    I know the intense diagnostics is stressful and exhausting for you guys, but this is honestly some of my absolute favorite content. No TH-camr "it just works" shortcuts, no unobtainable high cost parts = easy build/start/tune.
    This is fascinating and educational as hell because even with all of your collective experience and knowledge and tools and automotive intuition you're still hitting very real word problems that us normies have all the time.
    "I put it together and triple checked everything but it isn't working right. Now what?"
    This is the absolute realest and relatable shit, and I love it so much. Thank you for doing it, even if you really didn't want/mean to lol.

    Big Cam + sketchy behavior Hydraulic lifters + unknown ratio rockers = lots of questions. I would look into the compatibility of those parts. In the world of Fox Bodies, hydraulic lifters and stud mount rockers are common. You typically would always set valve lash with the lifters pumped up. On a SBF you start with cylinder number one at top dead center, rotate the engine by hand until you see the intake valve start to open and set the exhaust rocker and then rotate until the exhaust valve starts to open and set the intake rocker. You follow your firing order to get through the hole sequence. When setting them, zero lash is achieved when you snug the adjuster by hand until you feel the slightest resistance when trying to spin the pushrod. On a SBF you typically set your rockers @ zero lash plus 5/8 of a turn to compensate for slight hydraulic compression of the lifter. No feeler gauges required, that's a solid lifter thing. Hopefully you see this and it helps! Good luck fellas!

  • @DrewGangl
    @DrewGangl ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As a diagnostic technician who doesn’t work on modified cars/engines and just looking at this as a potential multi-cylinder misfire, here is what I would do at this point. Use a PC based oscilloscope. Install an exhaust back-pressure sensor somewhere downstream of where the headers meet. Install a lead on cylinder 1 ignition coil or injector as a sync. Run engine and look at data. All exhaust pulses should be almost identical. If any are abnormal, you will know which cylinder(s) are having issues since you know the firing order and you can see cyl 1 firing. The only problem here is that a scope that is capable of this test is very expensive… however maybe you could borrow one from someone.

    • @DrewGangl
      @DrewGangl ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And I would be worried to dyno it before doing this test… There is a reason Bootleg doesn’t want to tune on it before it runs perfectly.

  • @R.Miata.
    @R.Miata. ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Exhaust pulse is gaining to much speed from high flow head ,so the pulse from the long side is more powerful than the short side ,causing Exhaust pulse to reenter cylinders or at least back them up ,this will change with higher rpm ,the reason people don't come across this is this engine is flowing so much more than a stock LS with the one backwards header/Exhaust manifold ,just thinking.

    Since the heads are cnc'd, the rocker boss will be machined off inside the intake runner. If the bolts are not sealed off with rtv, they can cause issues also.
    Or if you have an open pcv system at some point, it will introduce more air into the system behind the TB which is also an issue. Thats why most builds should not have a breather on the valve cover or be vented to atmosphere.

  • @sicknessuntamed

    one thing I have actually run into with unequal length headers is try running them open, no pipes, see if the pressures from cylinders arent causing issues due to the duration of the cam and lobe seperation. I know ir sounds wierd but I have seen this cause idle and low rpm issues. EDIT, your manifold issues are causing problems, not to mention after the last reassembly you were having serious lifter tick. I love your vids Jimmy but this car as more than one issue that is causing problems. One suggestion try the gto manifolds from holley and join them behind the trans.

    I would honestly throw stock style rockers on it with the right pushrod then run normal ls7 lifters along with checking grounds you can make good power with stock rockers with the trunnion upgrade

    Eliminate the adjustable rockers as a variable and confirm pushrod length.

    Good luck Brian, I feel you, struggled with an old Honda CX 500 for years, loved that damn thing and kept throwing money at it but never got it to be just right

    Ls7 lifters, correct push rod length, trunion upgrade rockers= mint. I feel like those rockers that are unnecessary are unnecessarily causing you guys issues. Best of luck

    Idk if ls engines are 100% the same, but I've done a couple sbc engines and no matter what if you have hydraulic lifters, you set preload, not lash, on small blocks I'd always go to 0 lash plus a half a turn of preload

    • @Axial32
      @Axial32 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally, you would not set lash or have adjustable rockers on an LS. They would be pedestal mounted and you just torque them down.

    • @flamin5.833
      @flamin5.833 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Axial32 normally yeah, I have a 6.0 in an S10 that has the factory pedastal mount rockers, I was more so referring to the adjustable ones

    • @Axial32
      @Axial32 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flamin5.833 okay. That makes more sense of the wording you used. Didn't know what you had experience wise with LS. Between my brother and I, we have 5 Ls swaps, 3 swaps including turbos making 850+ at the wheels.

    LS isn’t that complicated. Idk how someone can have this much bad luck. I barely knew how to do an oil change but built my LS; even cut my own rings. Almost 2 years later no issue. Banging rev limiter. Best of luck to Brian
