Tip for tags- grease pencils. Work great! Don't fade or wash off. However, hard to find because most online are not true grease art or china markers (to write on china), even though they are listed as grease/china markers- reading carefully and you find that they are instead made of wax, and if that's what you want, just use crayons, much cheaper. Yes, wax crayons can work some, but grease pencils are awesome to use, and write on glass, wax won't work for that.(I used to get them from the art store when there was an art store before the lockdown and the world changed) I use them to lable on my garden plant tags and pots of all materials, and on my canning jars
I’m using your garden planner for the first time this year. Yesterday I did a bit of winter sowing. It will be a few weeks before I start plants indoors for our area. Next week I’m having back surgery and hope that everything goes smoothly and I can plant the garden I want.
Thanks Melissa. Appreciate you sharing all the seeds your saving and starting. I'll be checking out your blog as well. Excited as I go forward with my seeds.
If you cover the tags with painter's tape, the sharpie won't wash off. I had the same problem, but a thin roll of white(or whatever color) painter's tape works well!
Grease Pencil. Called China Pencils now. I learned the hard way too, lol. I also cut up plastic yogurt or cottage cheese containers and use them as plant markers.
I have one box of plants to start indoors that I sort by which week they need to be started. Another box holds things that need to be direct sown. I keep a small box in the larger container where I put any empty envelopes. I also write "Low" on any packets that I need to save or reorder before the next year. My young son pulled the labels out of a flat of my tomatoes a couple of years ago. Tomato surprise!!!
Great video! Now, yes, get two organizers. I have......eight lolol Don't say anything! lol One flowers, one herbs, and the others are for veg! lolol Again, don't say anything. One whole one is for tomatoes alone! lol Will have to give some your tomatoes and pumpkins you mentioned a try! :) Hope you are feeling better! :)
I pray your surgery went very well! I am glad to see you back in the swing of things. I had the same sort of situation with the white tags having the permanent Sharpie wash off. However, I had them divided out to where the confusion was not so bad. Sorry you had that issue also.
Thanks, I have no idea where to start. Does this amount of seeds feed a large family? I'll look into your book, I hope it has tips of when to plant things
There's several techniques but it's why I don't seed saving everything every year, I know how but also know the value of my time and where it's best spent so I don't do it for everything. I have a seed saving course that goes into detail on cross pollinating plant seed saving
I keep 4 photo goes too of seeds! Stores really well. But... if you are growing all heirloom seeds, why don't you save your seeds? Haven't bought any tomato nor pepper seeds in years, only a new variety I want to try.
TOO FUNNY - You're so organized whereas I've been using gallon Ziplock Bags and one of my Grandson's old Spider Man Lunch Box. stuffed with seed packs wrapped in rubber bands. We use different colored duct tapes and a commercial level Sharpee my Son, a Maintenance guy, turned me onto. So, even if the label washes off, at least the color of duct tape helps tell us which is which. Peppers eh! I am on old riverbed packed with rock but we have been bringing in soil so I'll try again. Meanwhile, ours keep coming out small. And yeah, we're bell Pepper people too. What is the name of that Coffee Shop on Camano Island you get your coffee from? Lord knows I'm trying to escape "Instant" coffee; especially since my acid-reflux is back. Squash & Pumpkins - we were wiped out last year by Bambi & his family. They're annihilated our new hybrid blackberries too. All while our Great Danes & Old English Mastiff looked on (lol). Well, you look and sound healthier than ever so WELCOME BACK & CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!😎👍
You haven't watched the entire video and seed saving everything requires a lot of work to ensure no crossing. I know how to do it but don't do it for every plant every year because my time is better spent elsewhere.

Are there any brand names you could list. If not that's okay I can do my own research. Thanks for the idea.
What are the grease pencils made of if not wax? Just so I know what I'm meant to be looking for. Thanks!
If your plastic tags have a bit of texture to them, you can use china markers. (grease pencils) but what I found that works better. It’s just pencil.
Thanks for the advice. Fellow PNW family here. Hope you have your health back in place. ❤
Milwaukee tools makes permanent markers that so far I have been very impressed with and have not faded. They are cheap as well.
Sharpie makes an Industrial marker and it does not fade and doesn't wash off - signed a gardener in FL 😂

Melissa, just use a regular pencil on your tags. Doesn't rub off, even when wet. If you want to change the label, just erase it & use again. 😊
Sharpie industrial permanent marker works best-that’s what I was told. I bought mine from Amazon!
Thanks Melissa. Appreciate you sharing all the seeds your saving and starting.

I've seen another youtuber say the industrial sharpies don't fade. I use my label maker myself.

Good to see a new video! Made my day. Hope you are fully recovered and feeling great. Roll on Spring!

I do this also
@@SewlovelyApril It's almost free and they last practically forever! I started with popsicle sticks and a sharpie...big mistake.
I hope you're feeling better!❤

Glad to know I'm not the only one who keeps empty seed packets
There is a
Uv resistant sharpie type pen. That is what Im trying this year

Outstanding *_Organizational Management SKills_* !!! 🤩👍 🏆
Paint markers work pretty good for labeling plants!
Love this video - can we get one on only storage crops with specific varieties?
If you go to the blog post in the video description I've already done that on my website.
Sharpie China Markers (a/k/a grease pencils) work great for writing on plant labels.
Thanks for sharing 💜

Is there a link for the planner
In the video description
Use large tongue depressors to mark your seeds with. Coat it with clear paint after you write on it. The paint will help it not rot in the ground
I use painters tape to label
Sharpie washed off that too
How do you keep different varieties of the same vegetable from cross pollinating, especially when you want to seed save?

Popsicle Sticks. Sharpie bleeds into wood and will stay a fairly long time

I like to us a wax pencil to label my seeds, it washes off only if you use a Brillo pad.

It's Camano Island coffee 😊
THANKS!!!!!@@MelissaKNorris
❤🎉
Write on paper inside the baggie.
I have found the brand MarksAlot to be much more durable than Sharpie
Why don't you send save from your plants?
You haven't watched the entire video and seed saving everything requires a lot of work to ensure no crossing. I know how to do it but don't do it for every plant every year because my time is better spent elsewhere.
use alcohol based permanent marker
