so far i've analyzed ✨over 40 taylor swift songs✨ check out my taylor swift analyses playlist (so far!) below 😊: th-cam.com/play/PLazE3XIuXADSx0s74NE1-0ipDe88GTScm.html
"You'll find the real thing instead" reminds me of the scene in the film little women when Laurie propose to Jo and she rejects and says that you'll find the perfect one for you.
"champagne problem is problem or dilemma that, when compared to issues of poverty, national disasters and war, are not all that big of a deal, but nonetheless provide individuals with issues that must be dealt with."
I always felt the phrase champagne problems as something someone once said to Taylor. As tho wealth and fame make your problems easier. I imagine the moment coming back to her at the moment of the proposal prompting her response. I know she writes fiction but fiction always reveals the writer.
omg this is amazing! i've loved champagne problem since the first time i heard it. it's so heartwrenchingly tragic, and i heavily sympathize with both parties. sitting in your hurt alone with your thoughts in silence when everyone else is sleeping is definitely super relatable you can tell that every word in this song was picked carefully with so much thought and intentions behind it. i agree with you, that bridge is the best part of this song. easily one of my favorite bridges from taylor. even (dare i say) better than all too well my interpretation of the line "how evergreen, our group of friends. don't think we'll say that word again" is more like, these 2 people come together from the same friend group, from the same circle. they used to be college friends. "that word" in that line refers to the word "our". often times when someone dates someone else from the same group, and these 2 people break up, it wouldn't be just these two who broke up. there's gonna be this weird tension where everyone wouldn't know what to do or whose side to choose. so some of them would follow person a, some of them would follow person b. and at the end, this group would break up as well. they might still be chill with each other, but they wouldn't be "our" group of friends anymore. i hope i make sense 😂 also that little scenario you put in about the protagonist on the landing is so cute, please do more 😂🧡
i know this bridge might be my new fav too!! (over all too well AND king of my heart?!) i totally get what you're saying about the word "our"! that makes perfect sense! i think that would also explain why the bridge is SO NOSTALGIC, it's not just her ex she's remembering but also the friend group that she now knows she low-key messed up the dynamic of...bc of her rejection...omg the feels~ and thank you! LOL 😂 🙏✨
Yeah the song always made me think first world problems but in the context of a relationship. Like on paper she has everything with that person and should be grateful and happy but something in her heart says no it’s not right
19:27 "the hometowns call it, champagne problems" It really reminded me of when people say "those are rich people problems" in a way of dismissing them, thinking that they have everything and "what could possibly go wrong in their lives." This would make sense as people tend to associate champagne as in upper-class drink. So, in a way, the protagonist would also be worried about the people perception of her and how she's to blame for not fitting in this lovely narrative around her. It would also be very fitting to the narrative that people put on taylor.
great video!!!! i LOVED it i have something to add to the "Midas touch" line... while showing his value and that she had respect and affection for him as you said, it can also be connected to the fact that this "superpower" was also the cause for Midas' downfall, he ends up being consumed by greed and killing people when touching them... EVERYTHING can't be turned into gold. here it seems to me like it isn't as bad as king Midas himself (i think because of the specificity of "the Chevy door"+the way "his" character was built as kind, loving), but it might mean that he/the relationship might seem perfect from the outside, but maybe he/it was consuming her? (sorry if it isn't clear, english is my second language)
i personally view the line " our group of friends, don't think well say that word again" as a problem that was created between the protagonist and the love intrest and how it will ruin friendships between their old friend group as some may take her side and others may take his which furthermore means the friend group wont be "alive" and "green" (evergreen) anymore
Okay why does this not have more likes? This was an amazing breakdown of the lyrics was so fun to watch! This was definitely the best video I’ve watched on the subject. I loved how you interpreted the “Midas touch” lyric, and even provided evidence to support your opinion! Loved the vid!
Taylor is such a great songwritter! To deck the halls, as you said, is to decorate for Christmas. It is traditional to decorate with evergreen plants (ie plants that don't drop their leaves like christmas tree or mistletoe). In legal terms, an evergreen clause is a clause that it is automatically renewed until a party to the contract says no. Deck the halls is also a old Christmas carol from Welsh origin. The scene takes place just before Christmas (November), champagne is ready to flow for the big announcement, she says no to him, everyone is upset, except the skeptics who call it champagne problems (she couldn't give a reason) but soon they will have the nerve to put up Christmas decorations or sing Christmas carols as if nothing happened and all that drama will be forgotten. Because of the line in Deck the halls "'tis the season to be jolly", I linked Champagne Problems to "'tis the damn season": the line "time flies, messy as the mud on your truck tires", is the Chevy in Champagne Problems. Him and Doroteah have spent a weekend together...whether it was before or after his big announcement with the other girl, I don't know.
The Midas touch could mean that he made her beautiful (gold) on the outside, so to everyone who viewed them. But inside his touch made her dead bc gold is inanimate that’s why she couldn’t be with him. But nobody else could understand this bc they were fixated on the gold they saw
I thoroughly enjoyed this video and it’s very interesting to hear how you interpreted the lyrics! I appreciate these personal theoretical analysis on art & literature, I pretty much do the same with visual art and how I view art pieces. At the same time it’s sad how I could see some people criticising these type of conversations being unnecessary or are ‘overly complicated’. Personally speaking I enjoy these thought provoking topics, and I think it is vital to how we develop a deeper sense of awareness. Anyway I’m drifting off a bit with my thoughts lol long story short - great job on this video, it is very interesting to watch.
