? Great work and thank you for taking the time to do it.

    • @LandvaettrsLair
      @LandvaettrsLair  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve and thanks for your positive feedback. Can't say for sure how many hours but a lot for sure counting in tens of hours for sure probably over hundred...even if I did some planning most of it was experimenting and trying to figure it out on the go, so it also took time to reflect on issues to find solutions! Project took over 6 months to complete but ive mostly been crafting on my free time at night... Not able to produce quality content for TH-cam on a regular basis, but I have a few vids in the oven and the channel is defenetly not dead, just on the slow side! You'll find more regular updates on Instagram. Cheers!

    Awesome work, was wondering what happened with your modibot figure did you make any stop motion for the nieve viking boy and is it a good prototype to build on or did it break like the wire prototype

    • @LandvaettrsLair
      @LandvaettrsLair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Modibot should do fine if its the right scale for you puppet. Lego puppet didnt get as much use animating as expected but defenetly didn't break. Ball and joints is always preferable over wire as far as durability is concerned.

    When you said big tree I was thinking of the world tree. This build with the cave under it made me think of Beowulf and Grendal. Could see him and his men in the great long house waiting for the monster to show itself.
    Could watch it turn and see new things each time. It has everything a diorama should to capture your imagination and transport you into this incredible land.
