    I'm an 0341 and I met some great recon and Marsov marines. They're great at their jobs. A lot of Infantry guys complain about not doing some cool shit like this. But my best answer is that we may be the few and the proud. But this gentleman are the few and the proud within the few and the proud. Takes a special kind of mentality to be a special forces Marine. All of them are not just great warfighters, but they're also great leaders

    I have never served, nor do I have the intention to. However, I have studied amazing men that served in the military, from the wisdom taught by generals to the wisdom taught by special forces operators. I must have read at least 10 books written by retired military personal and I must say, I have learned a lot. I have learned about discipline, about persistence, about the power of good goals. I have learned about the idea of leadership and of taking complete ownership of your situation.
    I will probably never fire an M4. I will probably never wear battle fatigues. However, these videos and all the wisdom left behind by the great men and women that served in the military will always serve me towards accomplishing my own personal goals and endeavors. These people are more brave, more hardworking, more motivated then I'll ever be but I'm proud to know that I've took so many lessons from the military mindset and implemented them in my own life.
    For this, even if I'm not from the US, even if I've never served, all branches of the military have my gratitude.

    Force recon units are NOT part of the division. They are a MEF asset. There are 3 Force Recon companies one associated with each MEF. They used to be an independent MEF unit, but, the initial creation of MARSOC pulled heavily from the Force Recon companies, so shortly after MARSOC was stood up in 2006, the Force Reconnaissance companies were deactivated. After a couple years, it was realized that the Force Reconnaissance mission was still needed, so a fourth company was added to each of the Reconnaissance battalions "D" Company, which became the Force Recon company of each Recon battalion. Well, now, that requires a discussion of the distinctions between Battalion Recon and Force Recon. All recon Marines enter the ranks via the Basic Amphibious Reconnaissance Course, which, I believe, is 3 months long. They go on to get jump qualified at Fort Benning, GA, and scuba qualified at the Marine Corps Combatant Diver Course. Usually, only Marines with at least one tour in the Fleet are allowed to apply for recon, so, they are usually more mature, but, their first step after schools is placement in a recon battalion. There are 3 recon Battalions--one associated with each Division. Battalion Reconnaissance is a Division asset. What this means is that Battalion Recon works for the Marine Division CG and usually works within the artillery fan of the division to collect information on the enemy directly pertinent to division operations. . Force recon works at the force level--the MAGTF and higher level. So, while each reconnaissance battalion works directly for the division commander, each Force Reconnaissance company (although admin'd within the Recon Battalion) works directly for the MEF CG--or the commander of the division commander. What that means is that Force Recon usually works BEYOND the artillery fan--super deep in enemy territory, often without the possibility of even air support. Because of the extreme difficulty and sensitivity of the Force Recon mission, only the best of Battalion Recon will get to move into Force. That means that Force is "the best of the best." On an historical note--Marine Amphibious Reconnaissance developed right alongside the Navy UDT teams of WWII. Whereas UDT did have an offensive mission that took them covertly into foreign harbors to set charges underneath enemy naval vessels, they also were involved in beach reconnaissance and obstacle removal before landing forces debarked into landing craft in amphibious operations. The Marine Amphibious Reconnaissance Company was primarily responsible for beach reconnaissance and obstacle removal, but, was trained in underwater demolitions as well. The concept of Force Reconnaissance came into being in 1957 (Navy SEALs inception was in 1962). Force Recon pioneered the research in HAHO and HALO insertion methods, as well as SCUBA assents from submarines (they literally climbed into the torpedo tubes and crawled out, at night, and their only orientation to the surface was to follow the bubbles!!). By the early 1960's, Force Recon was running missions around the world in places no one knew Americans even went. They were long regarded as some of the finest, unsung operators in the world, while the SEAL program was in its birth stages. To read of Force Recon missions run in Vietnam is mind blowing. Their stories rank right up there with the LRRPS and Vietnam SEALs.

