How to Shorten Honda CRF450 Showa Forks

- Suspension is the biggest upgrade you can give to the vintage 3 wheelers. These trikes are lot of fun, but even more fun with modern adjustable suspension. Modern 450 forks need to be shortened though and some can't be. Showa crf450 00-10 are perfect for shortening.

Thanks for an awesome video. Could you explain why the springs length were cut down only 4" instead of 5 1/4"?
I'm planning to have my showa forks 2" shortened, how much spring length should I cut off?
you need to fold the cut end flat with the spring as shown in the video, this will eat up roughly 3/4-1 inch leaving about 1/2 preload. if you cut it ar 5 then folded the end you'd have.a floppy fork at full extension, the 1/2 inch preload keeps things tight and in place at full extension.
Hiya! Thanks for the video! Wondering, do you offer this as a service? I have fast ace akx01rc forks that I need to shorten a couple inches, and though I could try this myself, it would be a great help to have it done by someone with more skill.

I understand, I’ve heard the internals are copies of Showa open bath forks found on early 2000s cr125/cr250, but that’s all Greek to me - I read “Showa” and thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask :)
Do you know if the Showa’s from an ‘04 crf450r are the same as the ‘06 in your video. I’m trying to lower them 3” for a mad max-ish street conversion project.
00-09/10 are basically all the same with minor differences that don’t affect shortening
What Exact aluminum tubing is that? I heard you say .5". what is the full dimensions if you don't mind.
6061 1/2” ID 1/8” wall , can use 3/16 wall also but 1/8 is more common. Needs to have the 1/2” id. Od isn’t as critical cause there’s a ton of room in the shaft for the sleeve.

@@robertrogoff8289 we’re sending it off triples and 100 foot tables on the Mx track.. I have a lot more confidence in the modern forks vs the old conventional ones.
