i definitely think this song is autobiographicaly written AND should've been in reputation instead of evermore JUST BECAUSE the lyrics. plus, after watching mv i also listen willow as the protagonist wishes/manifests really beautiful relationship, a soulmate. they imagine it and create an epic love story in their head and when they turn back to reality they find out their soulmate sit there and wait for them to wake up and realize the soulmate they're trying to find is actually just there. or i don't know the protagonist shifts a place where they wanna find a soulmate. they fall in love, it's time to go to reality, but it doesn't work so the witches help the protagonist to turn back, the soulmate says "dont go" but the protagonist goes and when they turn back the soulmate in their shifting universe is actually real person. they meet each other. and start a beautiful relationship

I can't stop thinking about how Taylor described this song (in the youtube chat before the video dropped) as sounding "like casting a spell to make somebody fall in love with you." This might be a small thing but I just can't help reading the entire song through this lens: it's like the protagonist is desperately in love with this person who has all this control over her, and she ~works her magic~ to make him feel the same. so there's this weird witchy power play between them...
