I own three different firearms in 5.7 (PSA Rock, S&W 5.7, and an AR57). I absolutely love them. Super low recoil, high round count, and feels like a cheat code in my hand. They may not be for everyone but I sure do enjoy the hell out of mine.

A buddy of mine got one when it first came out. He also found some of the original military rounds. These rounds would go through multiple Kevlar vests, much better than 7.63x25. While vaporizing cans of soda, we noticed that it wasn't penetrating some of the cans. We found a can with the bullet sitting in the exploded can in reloadable condition. This ammunition was quickly prohibited, but with the penetration and hydro shock was unbelievable. I still have the bullet and the rifling is clear. Comparison to 22 WMR is ridiculous.

I don't have enough knowledge to know whether I agree with you that the comparison to 22 Magnum is silly or not. On the face of it, velocity and bullet weight are indeed similar, at least for standard loadings of the 5.7. But it's hard for me to believe that FN would go to all the trouble of designing this thing and come up with anything even vaguely similar to a 22 Magnum!

I bought the beautiful Ruger 57 because it is one of the safest pistols in the word. It is NOT fully cocked when the slide is racked; pulling the light trigger finishes the cocking and lets the internal HAMMER fall on the waiting firing pin. The ambi manual safeties are useful for UTTER safety, but can be ignored too. The high velocity round has very little rise and fall, plus little wind drift, so it is very easy to shoot accurately, not to mention the light recoil for staying on target. The cartridge also has little ability to over-penetrate either; it dumps all of its velocity energy almost instantly, without much left to escape the target...........................elsullo

My brother gave up his .45 for the 5.7 after he was injured in Iraq in 2004. His war injuries would not allow recoil any longer. The bullet is going faster, delivering more shock and can even penetrate enough to rip through the spine and essential organs with a good shot placement. Not to mention, it’s light, guns usually hold 15+. Expensive but that’s what you get with the gun world 💯

Use caution when reloading 5.7! If you want to get nerdy, it's important to note that the energy of the projectile is proportional to the square of the speed. Therefore, a 1600 ft per second round has about 75% more energy than a 1200 ft per second round, assuming the same weight bullet, even though it's going only 33 percent faster. Some 5.7 ammo can go 2400 ft per second or more. Such a round would have four times as much energy as the same slug at 1,200 ft per second.

    • @xckk5849
      @xckk5849 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

It's also important to not that the energy of the projectile is mostly irrelevant in handguns, especially if the round passes through. Momentum has more of an impact on the ability to interrupt an attack and speed is linear there.

I have the FN57 and several 9mm's. For me, average sized guy, the 57 is a little too big for EDC so I have some smaller 9mm's that I use. I found a threaded barrel for the FN and with a Red Dot and the suppressor, it's my house gun. Don't care what you're wearing when you come into my house, I can put a hole in you. Then there are the Elite T6B +P AP rounds... Several dollars per round but 2,500 fps out of a pistol is amazing.

Hmmm, interesting comments. My opinion... caliber in a handgun is almost unimportant - within reason (.25 auto need not apply...) - what's important with a handgun is hitting what you're shooting at, which most handgunners are very poor at. Hitting your target is a matter of many hours and thousands of rounds of practice. Most handgunners would be more effective spending their money on range fees, ammo, and targets than a different handgun.

I have had horrible luck with FN. I'm not saying they are a bad manufacturer but I am cursed with their products. I've had a five seven that was sent back three times and still couldn't make 100 rounds without lite strikes and double feeding. I also had an FNX that shipped with a crooked frame. The only product from them I have had luck with was a 509C and even then it had a rough break in period. I am glad 5.7 is getting popular because it was such a fun and controllable round. Thinking of getting a ruger 57 or a Rock.

Gee! Noting that the ammo tray is to Hickock45's left side when reloading the magazine, ya think relocating the ammo tray to Hickok45's right side would lessen the labor of picking up the rounds and placing them in the magazine.
Hickok45 having to reach from right-to-left-and-right again to load the magazine seems laborious when considering the multiple rounds he is loading.

I’ve had one since 04, and carried it on occasions I prefer a smaller micro 9 for comfort but I’ve found myself in areas that having a 20 round magazine and a back up 30 round magazine is preferred. If you are going to carry one as a self defense weapon do not carry the blue tip FN ammo or hollow points the round does not have enough mass to make it effective as a an expanding round the American eagle fmj are known to tumble in soft targets similar to the 5.56 55 grain fmj and this makes them more effective than the very limited expansion and energy transfer of the hp rounds. They also more effective at penetrating cover and while not AP rounds they have a better chance against level 3 soft armor.

Agreed on all of this but remember the third rule about whats behind and around your target when carrying a hyper round like 5.7, or even like my old 7.62 tokarev. More damage and penitration is great but not always good.

Remembering what it's designed for I think it's a good round and a good set of firearms. I've got a PS-90 and it does its job. I do not have a 5.7 pistol as I'm not much of a pistol person. I was certain that twisty magazine feed would be fussy but I've never had any trouble. Whether it's the best firearm you could buy with that many dollars is another question. I'm not sorry I bought mine.

This is one of the finest handguns ever machined in terms of its simplistic but elegant design. It is way too overrated in terms of its special .22 caliber and extremely expensive cartridge ammunition. If you research why law enforcement purchases this gun as a standard sidearm for their police forces in the United States, you'll find that there are a myriad of illegal satellite companies getting so many kickbacks for this highly overrated firearm. Not recommended for personal protection.
Very good machining design though in terms of how the rounds are chambered with almost zero chance of jamming and a minimal amount of parts to assemble the weapon.

Certainly a cool round from a technical perspective, and obviously the gun manufacturer makes a great product. But one has to ask why a normal person would ever need to consider it, given that 9 mm is perfectly adequate and significantly less expensive, and there are many excellent and significantly less expensive firearms to shoot it from. Basically, 5.7 is an expensive novelty that's fun to play with for folks who enjoy firearms and can afford to buy extra pistols.

The FN Five Seven Mk3 is overrated. I was kinda disappointed with my purchase but nevertheless I keep it in my collection because it's become a staple in the gun community. My main gripe with it is that it comes with those weak glow in the dark sights instead of tritium sights. I mean if it's supposed to be a tactical pistol, how do you not ship it with tritium night sights. Honestly, who's got time to run a flashlight across their sights before engaging in self defense? I could add a red dot or a laser but why should I HAVE to? I should be able to run the gun vanilla and be prepared for almost any occasion. Other than that, the grip is a tad short, or maybe my hands are just too large. Outside of that, it's a good gun but for the price i just expected a little more. Look at the FNX 45 tac or the 545 tac, they both have night sights and the grip is the perfect length
