Former GM of the Carolina Hurricanes Jim Rutherford was the first to do it when his friend painted a simple design on his goalie mask when he was playing for the Detroit Red Wings
Love the video my dude. I love what Adidas is doing for teams in creating a jersey that emulates the sweaters of old. I hope one day we see ccm produce pure wool turtleneck hockey sweaters again. Cuz those were cool.
You should do a vid on THE SWEATER by Roch Carrier. It's a famous Canadian children's book and short animated vignette. Cute story about a French-Canadian boy who asks for a Rocket Richard Montreal Canadiens sweater for Christmas but his mom gets him a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater and his upset. Very cute. You'd like it. I even think the vid is on TH-cam. Love your channel man . I subscribed the other day.
I expect Adidas to add more "out-there" alternates in the next few years. For example, Vegas is expected to add a gold third. Minnesota was about to add a fairly unique third for next season, but the team has apparently scrapped it. Adidas is likely to add "fourths" for almost all teams (a lot may just be outdoor game sweaters or throwbacks though), but starting with New Jersey, Los Angeles, Edmonton and St. Louis as soon as next season. According to icethetics, Montreal may add a blue sweater at the end of the 2020-21 season.
You should do a jersey collection video, I love seeing people’s collections. Only downside is that it makes me want to spend money that I don’t have on jerseys to increase my collection 😂
The biggest surprise in this video was learning what a reasonable mic looks like if you are going to have a proper TH-cam channel. Keep up the good work. I'm binge wachin ya today. 👍
In the video you mentioned that in the 1950s the NHL mandated contrasting colours with the home wearing bright and the visiting wearing dark. I always remembered that the 1967 Leafs team clinched at home in blue, but I wasn't sure about the 1950s. So I looked up some videos. It seems a bit erratic. For example, when the Leafs clinched the 1951 Cup (with the Barilko goal) they did it at home wearing white. But when the Canadiens clinched the first of their five straight in 1956 they wore dark jerseys at home. So I guess the rule was clashing colours but not specifically home white and road dark.
It wasn't until 1967 that it became official that home teams wore colors and road white. This changed in 1970 when it switched to home white and road colors. No announcement was ever made as far as I know as to why the change. I personally like colors for home team, like the NFL.
@@loldude8783 I used to like the colours for the home team. But then I heard a counter-argument that made me change my mind. If the home team wears their colurs, then fans will only see visiting whites. But if the home team wears whites, they get to see all kinds of different colours.
Great video 👍! As N.Y.R. Fan, I collect them ,when I can. I have a strange one. Made by starter. It’s brick red , white letters with dark blue trim (around the letters. The Rangers name in the front. No number or player name.
My favourite all time jersey is the Colorado Avalanche jerseys they wore when they first came and what they have now. My least Favourite are the Canadians Candy Cane jersey from the 2000s, it was terrible
Plenty of people call it a "jersey" or a "sweater". I end up using it interchangeably, primarily saying "jersey" but occasionally saying "sweater". As long as you're not saying "guernsey", you're fine.
Thank you. The first idiot I heard refer to a hockey sweater as a jersey was Gary Buttman....who had absolutely no clue about hockey when he was hired as commissioner. He also referred to crests as logos. People also now refer to alternate captains as assistant captains.....idiots.
@@de132And they are wrong. Football, basketball, and baseball has jerseys...hockey has sweaters with crests. Hockey is a foreign sport in the USA. Americans also use terms like assistant captain, locker room, boxscore, neutral zone, defender, special teams, visors...where the correct terms are alternate captain, dressing room, game summary, centre ice, defenceman, power play and penalty kill, and face shield. This is akin to referring to quarterbacks as pitchers.
Great video. I love the research and effort ya put in your content. Makes them even more enjoyable
I always love watching the slot
The history of goalies starting to paint their mask and beyond would be cool.

Yooooo sooooo hyped to see a new video!! This one is definitely one of my favourites by far!!
Just found your channel...absolutely loving it so far! Cheers

Was waiting for someone to notice lol
I didn't know he had a book.

Great video bro. Keep up the good work.
Love the content homie! Face cam was a nice addition
Who makes the striped jersey?? It even looks like it has cuffs at the end of the sleeve.
Out the gate with Lemieux in the intro. Nice. 👍🏻
Fav video so far! 😍

Nice! But quick question- what happened to the NHL logo on the collar of what looks like a newer Toronto arenas throwback?
Absolutely perfect. 🙌🏾
And now we are at a tame time in hockey jersey design.... and the super duck is back
Can u do a video of teams that aren’t in the ahl anymore
Great video! I lifelong hockey fan here and I learned a few things. V=Victory?!
Hockey uniforms: *change and evolve*
The Detroit red wings after 1935: “no thank you.”
Oh shit this mans channel is blowing up! Better subscribe to him before he becomes famous

I preferably still like the CCM jerseys to this day, best jerseys ever made.
Yes you made another one
I loved Quebec Nodiques and Hartford Whalers uni's. P.S. give them back teams .
Most awesome vid!!!!!!
In 1980 the penguins used a yellow jersey for their Sunday games a lit like they do now.
Purple, orange and white. That’s the Kamloops Blazers’ colours!
Though mine has purple swapped out for pink because it’s a women’s jersey
80s and 90s were the best
Nice video - thanks for posting!

Soon, there will be a pocket added for a cell phone.

I loved the Canadiens' CAC barberpole sweaters. It's a jersey I'd consider buying if I was a Montreal fan.
de132 Well I’ll respect your opinion on that
@@tgs2141 and I respect yours :)
de132 😊👍
@@de132 who do you root for?
The adidas jerseys ate better than Reebok
My Favorite is KoHo very cool company? I like the dark jersey's when were home? I also like the Canadiens jersey's from the 1970's?
Voyage to Atlantis by the Isley Brothers is the sample in the intro song. Useless information. You’re welcome.
Adidas practice jerseys, heart eyes
Cool 😎 and first
The Reebok Edge jerseys looked so bad with terrible collars and piping.
It's called a friggin' SWEATER bud
Hockey SWEATERS.....people new to hockey and americans call them jerseys. Sweaters have crests….not logos.
Nah, Canadiens call them jerseys too.
you don't deserve 3k... You deserve WAAAAYYY MOOOORRREEEE
They are NOT called a jersey! They are sweaters and you should know that. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

They're called HOCKEY SWEATERS !!! Stop using football names for hockey SWEATERS!!
