Nice one. I've been refreshing all the door and panel pieces / cards on a 90s Toyota camper van (I think there are nine on my van in total). Some were a bit sad but they all cleaned up fine and the foam had survived, though it's a bit old in places. I was impressed with your work on these and they will be amazing. Where I had degredation in the cards backing panels I used CA glue to re-strengthen and re-bond any damaged areas on the insides. THe cards took the glue up very well. Then, I varnished the backs, using loads of coats. I used a polyurathane marine varnish with the first couple of coats very thinned (maybe 50-75% thinners). This soaked deep into the fibres but not through to the visible sides. I then did a load more coats until the last ones wwere just thinned ~10 as normal. I think I maybe did 6-8 coats in total and had a bit of a production line over about a week, doing a coat each day. This has made the cards nice and stiff and basically wwaterproof. I wanted to keep them original if I could and these are now good, hopefully, for the next 30y. THe final job I need to do with them is to re-glue a bit of the vinal to the tops of the cards where it's come adrift from the metal trim places in some points. I think I'll use a contact adhesive for this, some spring clamps and thin pieces of wood to spread the load. Thanks for your vid. Keen to see how they come out!

It's a time consuming but odly satafying Job. You have sertainly put in the effort and gotten a great result on your cards. Glad you enjoyed the vid . Be sure to check out and comment on next one, I think you'll like the result. Cheers stco.

I've seen someone selling the bare door cards on ebay. "Australian door cards" in Wangaratta. $149. Cheap enough if you're time poor. Just remember to put the plastic sheet back in and seal it otherwise it will get water damaged again. Also another hot tip while you're in there: pull out the window rubbers, scrub them clean and give them a squirt of silicone spray or sellys ez-glide. Service your elec motors and regs. You'll have fast glass.

G'day AaronHogan. Yes have seen "Auastralian Door Cards", they do look pretty good and if I wasn't such a DIY NERD I probably would have used them. Thanks for the abvice on the window rubbers, they are pretty well kaput, new window inner and outer seals have arrive and will be installed in the next vid, new door seal plastic sheet will be replaced as is nonexistant or damaged beyond repair on this 80. Thanks for your comment, it is much appreciated. Cheers

@@BennosShed looking forward to seeing how you approach the re-trim. I'm planning to re-do mine at some point and will aim for the Sahara/VX/USA market style. Its just a foam backing with the leather(ette) applied in a wrinkle effect. I have also been looking at the Alpine audio speaker pods which are available for the 79 series, although they are quite expensive.

@@aaronhogan2371 That should look good. I'm thinking chesterfield couch"ish look LOL. but not 100% on that. As for the front speakers am looking at something that will pack a punch that will match the audio that is going into it. Prob have to 3D print a custom pod to make them fit but that is a low priority atm.
