I think you can just plug a USB keyboard (like the kind you'd plug into a computer) into any normal phone using an adapter that fits with the phone's charging port and it should be compatible, it wouldn't be super portable but if I needed to use a physical keyboard I'd prefer a big one. @@Userjdanon they mean with a physical keyboard, you can just look up and keep your attention trained on something else while still being able to text. Your thumbs can just find the keys very easily. In times of crisis (having to write a thesis) I've bought a 50$ Priv half a year ago. Just note taking and a sporadic phone call. For me the *absolute* killer feature were the shortcuts that gave so much power to the user. Device also felt so good in the hands it's a darn shame BB gave up on the idea and didn't make a 2020 Priv2. I did the thing and sold the Priv (to use it for anything else was more than a pain with Android 6 and was so slow it lagged my input when typing). Now I'm looking to buy a Key2 or Key2LE to have just a SIM-less PDA for notes and productivity stuff like Todoist and time tracking. For these purposes and more generally to have a workhorse (that's also a conversation starter) the blackberries are still great. I really do hope for a keyboard flagship *with shortcuts compability* somewhere in 2020
I've been using the BlackBerry Key2 for one and an half year. It's still perfect and still no other phones attract me more. There are so many lovely things you can do with shortcuts with the keyboards you can't do with other devices. Hoping for new BB devices. A dream? Physical keyboard and pen like the Notes
Agreed and me too. Only fellow Key2 users know how solid and versatile this phone is. 👌 (I've had high end Android and IPhones and Key2 is a cut above the rest)
I'd LOVE to see an updated version of the Blackberry PRIV. THAT was an awesome idea: at first glance a regular phone that's just a bit thicker than most... But one tap at the lower edge of the screen and the display part slides upwards revealing a regular Blackberry keyboard that's practically identical to the one on the KEY2. A device like that with stereo speakers and a headphone Jack and I'd buy it in an instant.
Typing on a PRIV that I got from a BlackBerry employee. Love it even if it is a little slow and scuffed up from being a real work phone. I would love a revised version that is up to modern standards with great battery life.
Yes the Priv needs an update and I have heard one is coming. Since I upgraded from the Priv to the Key 2 it is no contest. The key 2 has a better keyboard and a memory slot so I don't run out of room like I did on the Priv.
Got a used Key2 LE in 2019 and I honestly don't know what I'm going to do when it gives up the ghost. Here's hoping that at least one of these companies continues to develop keyboard devices.
totally agree but then BlackBerry abandoned it. All they needed to do is upgrade/ hybrid the software or do an identical Q10 phone but with the power of Key2.
That is right. I still use a BB Passport, but I have also a BB Classic. There was not, and probably there will not be a smartphone with a better physical keyboard then the BB Classic.
@@daarksideyt Well said. I had a Q10 too and absolutely loved it (adored it in fact!) but then bit by bit big name apps started not working on it and the BBStore became full of nonsense. I made the switch to Key2 over a year ago and feel I made the best decision. The most difficult leap from Q10 for me was the size but actually with the Key2 after a couple of days you get used to it and it's a very nice looking phone in person. (and quite slender but robust so fits in pockets nicely) So many physical key short cuts even a spare button on the side to programme whatever you want. Finger print recognition on keyboard space bar. Lots of hybrid options too. I have the Key2 Dual-Sim BB006 phone in black.

Unihertz just recently started rolling out a Titan Pocket that’s apparently a smaller version with better software and security, but has the same square screen with a smaller footprint, and it allegedly trades off the water resistance from the original due to being less rugged. Plus, the camera is still pretty bad. Interested to see if you’ll check it out

That surprises me, Daniel, and disappoints me as well. LG has been truly working to keep their phones supported and erase bad will from years past. I would have thought the G8S would be up to date.
I have the Australia Telstra version and it hasn't done any updates in 2020 where the other versions of this model have so it's just another bottleneck
I went through four BB PRIVs, and am REALLY hoping a decent replacement will arrive before my last one dies. PRIV has it all: portrait all the time, standard screen size, keys when you need them and none when you don't. Why wouldn't they just put a faster processor in it and take my money?
I used the nokia e72 as my main business phone in the days. Done everything for me: full exchange integration, great maps app. The only damage it got where that I was wearing down some keys. Loved it (only the camera was really bad but that was true for most phones at that time) I miss that nokia masterpiece in your collection.
Well I still love the Key2, particularly the keyboard. Have had it for near on two years since it came out, no issues at all with it, and still getting security updates
FYI. I have a Titan now for daily use. I use my Passport for the built-in Notes app. And my KeyOne (cause KeyTwo is crap) when i am at home, today, because the android apps work so well. I think you can just plug a USB keyboard (like the kind you'd plug into a computer) into any normal phone using an adapter that fits with the phone's charging port and it should be compatible, it wouldn't be super portable but if I needed to use a physical keyboard I'd prefer a big one.
There may also be wireless keyboards that could connect using Bluetooth or something, but I've only tried wired ones. (while writing this comment I remembered that I still have the adapter I used the first time I tried this, so I can confirm this trick still works because I'm typing on a physical keyboard right now!)

