My prompter was working fine until they had the latest software upgrade ( I was using the Beta version, and it was fine). However, after the upgrade, I couldn't make it work at all! That is until I found your video! Thank you...all your tips worked like magic! 🥰... Liked and subscribed!
You are the QUEEN!!!!!!! I am running MacOS 11.7.10 and I had to manually install DisplayLink and it works. Thank you! Time to use it for my latest video.
I am also running Big Sur 11.7.10 on a late 2014 , 27 inch 5K Retina. Display Link doesn't want to install because it says it needs Monterey(macOS 12) or newer to instal and when I go to apple it says I can't install Monterey because my model is late 2014 and Monterey is only installed on late 2015 and newer. so I'm basically fucked. How did you do it? I think I have no choice but to return the prompter.
Thank you SO much! I restarted my computer 4 times and did every other suggestion - uninstalling/reinstalling, etc. This worked immediately!! Elgato needs to post these instructions!
I know!!! Me too, but I hate to back down from a challenge. I bought my prompter from B + H in NYC, and I live in HK, so more difficult to return. I use it all the time- especially for zoom calls.
I can only say: THANK YOU for your video and its solution. I would never have found it otherwise. Switched on the displaylink manager and ... all good to go! We should inform Elgato about this to enter in their quick start guide!

@@designinkco and I clumsily stopped sharing in the display manager. Getting that going was a nightmare. I couldn't find the option until I noticed a notification in the privacy settings (Mac) to allow access again. Should have taken a screen shot.
@@northlandca yes exactly, for some reason the toggle gets switched off if you haven’t used the prompter for a while. I had to watch my own video again to see why it wasn’t working.
@@designinkco used it for numerous google meets call today. really super kit. the Anker Conf300 is perfect with the thumb screw then swapping out for the FX30 for another recorded call was a breeze!
Totally agree- being able to look at someone when you talk to them is great. I've got it mounted permanently on my desk so not swapping it out but glad to hear that it is easy.
@@designinkco I’ve used so many different prompter/ipad/ monitor setups over the years that this just makes things so much easier. I would love a larger version.
This is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you SOO much!! :) I was starting to panic and think that my prompter may be faulty, or at the very least incompatible with my MacBook. Phew...😅
Thank you I will try this- and my Mac is a Imac 2020 Intel Machine (Sonoma OS 14.5) and I just purchased the Elgoto Prompter and Face Camera a few days ago. Reached out to Elgoto and not heard back from them yet. But yes I will try this and see what happens.- Update- Got the Display Manager working, and the prompter has my desktop, but is frozen and shows nothing else. Ill try to redo the steps again .
Ok I believe I'm moving with this. Thanks for this video, I have it working, and it's about figuring out what's happening and how it works now. And yes I can see the value in this and I'm ready to really learn and use it.
@@designinkco The toggle is enabled, but there is no picture (video of me showing like it was when I first connected it). So I have no control of the camera or my documents . The monitor features are working also.
@@designinkco I Finally got it. I believe the problem is that I was running the camera from a hub, and It needs power so I connected to the computer itself, and quit the Camera hub and restarted from the Applications folder- now it works. I'm not going to try to replug into a hub and try to run that way (ran out of internal USB inputs.
@@garyclement2888 I’m glad you fixed it. I have mine running into a CaldigitTS4 and it works but those other hubs without power won’t work. When I am feeling brave one day iI’ll try it out with the Elgato hub to see if that gives it enough power. Anyway glad you don’t have to go through the bother of returning it.
Excellent video! I watched it and I don't even have elgato! I'm actually torn right now between getting an elgato prompter or alternatively a glide gear teleprompter to use with 10.2" iPad for talking head language education type content. I know the elgato is fantastic - just thinking about the convenience of having lots of teleprompter app options on iPad , and also not being tethered to my MacBook Air all the time like with Elgato....any thoughts? Thank you!
Hi, I like the Elgato- the software makes it easy, but I also have another setup (from before I got the Elgato) using a Desiview teleprompter and the prompt smart app on an old iPhone. I still like this quite a bit when travelling because it has an automatic scrolling function that Elgato does not have. It's also a lot lighter for travel (which I do a lot). Honestly, I love tech, so I tend to like to buy the latest and greatest thing, but the combo you suggested would work fine, too. Glide gear stuff is great quality- I have a glide gear overhead camera mount and I like it a lot.
Sorry to hear that. Have you got display link loaded up on your mac? I tested it again this morning and it is working. There is also a new update so test that out. If you have any other questions- just make a comment here

@@designinkco it works when I am only using the software. When I'm recording at the same time on the same computer(eos utility) it doesn't work anymore. Haven't sold the problem. I think it's a problem that there are two different audio inputs

@@tonyspina81 I think I would agree! For the display link to work you do need to have a later OS. I’m impressed that your computer is still working.

There is a toggle at the bottom of the display link screen, make sure that is on. Hope you get it to work.

Never have been able to connect the Elgato Prompter to my MacStudio but is does work on MacBook Air...
I don't know about the Macbook air, but I have a MacStudio as well, and it definitely works! Just check the DisplayLink software.
@@designinkco I've been online with Elgato and done all of that...I am going to take the Studio in to the Apple Store and see what they find.
How did you connect it to your macbook air with the USB cable they gave?

Did these steps allow you to use the Prompter while being connected to a hub? Great Video BTW!!
@@MofoCentral The normal small hubs don’t work ( no power) however I have a caldigit TS8 and it works fine.