      legend neverdies. Your absolutely right with a lot of this, However I took a recon indoc right out of infantry (0331) school. The day I graduated I volunteered. After I completed the indoc, I went to RIP school. RIP school weeds out the the "stragglers" to give focus to the guys who are ready fot the school. Once graduated we move to BRC (Basic Reconassiance Course). After graduation then we hit the specialty courses. Recon (Battalion), Force (Company). Force is MEU and is smaller. It's more DA (Direct Action). To be Force it requires more training and you have to be selected. Just because you made it to Recon does not mean you made it to Force. I was In from 2000-2012. I was in before MARSOC and was their for the build up and finalization of MARSOC. Although we did alot of "High speed, low drag" missions we were never considered "Special Forces" even though we did alot of the same missions. MARSOC put us on the map amd changed all that. MARSOC pulled most Recon Marines over to the school since we're already trained at most. We went through the motions once again and now recognized as a special forces unit. Your right on the money with your knowledge.

      What? No, you are wrong. If you mean "Special Forces", as in Green Berets, then yes, you can get a 18 X-Ray contract right off the street with the Army. Just like the SEALS, Air Force Special Operations, and Marine Recon (Battalion). To be in Recon you would have a UZ contract and go to BRPC or MART if you pass ITB. Maybe back in the 80's and 90's Recon would only take seasoned Marines after a term in the Fleet, but now you can go to Recon after ITB, or get a Lat Move package approved after spending sometime at your current non-recon duty station (on your first contract), or, Lat Move after your first enlistment. You cannot go straight into Force.

      @k.j.jr.1143 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This video is a couple years old. They've swapped those M45a1 1911s for Glocks like most other high tier units. Some will always stay tride and true to the 1911 until they are all broken and gone from U.S. inventory. But Glocks are easier to maintain and the 9mm allows for better standardization with other NATO countries. Like I said though some units, even in the Army, refuse to give up their 1911s. As someone who like both I say, once a Green Beret or Force Recon member starts trading lead at close range I don't know if what particular pistol they do it with is gonna matter all that much.

      Recon is still under the MAGTF whereas Raiders are under SOCOM. Recon is still attached to the MEF and conducts operations with the regular Marine force. Raiders work with the entire SF community with much more specialized missions; could direct action or training of foreign militaries, snatch and grabs, etc, etc.

    • @dallasyap3064
      @dallasyap3064 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Force Recons are more towards of reconnaissance and surveillance and other intelligence gathering operations on specific enemy targets deep in their territories to provide battlefield image to the MEF commander. Marine Raiders are doing other stuff like direct action, special reconnaissance, counter-insurgency, foreign internal defense, counter-drug operations etc. Force Recons are under the MAGTF, while Marine Raiders are under SOCOM.

      Well I'll tell you what I know . MARSOC is mainly put with counter terrorism , direct action , and reconnaissance . As all members of ussocom . However force recon does mostly green operations . Because they specialize in special reconnaissance . But they do sometimes perform black operations . Majority of the time you will never hear about a force recon mission . It's their job to get in and out with no shots fired , no one even knew they were there . But shit happens ...

    • @chuckr9938
      @chuckr9938 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A MEU from the east coast and west coast are always forward deployed. Short of an invasion they will be the first assets in a region to deal with anything from a humanitarian mission, rescue a down pilot, evacuate an embassy, or support an ongoing war. Assuming there is no war going on getting deployed on a MEU is your best shot of seeing some action. Is it difficult to become part of a MEU? Depends on your MOS and unit. Your best bet is to go 03xx and get stationed on the east or west coast (not Hawaii). Force Recon is part of every MEU they are a component just as a regular infantry battalion is part of every MEU.

    • @dallasyap3064
      @dallasyap3064 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      MEUs have few components the Ground Combat Element (GCE), the Aviation Combat Element (ACE), the Logistic Combat Element (LCE) and the command staff. So I'm assuming u are asking for GCE. GCE is the infantry battalion of a MEU. They are selected from one of the Marine Corps infantry battalions, and put through an intensive 6 months pre-deployment training to get them certified as Special Operations Capable (SOC) prior to getting deployed on amphibious assault ships.

