    Little secret. Civilian law enforcement agencies prefer veterans who are not MPs.They want you to do things their way not the way you did it in the service.
    If your in shape, can shoot, look sharp, know how to handle yourself physically, can absorb information and take direction,you are good to go.
    You would be better off putting you came out of the Infantry or comms field then military LE on a job application.

      As a former Marine MP who is now the Captain over recruiting and retention for my police department, and as someone who was told this lie when I enlisted as an MP, I can say with absolute certainty: FALSE. It's easier to teach someone how to modify the basic knowledge they already have than it is to teach someone from scratch. Marine MPs are the perfect candidate because they already know about policing, have experience and know how to show up on time, understand the chain of command and mission accomplishment. The only people that I covet more than a Marine MP as a potential hire is someone who already is certified as a law enforcement officer in my state. There is not so much difference between civilian and military LE that it makes people untrainable.

      I'm on a municipal department which has thousands of sworn LEOs. We don't have a detective/ captain in our agency. Sounds like you're on Cow Town PD with lots of fat.

      @@thomasryan2679 Hi Thomas Ray, have you ever heard of the IndIanapolis police department or of the United States Department of Defense Police Department or Virginia Beach Police Department,or Norfolk Virginia Police Department each also have Police Inspectors. You must not have a Detective Division with a Captain in charge.

    • @DonaldPollard-g4z

      @@thomasryan2679 I think that you are confusing the Marine Corps Military Police, of which only has CID or NCIS of which do not have a Captain of Detectives.

    • @DonaldPollard-g4z
      @DonaldPollard-g4z ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe if you would get out of your unit and check around I’m sure that you will find the over 95% of any large Police Department will have a Detective Division with a Captain in charge.

      True it is not so great....lower GS people may be at gates a lot, but I will tell you this that you will have a federal job and the pension TSP etc....it is a long gray winter for a lot of people in the world right now and even before covid....go to Wal Mart and ask them if they would trade to be a GS 5-7 for 20 to 30 years or work making what they make and do what they do...I was a MCLEP too (GS 9) and worked at Wal mart part time so I can speak for both...

      I've heard both neg and pos things about 0083. It's what you make of it and definitely depends on where you're working at. I know now days, 2021, DoD officers have powers of arrest and operate exactly the same as Local LE.

      You can transfer that training to Civ LEO agencies (equivalency)

  • @jonmark11
    @jonmark11 ปีที่แล้ว

    lololol this is a GS5 to maybe GS7 position. Also, you're aren't considered to be a real LEO. basically, overly glorified security guard. their training is probably in-house and not FLETC. this means, you definitely ain't a real cop

    • @daniellamorten6230
      @daniellamorten6230 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, Civilian Marine Corps Police Officers are trained in a FLETC Accredited course and get a FLETC certification upon completion of 12 weeks at Fort Leonard Wood, along with 8 weeks in the Marine Corps Police Academy Basic Police Officers Course

      Law enforcement has always been a paramilitary organization. Why do you think it's one of the most sought after careers by military members.

    • @erwin643
      @erwin643 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@redd7188 Oh, I know why: Because some people choose to make a living being constantly told what to do and how to do it (Along with the usual psychopathy, i.e., wanting to kill people - I once served in the military with one guy who wanted to join the state police for that reason, ruin people's lives, etc.), as compared to people who choose to make their own way through life, developing real job skills or other professions, live by their own wits, think critically, etc.
