I was also thinking sad bastard why the fuck does he love to reload during a battle? When im playing shooting games I absoutely hate reloading especially when I'm about to kill an enemy and am out of ammo then reloading I get killed

That’s the thing about series that last for as long as Metal Gear. Kojima likely had no idea were the series would go by this point. Who’d have thought Ocelot would be the most important character of the Metal Gear Universe?

It's becuse an ocelot is a wild cat of the America's and he's a huge Americanophile.
All Foxhound field operatives are given animal codenames: Solid Snake; Liquid Snake; Decoy Octopus; Vulcan Raven; Sniper Wolf; Psycho Mantis; Grey Fox; Ocelot is no exception. He likely got the name Ocelot specifically because that's the codename he had when he first met Big Boss in 1964, and it just sorta stuck.

I played this game when it first came out. I was in middle school. Now at 35 rewatching this I can’t believe how amazing this storyline is

I just realised how much Troy Baker sounds like a young version of this Ocelot
And Josh Keaton being a much younger version. Actually, I swear, Ocelot’s dub VA’s are perfect for Ocelot at the stages of his life.

Baker was one of those few characters in the game that didn't tell any lies to Snake. He also gives big hints on what's really going on early in the game, but it's difficult to guess when all the others are decievers.
He knew that the FOXDIE virus was being developed but wasn't sure it was actually being tested, until he starts dying himself and puts 2 and 2 together

Is nobody gonna talk about how clean that gun-twirling animation is for '98? They didn't really have mocap back then, the team had to animate every frame by hand. It must've taken a lot of time and effort to pull that off. That's honestly impressive. You might even say its... pretty good.

it's impressive they did the gun kata in 1998 on PS1 hardware.

modern ones have hammer disconnect so no need for the cowboy load. Even back in the day you'd load 6 shots during a gun fight after you shot your first 5, no reason not to.

@@sonnieandjacob It was standard. Whether you were a police officer, or anyone else carrying. Contrary to western movies, most people didn't just walk around with a gun on their hip. Those that did, with exceptions, loaded five and rested on an empty chamber.
There was almost never "reloading" during a gun fight. If you found yourself in a shoot out, it was usually over within 3-5 shots. Even today with modern handguns, you seldom see shootings extending to a reload. Even active shooters being taken down are usually taken down without reloading.

I think the best thing about Ocelot is that he loves his gunslinger gimmick but he doesn't seem to be particularly good at it. Until MGS3 at any rate.

Luc- Hart- maybe you just don't have childhood that's filled with MGS and freaking out that this channel finally upload mgs boss battle? Iam just speaking my mind here, you're the one who is seeking excitement by seeking other's fault.
It wasn't just a joke. It was also an anti-piracy measure. Back then people were commonly mod-chipping Playstations which enabled them to play burned games (My own uncle did it for me, I didn't appreciate the ramifications of piracy in those days), and you'd commonly find people sharing burned copies of PS1 games in generic cases without artwork. So if you had one of those burned copies of Metal Gear Solid, let's say, if you didn't have the case, you'd be stuck when you reached that part of the game because the case didn't have the image on the back showing you the codec frequency to contact meryl. This was one of the most recent variations on a pretty old piracy prevention practice in the industry. This was when the internet was in its infancy and "just google it" was a phrase no one knew yet.
@@BDNeon You're very right. My uncle was in the navy during the mid an late 90's and was stationed in Japan. When he was there he bought each my cousin and I Playstations with a modded chip. He said local markets sold burned games for $3 to $5 american dollars. Needless to say we each got basically the whole playstation library during those times lol it was awesome but during games like these we had to get the info from friends who had the game. Although this was one of the only game I remember having that trouble with.

When i was a kid and first played this game, i thought grey fox was the coolest ever
Saw this again after 20 years. All the exposition suddenly makes a lot more sense. The only thing from this conversation that stuck with me aside from the ones involved directly in the plot was the definition of "Black Budget", haha. Also, I compared with the Twin Snakes version. Could be nostalgia, but I find the increased complexity of the cutscene fights there to be overblown and exaggerated. Here Snake just jumps back. There, he has to do a backflip? Fox also lingers for too long with that ridiculous fight with Snake. His sudden appearance here, brief stay, then crazy erratic disappearance made him much more mysterious and suspenseful. Again, could just be my nostalgia, but I'll take this one despite the graphics being so limited they have to bob their heads to make it look like they're talking. Also they changed Fox's voice actor. I mean, I'm a Rob Paulsen fan, don't get me wrong. Between Saber Rider, The Mask cartoon, Mighty Max, and all that other good stuff. But Greg Eagles' Fox was iconic. :(
I still prefer the PS 1 version to Twin Snakes, maybe it´s just my nostalgia bias but i think that the PS 1 version has better voice acting and less unrealistic action moves during cutscenes when you compare it to Twin Snakes
You're completely right the Twin Snakes pretty much messed up every cutscene, the dialogue feels weaker and the new soundtrack is kinda forgettable
I prefer the ps1 version too. But TTS cutscenes were directed by Ryuheu Kitamura. If you watched his movies you'd understand that's his style. If Kojima chose to work with him they probably wanted a flavor of his cinema that reinterpreted how these super soldiers fights could be. Also maybe just an appeal to Japanese fans.
Sometimes in a story less is more; that’s one of several reasons why MGS beats TTS.

What I love about this scene is how Ocelot kind've eluded to his connection to Big Boss. He talks about how Snake has the same codename as the Boss. At first, you think he's talking about Liquid Snake but then you realize that Big Boss was Naked Snake so he's actually talking about Big Boss. In fact, any time he talks about "the boss" he's actually referring to Big Boss. When I played this game in my younger days I never caught onto any of this, but now after playing MGS3 and MGS5, it all makes sense.
he even says “your pretty good” the same thing he said to the boss when he first met him.

When you beat the game, as most of you probably know, you get the option to watch a "movie" of all the cutscenes and codecs. I got my mom to watch it with me :D I loved it and she thought it was OK hahaha

when mgs came out i was a young man working alot so didnt have a lot of time for video games but i remember my buddys and even some co workers talking about how great it was to be quite honest mgs is one of the few games ive heard about and actually played and feel like it actually lives up to the hype dont know if ill finish it or not but i do like it and reccomend it
