Exquisite. Such a shame so many composers of Gipp's era are largely forgotten from concert programmes now. Especially female composers. There is such a wealth of fine, unperformed music out there.
Thank you very much for your comment, Jay Mackie!!! There are two problems around this: The heirs of the composer, and the publishers. I can understand that the heirs of a composer imagine that they will receive some money for the works of their relative. But I can not accept that a publisher takes over all the rights of a composer's work. I had hundreds of blocked posts on my channel. The strangest thing is that some publishers block the works of composers who died 200 years ago ... There are many good composers blocked by the ambition and commercial selfishness of publishers. It would be good to make a public denunciation of that, because I have endured several denunciations of these piranhas.
@@RobertoPintos I read that much of her work was self published; lobmusiclibrary.wordpress.com/2021/08/04/made-in-birmingham-4-ruth-gipps/ hence the shortage of scores. Obviously a supremely talented & sadly neglected composer.
@@robinstokes5179 : Thank you very much for the interesting information, Robin! Yes, unfortunately, a composer who deserves more recognition. I'll be making new posts soon. My schedules are horrible right now, for a long time...
I am very happy to know that you liked this work, Obdúlio Rincón. Thank you very much for your words. If you speak Spanish, you can write in this language.
I premiered her Clarinet Concerto last Nov and prepared the materials. She is such an underrated composer like so many British composers both male and female.
I heard this recently performed by the National Youth Orchestra. It was also featured in the final of the 2020 Young Musician contest and you can see the whole performance on the BBC4 website.
I bought the recent recording of two of RG's symphonies after hearing the scherzo from the fifth symphony on the radio. She's a great find. Good to hear this concerto. I was almost a horn player, so it's particularly interesting to hear another, unknown, concerto for horn.
This is an agreeable work, but I wonder about its "staying power", as I'm unsure if I'd ever want to hear it again. But I am interested in Gipps' music generally, and am glad to acquaint myself with more of it.
Thank you very much for your words, Ronald. Your question is interesting. I am glad to know that I have been able to contribute to your curiosity about the work of Gipps.

Along with countless other 20th-century, Ruth Gipps made the mistake of having been born and brought up in Britain---an immediate disqualifier for the serious attention of the musical establishment in this country. Why do we so shamefully neglect our own composers?---especially when they give us fine music like this? Admittedly Ruth Gipps had a fleeting week of attention a few weeks ago in recognition of her centenary, but when shall hear her music again? Well, I'm going to acquire some CDs so that I'm not dependent on BBC R3---which I used to listen to almost constantly 30-odd years ago, when the choice of music was actually wider than it is today.
It appears absolutely everything is moving towards what the middle of the bell curve wants, and anything outside of that, including music, gets no attention. Clothing, food, cars, furniture, .... everything. Just being female put her on the fringe and she would have been better off to use a male pseudonym.
unfortunately, her immediate disqualifier was being a woman- gender roles have had a strong hold on Eurocentric culture for centuries and being a woman and writing music do not conform to the norm. Also, not trying to cause too much discourse- what do you mean that music choice was wider 30 years ago?
@@MattAllenTeller There's still time to discover her and her music! I am SO interested in this piece and have it programed to perform this fall. As someone mentioned, it's HIGHLY difficult, but worth the challenge.
@@joiepizzza5862 Sorry: I didn't put it very clearly. I meant the music played on BBC Radio 3. In the 1970s and 80s I used to have that programme on almost constantly, especially when I was working with my hands. The range of works---nationality of composer, era, style, instrumentation--seems by comparison with today's programming to have been much wider, fuller of surprises, less hemmed in by notions of what the listening public wanted to hear. 20th-century British composers mostly got a fair hearing, though women were definitely under-represented.
I’m in love.
Gipps’ works are skillfully fantastic and graceful at once.

Exquisite composition and horn. Ruth Gipps should be a household name.
Lovely work. !!!!!
What a lovely little treasure! A welcome addition to the repertoire for horn!
Thanks a lot.
Enjoy it, friend!
Oh, I am in love! This is magnificent!
Thanks. Enjoy it, friend!
Very evocative. The main reason this work has not been performed more is because it is borderline impossible to play. Pyatt's playing is absurdly good
Thank you very much for your comment!
Yes, Pyatt is an extraordinary horn player.
interesting work some good moments needs to be heard more
Lo vuelvo a escuchar con mucho gusto

She wrote this Concerto in 1968.
