The deco home is beautiful & I love all your work on these shows, but those handles on the kitchen cabinets are going to show finger prints. The mirrored back splash is going to need constant cleaning from food & water splashes that will show up more here than on a colored tiles. ps: your gate design/addition was brilliant!
I hope they sold the aged knotty pine boards from the 'sauna' kitchen. They are in demand for retro design. Really good design choices for both homes. Great episode. TFS 😊❤ Merry Christmas 🎄🎁❄️😊
I love the farmhouse kitchen. I have a couple of niggles with the 30s semi is those mirror tiles in the kitchen will drive Sophie crazy, and the staircase to the loft cuts that STUNNING stain glass window...otherwise lovely couples with lovely homes 🥰
The old kitchen units are actually very like traditional old Swedish kitchens of the second half of the 19th century. Traditionally they would have been painted with linseed oil paint in light grey, blue, or ochre. I would have kept them and simply remodelled the layout to make the kitchen more functional. No need to throw good money after cheap high street products when you have something beautiful already that only needs a bit of love.
Hi George, I have been following you for years and enjoy when you react spontaneously and enthusiastically to a renovation and all the good tips you give but 1 question that I often see in various countries is why is there always a draft hole under the front door, this causes unnecessary heating in cold periods
The kitchen in the 30s house is stunning. It is baffling that the owners seem so blase about the results ... maybe it's English reserve? The details are amazing!
I love the 14th century farmhouse kitchen. I don't see the Hollywood glamor fitting the down to earth teachers that own the 30s house. The palm tree wallpaper is questionable. The "living/dining/kitchen" hardly qualifies as such with one tiny loveseat. Where will the kid/s play? Where will company gather?
THe farmhouse is amazing!! I don't get the art deco one, either. Wasn't there a living room at the from of the house? That little sofa area is so awkward. I would have run the cabinets all the way along that back wall and put an island parallel to it. It would be more work surface. That size of u-shaped kitchen is not great for more than one person. Also the mirror tile backsplash - nope, they will need constant wiping to look clean. Otherwise, love the brightness, the colours and I don't even mind the wallpaper! The bathroom is great too, but no storage for the day-to-day personal items...
There’s plenty of room for the family. There were two doorways in the hall opposite the stairs. At least one of them is a living room with those big front windows. And the back family kitchen-living space is a good one to have tackled while kids are young, until they can get to the more formal rooms. - The thing I question is why there’s not more effort to consider the taste of the owners. The show did match the architecture to current design but, I wished the folks had loved the result better, since they can’t replace anything with so much more to do.
I would have loved a full epipsde of the old farmhouse rather than the 1930's house. The couple are so bland and odd, especially the husband. There doesn't seem to be much excitement or input. The space looks tacky and odd
The 30ies actually didn’t have white interiors but used pretty bold colours. The outside of art deco houses are white because these houses were inspired by Mediterranean villages with their simple white and boxy houses as a counter statement of the overly ornates facades of the Victorian and Edwardian era. But inside they would go for strong bold reds, greens, and blues and yellows. White interios are actually a pretty novel invention that came up in the 70ies and 80ies. So sorry George, but this isn’t really 1930ies ‘glamour’. And actually, the style of the house seems to be a mixture of art deco with the more romantic style of the 1910s and 20s.
I don't think the kitchen in the medieval house worked, too low and heavy. An unfitted style with dressers and repurposed vintage sideboards would've been cheaper and more interesting. The Deco place turned out nice but like most renovations, the declutter and re-paint has done 70% of the work! I'm convinced no one realises how much better a house looks when it's clean...
Blimey, yet another Sesame St house. Put tthe white paint back in Y2K and use correct tonal shifts. Also the furniture is incorrect size - both places had stupidly small dining tables.
What a lovely gate!
Lovely renovations. Nice to see a programme with no adverts
Love this show, the ideas are first class

Absolutely love the Kent house and its new kitchen!
Beautiful makeovers❤

I love this man and his house shows, he is to houses what Alan titchmarsh is to gardens 🥰

Never use marble for a countertop, it is very easily stained and can’t really be cleaned. It’s very porous.

I think they're just really bad at pretending they've never seen it before 😆
The Spar in Sunningdale has much more food variety, its fresh food haven. It’s not far from where you are, its probably a 15/20min walk.
Merry Christmas!!!!🎄 ❤

@@ginam.8378 I think you're right about a parlor in the front. Agree about the mirror backsplash!

Why do Brits want a sofa in a kitchen? And the mirror backsplash will be impossible to keep clean.
As a Brit I can say that not all of us do 😅
@@dtulip1apparently, some persons in very old, very cold homes do because the aga keeps the kitchen as the warmest room.😀
❤
Was this the Abraham Darby of the David Austin rose?
1970’s palm-tree Wallpaper : Why ?

Mirrored backsplash silly idea for anyone that cooks

The baby blue London house is sooo ugly
Agee😂

What year was this?
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS 💜💜🩵🧡💚🩷 George, if I ever become wealthy😇 I would need you to design the footprint of my home and design it. 🕯🕊🤍💛💖🔮Please
