The reason why I am considering getting this phone is because I want to be able to use whatsapp, signal and discord, proton mail (and vpn) but I want to not constantly scroll on social media, I want a device that's communication first without being outright locked out of other stuff in case I need to look something up.

Was waiting to see a doctor when someone took out his "slab" phone to watch wresting. It was very disturbing and operator was told to stiffen it by a receptionist. Got the Unihertz Pocket and will activate it. The only drawback is Android system which is a best is clunky. Like your concept of "digital minimalism." Thank you.

Great review as always. Any known security issues with this device? Seems like a good transition phone for detoxing, but I have seen a couple passing mentions by other reviewers about security problems.
Most people just don't trust Chinese manufacturers. That's what they mean by security. The reality is that unihertz has been developing phones for a while and they are pretty reputable. If you are interested in no data collection Android is not secure in any of it's flavors except for CalyxOS and GrapheneOS. So the device is secure, but if you don't trust Chinese manufacturers then one can look at the alternatives. Sadly for qwerty there are none 😂
Jose you seem like the guy to ask - I'm after a phone for my mum, she's 80 and really just wants a flip phone, but a candy bar would do. Good question. There are a couple of options. CAT S22, Wisephone, and also another option is the Lively flip. I believe they have a senior tracking feature.
First of all I want to say thanks for being vulnerable and I hope you are able to find a long term solution to your desire of quitting. I'd say that this phone can be helpful, but a phone without access to a web browser like the Sunbeam F1, Light Phone 2, Punkt MP02, or Mudita Pure would be better options because they literally are designed to be used very little. The browser is the main issue you need to deal with. The less you use it, the better it will be. Coupling this phone with something like Unpluq or other software like Covenant Eyes can be also an alternative.

Jose, this was a good review on the Unihertz Titan Pocket. I am a Blackberry Key2 user who uses AT &T as the service provider. Unfortunately, at the end of January, AT & T will no longer support the Blackberry Key2, and we are being forced to either purchase a new cell phone or move to another service provider. T-Mobile will accept the Blackberry Key2 as the service provider. Any thoughts?

I have this phone and I really like it, but I'm having issues with Android Auto. Sometimes it seems to work and other times it doesn't. It's frustrating because I can't find much information on how to solve this issue. Do you have any tips?
This is a common issue since Google started to drop support for Android Auto via phones. They have finally shut down some of the Auto versions so it doesn't work as reliably as before.

I have this phone now.... And I have 2 issues. One is that its not compatible with Verizon. Doesn't matter what APN setting I use, and since its not certified by verizon, no help. Two is the bluetooth drops over and over with my car. I'm trying to return but after reading the return policy, I'm probably stuck with it.
@@JoseBriones I got Verizon working... Took the APN settings from both the Pixel 3a and moto g power and combined them. But the Bluetooth issue is still happening. If I didn't drive two hours round trip for work it wouldn't bother me.
Hi Jose, may I use a voice to text app as Google Assistant or Transcribelt, wich I use in my AGM M7' in this device? I am not kind a pro texter and prefer to dictate the sentence to a useful app wich do the job correctly, both in spanish and english. Was pretty sure my next device would have been a CAT S22 but after your review ain t so sure anymore. Wich one would you pick? Just need basic, Whatsapp, Podcasts, Waze, Telegram and a few useful apps, no social media at all. Never had any.

I am long time (close to 5 yrs) user of BB Keyone - i am just too old to utilize daily driver with this touch-crap. Being raised on Nokia 5510 and later Symbians i can't imagine productive use of communication device with leaving fingerprints on screen ;P but to the point. Only thing i miss in K1 is unavailability to root and ultimately degooglify. I managed to win race with pre-configurator and to disable bloat apps, but wasn't able to disable ALL. How does this aspect of TP looks like? And yes, i know i can use ADB manager (or shell- preferred method :P), but having root privileges enables to do so much more!

Instead of 1*1 ratio, 3.1 inch screen ..If the screen ratio is 4*3 wide , 3.5 inch ,it will be more ergonomically pleasant... I think it take away the phones attractiveness when the screen is square.. blackberries downfall began when they changed the screen ratio of the phone from 4*3 wide screen to 1*1 squared screen..
Does a custom launcher work on this phone? I want to buy one but once I purchased the regular huge Titan, I couldn't keep Microsoft Launcher as my permanent home launcher. Instead it went back to its ugly stock launcher...
The device held up well for about 2 years. After that, the software slowed down. You need to reset it at that point to continue having a good experience. I don't use this device anymore, but it is a good one.
I really want to get rid of my smart phone and focus on being more present. However , I have moved to a new area I still really need google maps. I think the Titan will be a good option for me. I also love a real qwerty keyboard 👍🏻

Been using this phone for 4 months now and it's great. I give it 4/5.
The jelly 2 seems like a better transition device. Support for other ROMs would be even better.

It’s similar, but not the same. You’ll get a feel for the keyboard, but the blackberry keyboards are 1.5 steps above this one.

After extensive research, I believe Hisense A9 E-ink phone is a good recommendation. A normal smart phone with black and white E-ink display
Have to disagree to an extent. While not ideal, you certainly can consume media on the Titan Pocket ;I consume media a lot on my Unihertz Titan.

No good full keyboard phones except those with Android. Sadly no manufacturer is producing LTE ready QWERTY devices.

Camera is as good as a mid range smartphone. Gets the job done and takes clear pictures.
Camera is terrible by smartphone standards, but with google camera it's passable
The stock camera app is horrible, but yes with google camera it matches other budget smartphones

Either works. The Titan Pocket or the CAT S22 work for you.

Most seem to agree that the Pocket's keyboard is more clicky. But that's because the big titan is rated for water resistance and the pocket is not.

Bigger than a blackberry, definitely easier to type. If you are looking for a qwerty phone, this is the best in the market right now

After a while, ATT may kick you out of their network because you are not using an “approved” device. If you use an MVNO, no issues.
