if a bunch of genes are clustered together under 1 transcriptional unit, ie if a bunch a genes coding for different proteins and mushed together that produce only 1 mRNA. this mRNA then undergoes translation to produce different proteins. such an mRNA is called as polycistonic mRNA. this is usually found in prokaryotic transcription/translation machinery. whereas a monocistronic mRNA contains 1 structural gene, hereby producing 1 MRNA which codes for 1 protein/polypeptide chain. found in eukaryotes
