- Maand, a very popular raag in northern India is a janya of 23rd melakartha raag Dheera Shakarabharanam, originally delved from Rajastani folk music.

Excellent Singing and Explanation, Thanks madam. Hindustani music Raag Maand Aroha&Avaroha&Pakad is different from Carnatic music Maand. Arohana is SRMPDS.Avarohana is SNDM,PGR,SRGS.Pakad is DNP,DM,PGR,SRGS. CARNATIC Maand is Similar to Hindustani Hemant.
There are different types of Mand in Hindustani sangeet, basically of folk origin. Scale wise, the carnatic scale resembles Hemant but does not sound like Hemant at all. Ragas of folk origin like mand, pahadi, pilu ,etc. are not strictly based on arahona and avarohana. A mere scale does not define a raga.
Thanks for this video, but it will be helpful if the scale is sing twice. What is the name of the singer who sang Maand alapana? She is excellent!

Namaste Madamji,Nice Singing ,Thanks.Musicians Said that Raag Maand is taken from North Indian Music,But South Indian Musicians are not singing Actual Maand Arohana and Avarohana .They are singing "Hemanth" raaga ( Hindustani) Arohana and Avarohana:SGMDNS/SNDPMGRS as Maand as you have Sung.. Maand and Hemanth are both Hindustani raagas. They are closed raagas.Maand raaga has different Aroha na and Avarohana.
What are the aarohan and avrohan of raag Hemant ?

In mand both dhaivath, gaandhaar r relevant...so that Arohan and Avarohan has relevance.