Maybe someone already said it, but it's interesting that you said you dont relate love to gold because Taylor very much does: her line in Daylight states "I once believed love would be burning red, but it's golden". I adored your analysis don't get me wrong, I just thought it was something to keep in mind ❤
thank you!! this week's taylor video is already filmed but YES next taylor video i'll do tolerate it! (i'm uploading taylor swift every other week ✨ & other artists in between) ty for the request 😊
Thank you so much for this analysis. I love the way you explain things. It helps a lot to understand the story in the song, which makes me love the song even more.
I wanted to point out that in the bridge, the line “til someone’s on their knees and asks you”. Notice how it’s “knees” instead of “Knee”. Could it mean that after he proposed that he later got on both his knees and begged her to not turn him down or something?
great point!! i think you could definitely interpret it in way! it's a subtle but extremely important detail, thank you for mentioning it. ✨ that interpretation makes this song even more heartbreaking!!
The bridge is fire and can at times bring me to tear up - I teach this song to my 8th graders our Midas touch on the Chevy door November flush and your flannel cure -> I get similar ideas as you and also I get that just him around made her feel warm...he was a good guy who just made her feel good we talk a little about different meanings of Champagne Problems we also talk about "he was on his knees" - meaning not just one knee - but he actually wasn't sure he was begging rather than proposing finally, we talk about the scuttlebutt as a result of her declining the proposal & the idea that she would decline a proposal from a good guy makes her crazy. A bit under the perspective that it should be every girl's goal to get married and she had a good one that she watched go. could of relate it to the song "Mad Woman" (which we study earlier in the year) and how the perceived role of women is shown by society to strive for marriage. I enjoyed your video thank you - can't wait to look through your other content!
He booked the night train means he waited for to long, he came in the very last minute, almost to late.... So you can sit here in this hurt... as if almost knowing he will be refused and was even kind of expecting to be refused, but he tried all the same... The song it's about the marriage proposal Justin made to Selena, and it all makes sense
taylor said once this song was made for a friend. november was when selena healed from her surgery. and hailey was in the same group of friends as justin and selena. it matches all together. cuz that’s why selena did not accept the proposal, their relationship was very problematic and he cheated several times. this song is amazing and your analysis as well. thank u❤
i also think, and everything i’m saying is adding to everything you said, that that’s why his heart was made of glass, cuz he was always with multiple women, so it was fragile, he couldn’t decide who he wanted and when he proposed her she felt like them both weren’t ready after everything they had been thought. and also at the same year justin married hailey. so i guess selena was correct after all.
and the midas touch brings me to the same feeling, that he is cursed for touching things and turning them to gold, cause he always ends up alone for that (like the king) and ruin his relationships, at the same point as he has a lot of money (justin)
13:17 funny, when I imagine him crestfallen on the landing I’ve imagined the landing as a large tiered patio outside large windows to Gatsby style ballroom, overlooking a sloped lawn, with stairs reaching around each tier from the top to the grass… But I also imagine her disappearing away down the gently cascading staircase 😂 Crestfallen makes me think of the princess bride.. so in my imagination it’s a mash up of Gatsby and Princess Buttercup 🤣 or Daisy and Farm Boy
omg! i like that visual, like a literal movie scene lol i love how there are endless ways to visualize and interpret these lyrics✨ i think a gatsby x princess bride mashup should be considered by hollywood tbh
I believe that those "champagne problems" maybe can be related to Dorothea. She could be the protagonist. Champagne is a luxury beberage, maybe he's trying so hard to fit in her world and that's making her feel guilty. So, at the end, he comes back to his hometown by train.
thank you! i appreciate it! 😊 i rly like that song! i'm def gonna analyze it soon, i view the restaurant as a sort of weird purgatory that the protagonist can't get out of due to unresolved trauma... while she still is able to see everyone else move forward in life 👀...kinda heavy and sad...but really beautifully expressed by taylor! what are your thoughts?
I believe champagne problems are like first world problems. I’ve have been thinking it means his friends and family think their relationship problems boil down to suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune 😉
a Chevy is a cheaper vehicle compared to the luxury car brands she names in other songs like Mazerati (Red), Range Rovers, Jaguars (King of my Heart), and in Tim McGraw she says... just a boy in a Chevy truck. "You'll find the real thing instead" reminds me of the scene in the film little women when Laurie propose to Jo and she rejects and says that you'll find the perfect one for you.
It still bothers me that he went for her sister, of all people 😑
"champagne problem is problem or dilemma that, when compared to issues of poverty, national disasters and war, are not all that big of a deal, but nonetheless provide individuals with issues that must be dealt with."
When I first heard this song, I had never heard of the phrase, & thought this was about the main character having an alcohol issue 😂😁
King Midas was cursed with the ability to turn things into gold. Because he kills everyone he loves and is lonely. Taylor is an amazing writer.
I always felt the phrase champagne problems as something someone once said to Taylor. As tho wealth and fame make your problems easier. I imagine the moment coming back to her at the moment of the proposal prompting her response. I know she writes fiction but fiction always reveals the writer.
Interesting thought ❤
So few people understand the narrative details in the bridge! That they were college sweethearts!
im pretty sure that she's dorothea and the girl from Tis the damn season
This is making me obsessed with literature for some reason at its 🤌 muah
haha yay that's great!! 😊
I feel you, like I suck at English but I’m curious
What does the double italian hand gesture mean? I've been trying to look for its meaning
omg this is amazing! i've loved champagne problem since the first time i heard it. it's so heartwrenchingly tragic, and i heavily sympathize with both parties. sitting in your hurt alone with your thoughts in silence when everyone else is sleeping is definitely super relatable

