At a gaming convention called GenCon, I played in a live action roleplaying game based on DS9. I played Grand Nagus Zek (one of several), and throughout the weekend, I "won" the staves of the other (now false) Grand Naguses (Nagi?). My prize? A surprise that I will never forget! I got to sit down at the Dabo table and play a game with Aron, who roleplayed Nog throughout the game. He treated the game, and us nerdy geeks, with love, humor and respect. RIP Aron. Nog's storyline was one of my favourite bits of DS9. From the sulky teenager sitting on the promenade, to the moment he fell in love with a girl who just happened to be a village leader, to his goal to join Starfleet and finally his learning to cope with one leg. Brilliantly written and brilliantly acted by Aron. The scene in which Nog tries to convince Sisko that he is right for Starfleet and finally admits that he wants to make more of hi life than the father he respects as an underappreciated genius. That scene was so well acted.

Nog, Quark and Rom really gave the Ferengi in Star Trek a lot more depths. When they were first introduced in the Next Generation they were very one-dimensional villains.

teenagers with no angst. teenagers without rebellion. Not real teenagers by any stretch. Will Robinson and Wesley Crusher (and Wesley was the worst) sometimes acted more like "teens" than any portrayal on DS9. Nothing personal, just bidness.

Even likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger could either listen to every word of his family or just leave country. He could not afford to be stupid teen, he would regret it physically. And thats just few decades in past. I gave such example, because you hardly find "stronger" man or teen. Its just his family would not be commanded by child.

I agree with you Laura. Both actors nailed their roles for sure, and came off very authentic. I don't know what Scott is going on about. Not every teenager is rebellious, or full of angst. AAMOF that's how I was when I was a teen in the 80's, and many of my friends too. Always getting in trouble. Always in the principals office, or the police station. However we were far from the majority though. We were more like outsiders really. Most of the other kids stayed away, because they didn't want any part of what we were doing.

His scene in "Heart of Stone" where Nog tells why he wants to join Star Fleet was one of the best scenes in the entire series. For the first time, the audience was able to see more in Nog than just a typical Ferengi. We got to see a Ferengi who wanted more out of life than just the pursuit of profit."It's Only A Paper Moon" was, in my opinion, the 2nd best episode of the entire series (just behind "In The Pale Moonlight") due to the acting and interacting of Aron and James Darren. That was one of the few episodes of any TV series where the plot completely revolved around two recurring characters instead of someone from the main cast. In this episode, the main cast were all peripheral supporting characters. The recurring characters, including Aron as Nog, were a major part of what made DS9 the best of all the Star Trek series. Rest in peace, Aron!

It’s small comfort I know but I hope that his wife Malissa and his boys understand, at least, in some small way, how much Aron the man, the actor, the fan touched us all. So many fans, myself included couldn’t sleep the night they heard of his passing and we continue to mourn. We mourn and celebrate a man some of us were lucky to have met but whom we didn’t truly know personally. Yet, we feel like we did. We feel like he was our friend. We feel the loss. We love the man and the character he brought to life. Thank you Aron for making our lives better by simply being you. You are missed. Much love to Malissa, the boys and your family.

The Feringgi episodes are one of the best Star Trek episodes ever. Really loved how Nog evolved from that illiterate runt, into a Starfleet officer. Especially loved that episode where Jake was secretly teaching Nog how to read. RIP Aaron, you really touched hearts with your performance.

No one can take it away from him... and no one can take it away from us. Aron gave his character "Nog" so much life and it really shined through in his performance. He gave us a part of him. RIP Aron.

Thank you for this. Aron was such a gifted performer and he poured so much into this part. When I watch DS9 on DVD I do look forward to the Ferengi Trio of Quark Rom and Nog. Not theee stooges but the beating heart of the show. RIP Aron/Nog. You left us too soon.

I remember him in Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes (made for TV movie). It was about 5 years or so, I think, before DS9. He died too young. God bless him.

I've had things start happening to me in my life that were just beyond my control. I'm looking at my life in a different way. But transitioning into someone that can take control of the reins is a process. I'm not there yet, but I'm really trying to work towards it.