The Raiders have more of a focus on Direct Action, Special Reconnaissance, and Counterterrorism/Counterinsurgency. Out of nowhere one of them let's out a war cry. Mind over matter. No matter what physical pain you're suffering you can always give more than you think. Especially if you're an athlete and used to working out. I made it to a STA platoon and tried out for Recon but didn't pass oh well Divine intervention had other plans for me.

But if you fail BRC then you go as an open contract and are assigned whatever MOS the Marine Corps needs you in. So its safer to go in as an 0311 and then do BRC after you pass SOI, that way if you fail you are just put in a standard line company as a rifleman.

    • @cm-pr2ys
      @cm-pr2ys 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raiders aren't infantry. While they have the 0372 (or 0302 whatever designation for Officers) MOS, they never went to ITB on either coast, and through their passing of ASPOC, A & S, and ITC, are special operators, and function as such. They are not elite "INFANTRY", and they are not the Marine Corps version of the Rangers.

    • @cm-pr2ys
      @cm-pr2ys 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, not really. While Rangers that are not in the RRC might handle some limited special reconnaissance tasks if the situation dictates, most are a striking, direct action SOF infantry force. The Rangers usually depend on supporting assets from other units outside of their nucleus to help them, such as aviation (160th SOAR usually), artillery, etc., and they don't usually have the staying power-they get in and get out. However, unlike the Marines, they get more funding, have higher standards, and can enforce those standards by kicking problem Rangers out of the regiment. The Marines deploy with the whole package, and can rely on theselves instead of others for aviation, artillery, logistical support etc, due to the MAGTF (MEU, MEB, MEF, SPMAGTF, etc.) concept, and can remain onn site longer than Rangers, but, have lower standards and less funding and mission tasking. When you look at Marine Recon, they are similar in that they are infantrymen trained to a higher standard than your average Marine grunt, and while they are supposed to focus on reconnaissance, they also do limited direct action missions. Force Recon is Battalion Recon Marines that have been around for a few years and are stellar performers that have been to a few schools. After selecting them and passing the Force Recon Indoc, they get to go to even more schools and do more training, and they do even more Direct Action. Mission set wise, the Marines don't really have anything that 100% mirrors what the Rangers do, so it's kind of apples to oranges, even when we consider something like Ranger School and Advanced Infantry Marine Course/ Infantry Small Unit Leaders Course.

      Marine Reconnaissance doesn't have a single insignia per se. The devices worn include parachutist wings (i.e. silver army airborne wings), which after a period of jumps the Marine parachutist earns the Navy/Marine gold parachutist wings. Other units, like ANGLICO for example, also sport the gold wings. In addition, Marine combatant divers earn its device, which was historically the Navy's silver scuba badge, but it has been updated in the last decade+ to the gold Marine combatant diver device. These scuba badges have been nicknamed the "bubbles" devices. The gold wings paired with the bubbles device, while not exclusive to Reconnaissance, is most often used by and is tantamount to Recon insignia. MARSOC/Raiders, on the other hand, have developed its own insignia badge.

      Der Usurpator MARSOC and FR and pretty much all US Special Operations Units have to complete jump and dive training. There are hundereds of combat MOS's in the Marine Corps that do not involve jump training so you could probably try for one of those but I think you should definitely talk to a Marine recruiter about this stuff because they are going to know the most about this stuff and are going to be able to help you the most. Remember the recruiter is not there to be a big scary dude trying to make a Marine out of you. He is just there to try and help you as much as possible when choosing an MOS, taking the ASVAB, and going through MEP's.

      @paddypace 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Semantics. Yes, Army Special Forces is the denomination of unit identity, and Special Operations is the generic for elite units who perform unconventional warfare. As such, many units are special ops, but only one is called Special Forces, so far as an American unit is concerned. Nonetheless, Special Forces, internationally, can be used as a synonym for Special Operations, despite the fact that a U.S. Army unit has that as its name. So, can we call SEALS, Rangers, CCT, Recon, etc. special forces? As a synonym for Special Ops, yes; as a unit, no. Not really a hill to defend so fervently.