I'm more interested in a Key2 alternative than in an overpriced laptop with a garbage GPU. The new Blade Stealth from Razer looks like a much better ultrabook alternative, and it justifies the overpricing with a capable GPU.
Tbf it is Mr mobile, so phones talk first, the rest after
Manthe there is thing called battery life in a 13 inch laptop which is heavily effected by putting a gpu also in 5 years razer will be bankrupt when iPads are dominant because windows 10x doesn’t look so promising

I would love a throwback of your first Blackberry (and other early smartphones, I love the nostalgia trip)
the sidekicks are always nostalgic. hope they can come back.
The best form factor to comply with Android UI might be a slider like the BlackBerry Priv, but instead all promising devices want to be mini laptops instead of phones.
Who else wants a folding phone with a physical keyboard
@Marvin Zimmerman exactly
I'd like a keypad.
I wish I could get a smartphone with a keyboard. I would text more.
@Marvin Zimmerman a physical keyboard is NOT gimmicky if you're doing heavy typing.
A giant slab of glass with a hole punch and 4 cameras, 3 of which you'll probably never use, sounds alot more "gimmicky" to me
I would but a good one.

"keyboards have no place on a phone today"
Uhm no. I hope more flagship phones have physical keyboards. Way easier to text without actually looking at the screen.
So true. I do feel annoyed by touch keyboard, but it seems like I have no choice but to deal with it.
Are you old? Because I dont have to look at the keyboard to type text..
@@Userjdanon they mean with a physical keyboard, you can just look up and keep your attention trained on something else while still being able to text. Your thumbs can just find the keys very easily. Although you can do this on a virtual keyboard as well, it's arguably more difficult because there isn't a sense of where the keys are.
@@themadhattress5008 Maybe it's because I somewhat grew up with touch screen devices (born in 98) but I can type on a virtual keyboard without looking or having my attention distracted, its muscle memory of where the keys are. I'm familiar with the QWERTY layout and if you have autocorrect on, it will usually fix the fat thumbed mistakes. But I do see your perspective, just telling you mine.
I don't wanna say this is an old people problem but it kinda is. Most people these days can type without even looking at the screen. It's probably cause you grew up in the age of physical keyboards that it bothers you. And also adding a physical keyboard to high end flagships is gonna make it look horrible and completely outdated. So i don't think they are gonna do it anytime soon.
I miss my BlackBerry Passport so much, would immediately switch to any decent keyboard device. Key2 wasn't just too powerful, and slider form-factor would be perfect. Like a modern powerful Priv with enough RAM and nice processor has the best of both worlds

Gotta love it. Lol.
Priv was indeed popular
I still use a key 2 and I still have my key 1. No issues and a great love for the physical keyboard.
Got a used Key2 LE in 2019 and I honestly don't know what I'm going to do when it gives up the ghost. Here's hoping that at least one of these companies continues to develop keyboard devices.

Blackberry Q10 one of the best phones I ever used and owned in my opinion.
totally agree but then BlackBerry abandoned it.
@@daarksideyt please let me know cause I'm interested in the fxtec pro. Have the bb key1 and I love this phone but I hate the ratio's because things get cut off on my screen. But that security tho which is the only reason I don't want to part with this phone
@@daarksideyt i went from Q10 to Key1 eventhough i was so fond of that small thing, I did miss a decent camera and yes, now i'm on social media all day and my life sucks more lol. My phone of choice for everyday use is always going to be an iPhone, however I have a serious guilty pleasure - BlackBerry. I love collecting old BB phones, and one you left out in this review I thought was worth a mention is the Blackberry Priv. Unihertz just recently started rolling out a Titan Pocket that’s apparently a smaller version with better software and security, but has the same square screen with a smaller footprint, and it allegedly trades off the water resistance from the original due to being less rugged. I went through four BB PRIVs, and am REALLY hoping a decent replacement will arrive before my last one dies. PRIV has it all: portrait all the time, standard screen size, keys when you need them and none when you don't. Why wouldn't they just put a faster processor in it and take my money?