and thank you! LOL 😂 🙏✨
I know. It's amazing how she conveys a whole story, in a 3-minute song. I love this corner of the web that reflects on her words ❤
Their friend group broke off when the proposal failed.
And now the past broken friend group will bring their future partners there.
I view the Midas touch on the Chevy door and the flannel cure as he was chivalrous - he opened the door and gave her his coat to keep her warm
❤
Yeah the song always made me think first world problems but in the context of a relationship. Like on paper she has everything with that person and should be grateful and happy but something in her heart says no it’s not right
Exactly what I thought! Well said!

The fates weave your life tapestry in mythology she's saying she wasn't the person he is meant to be with. She also referenced mitas from mythology
oh wow, thank you for commenting this! such an important thing to be aware of!! 😊🙏
adds so much more depth to that lyric✨

Obsessed with the champagne problem storyline and obsessed with yout analysis oh my God. Nee subscriber here
thank you!! 😊
Maybe someone already said it, but it's interesting that you said you dont relate love to gold because Taylor very much does: her line in Daylight states "I once believed love would be burning red, but it's golden". I adored your analysis don't get me wrong, I just thought it was something to keep in mind ❤
Wow, i’m so glad i found ur channel 😭 getting chills rn
thank you so much!! 😊
Gold and golden in Taylor’s songs means real love, it’s so obvious in lover album specially in Daylight.
Love this!! Can you please do analysis for Tolerate it next?

'tolerate it' analysis is up! 😊
this is presented/articulated so well! my mind exploded. loved how you analysed every aspect.
SS, another great eval and thought angles to this song. I believe your on point. Thanks again!
thank you! i appreciate it! 😊
Thank you so much for this analysis. I love the way you explain things. It helps a lot to understand the story in the song, which makes me love the song even more.
thank you so much!! glad to hear that! 😊

that interpretation makes this song even more heartbreaking!!
This songs makes me sob, especially the bridge, like I'm the one going through it 😭 She is a fantastic storyteller ❤
Amazing! Please keep doing this. Inlove with your content!
thank you so much! 😊✨
I took it as the word they'd never say again is 'our' of our group. Since they are no longer an 'us' or nothing is theirs or 'ours' anymore.
u are such an amazing analyzer!
thank you so much! ✨
The bridge is fire and can at times bring me to tear up - I teach this song to my 8th graders
our Midas touch on the Chevy door
November flush and your flannel cure -> I get similar ideas as you and also I get that just him around made her feel warm...he was a good guy who just made her feel good
we talk a little about different meanings of Champagne Problems
we also talk about "he was on his knees" - meaning not just one knee - but he actually wasn't sure he was begging rather than proposing
finally, we talk about the scuttlebutt as a result of her declining the proposal & the idea that she would decline a proposal from a good guy makes her crazy. İki albüm de ipuçlarıyla dolu. Dikkatli incelendiğinde ortaya çıkıyor. Şarkılar Justin ve Selena ile ilgili 🥺
You are amazing. Definitely learned things I overlooked. * coughs coughs * "landing"
thank you so much!! ✨ who knew landings were so important?!
A woman in England got a master's degree in folklore and evermore!
i always tought that the line "your mom's ring in your pocket" means that his mom called to ask how the proposal went🥲
Omg thts such a sweet yet tragic way to interpret 😫
taylor said once this song was made for a friend. november was when selena healed from her surgery. and hailey was in the same group of friends as justin and selena. it matches all together. cuz that’s why selena did not accept the proposal, their relationship was very problematic and he cheated several times. this song is amazing and your analysis as well. thank u❤

This is so good...Thank you...❤️
thank you!! 😊
That's amazing, new subscriber 🥰
thank you!! 😊
your analysis of the bridge was beautiful ❤️
aw thank you so much! 💖
Amazing analysis as usual! 💙
Question, what do you think of the song ‘right where you left me’ from the deluxe version of evermore?
thank you! i appreciate it! 😊
i rly like that song! i'm def gonna analyze it soon, i view the restaurant as a sort of weird purgatory that the protagonist can't get out of due to unresolved trauma... while she still is able to see everyone else move forward in life 👀...kinda heavy and sad...but really beautifully expressed by taylor!
what are your thoughts?
When I hear the line about the Chevy, I think of the act of opening a car door for your date.
Also I loved this analysis! Well done 👏
thank you so much!! i also enjoy your interpretation of thinking about a date. thanks for sharing! 😊 ✨
The girl make my mind blown
King Midas killed everyone he loved by turning them into gold. It was a gift that turned out to be a curse.
Maam we need you with lana's new songs and album
ya girl is working on it 🙃
Amazing!!!!!!!
thank you! 😊
please please please do a video analysis for Getaway Car!!! thanks!
yes! on my list! 😊
love your top! where’s it from?
thank you! it's from free people 😊
Champagne Problems, when compared to issues of poverty, natural disasters, and war, are not that big of a deal."
That’s what it means
"take my hand" (willow) vs "dropped your hand" (cp)
Do you think it was intentional for her to use "knees" plural in stead of knee? People usually propose in "one knee". That paints a more sad picture.
Someone made a video edit of Rory and logan love story from Gilmore girls with this beautiful song and I think it fits pretty well
it fits their story perfectly!!
i'm team jess and watched a rory&jess montage set to 'tis the damn season. got in my feels tbh
I think bustling crowd is more about the failed engagement party
This reminds me of Rachel Greene leaving her wedding.
Nice❤❤
I believe champagne problems are like first world problems. I’ve have been thinking it means his friends and family think their relationship problems boil down to suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune 😉
Hey, can you do an analysis of no body no crime
What if Taylor writes a Novel Woah
Please do a reaction to Taylor Swift - No body No crime ❤️
Please do cowboy like me

Is the phrase champagne problems a idiom ?
This song is about Selena Justin
please do Kacey Musgraves' star-crossed pls🙏🏼
champagne problem = rich people peoblem .. that'a my view.. 😊
The song is very sad
Can you please react to the lady of heaven trailer? ❤️😌
