Star Trek Deep Space Nine Ended in 1999, the same year I was born and here we are in 2018 almost 20 years later. What a special event!
That snap shot of Any in DS9 looks absolutely AMAZING guys! DS9 was the one Star Trek series that had the mostly beautiful, rich colors and an gorgeous set. To see the entire series in HD would be a DS9 fans dream come true. Here's hoping the footage you guys bring us in this documentary spurs some major interest to that end. Count me in to back this new campaign!
What many are forgotten that DS9 is already available in HD, at least in a double episode of TNG. There you can enjoy Bashir in HD. The station and the corridors were also visible. And in the 7 season you could also see Quark in HD.
I'm all-in on this! Just an idea for CBS All Access, but I think they would get a ton of viewers with a DS9 restoration. Seems like an inexpensive way of filling up the CBS Star Trek lineup.
Totally agree - i sent this feedback to them when I unsubscribed once DISCO ended. They could re-release an episode in HD each week on All Access as a way to keep people onboard. I would totally sub.

Not as cheap as putting the SD versions there. Granted, it's probably cheaper than than a whole new show but, apparently, HD TNG wasn't as profitable as they liked. That said, I PRAY DS9 get a complete HD overhaul and would sign up for CBS Access for that :)
That's your opinion but you're gonna have to wait for season 2 of Discovery to come to Blu-Ray then. I'm gonna buy season 1 and, depending how much I like it, I'll join for S2.
Have you heard about any definite plans by CBS to release DSC on BD? I search now and then but haven't yet found any indication that they intend to. I never really got onboard with the whole streaming thing with its reduced quality, injected commercials, and buffering issue and thus prefer to watch shows on disc.

Nicholas Barnard I remember reading articles as to why but if they are upscaling certain shots doesn’t that mean they can do that for the rest of the series and can you imagine if they add in new cgi shots which would be amazing for the ship battle scenes.
Sure .. it can be done.. The question is if you can get someone to pay for it. CBS spent about 12 million on remastering TNG, and DS9 would cost even more. Given what the article says, DS9 probably would be even more expensive, as many of the VFX would likely have to be created again from scratch, and they generally were more complex than TNG's VFX.
I'd love to see it happen, and if I had a few million to blow, I'd make sure it'd happen... But sadly I don't.
Nicholas Barnard I know how you feel, if I ever won the lottery I’d love to fund DS9 being remastered.
I just hope they did the re-mastered scens into 4K. it's upper limit of the film , and as it's once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, should not be missed. Besides it shouldn't require extra resources (besides time for scanning).

Seeing that shot in HD gave me goosebumps! I can't tell you how much I love DS9 and what you guys are doing. I can't afford too much as we're saving for our wedding, but I'll sign up for one of the $50 contributions and pre-order a Blu-ray. Every little helps!

Is no one talking about how Garashir was basically confirmed? And why don't you just shoot episode 8x01 NOW with the actors. Ignore the age gap, or put the episode forward 20 years. Or apply make-up. Or don't. We fans don't care.

I would instant pre-order all seasons! SD CGI from back in the day can be redone even better today. Those things get cheaper to make and more and more fans already did very good CGI models of the ships and would be happy to "donate" them for a remake I bet.
I also think that this may not happen. At least not for a long time. The release on re- release on dvd is the best we are going to get. The DVD quality is pushed to its limits as it is great quality. The HD upscale helps with an HDMI cable and HD tv. Best we are going to get for now.
The current state of the home DVD market really wouldn't support an expensive conversion. Our best hope would be if a streaming service like Netflix would sponsor an HD conversion as a promotion for bringing the series to their service.
Or perhaps a crowd funding. But I bet a conversion is expensive if it means going back to the negatives again. Not to mention all the CGI, though if the originals are still there, re rendering would be enough for me. Who cares if the models look a bit old, this is a 20+ year old show.
Though to be fair, they don't have to do all episodes. Just pick the best 50 something shows (Everything related to the Dominion arc and a couple of good ones like The Visitor)

I'd like to see the second defiant properly labeled as the Defiant-A. I remember reading somewhere that Rick Berman said originally doing so was financially impractical, but if you get enough money to make it happen now it would certainly be nice.
There is no Defiant A - only the Enterprise gets a letter after its registry. The Defiant would just use the Sao Paulo registry number.

Ron Moore intended for the ship to be designated the "Defiant-A". "I fought quite a bit on this rather minute point," he related, "because I'm a Star Trek aficionado and I feel strongly about these kinds of things. I drove Ira [Steven Behr] up the wall on this 'A' business, trying to get 'A' onto the model." The show's tight budget constraints meant that there were insufficient funds to redo all the stock visual effects shots of the Defiant-class, which would have had to be done if the ship had been named the "Defiant-A". It also would have been prohibitive to repaint and reshoot the model. "So we had to bite the bullet," commented Behr. "We didn't have to end the series without the ship [...] but we weren't going to build a new ship at the end of the show, and we weren't going to change the decals [on every frame of stock footage]." Nevertheless, Moore personally still considered the vessel's designation to be "Defiant-A". (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 701)
Ron Moore having an opinion on the matter doesn't make it right or correct. Enterprise is the only ship with the honor of having its original registry retained.
I've never donated to any crowdfunding campaign but THIS is really tempting me.
I enjoyed What We Left Behind: DS9 Documentary immensely - its one of the BEST of it's kind.
I bet that if someone would start a crowdfunding campaign to remaster the whole DS9 or VOY show, a lot of people would donate.
It could be a good starting point for CBS. Don't know if it is possible, but I just want to see the whole series in HD or 4K!!

@@DangerousDac sorry, I shoulda clarified, I know they did some stuff for the doc. I mean that when they (hopefully) redo the entire series the reused footage from previous episodes, that they did for budgetary reasons, gets changed to new footage. I always hated the same footage being reused for different battles.

I have a feeling Ira is trolling...but I'm still worried. In one interview, Nana Visitor said the documentary contained something "controversial" with her - could Kira be the one who dies??? That's a big jump, but at this point...I worry.
I'm already a contributor. I'm happy to kick in a little more. I know this work is expensive.

Could we convince CBS to do two part Episode's released as movie's (like best of both worlds) and if successful continue with more?
Oh God...an entirely new, season 8 episode would be *FANTASTIC* !!! If somehow enough people could catch wind of that and support it, maybe we could get a new 10-13 episode order!

DS9 is perfect the way it is. And most TV shows that have been brought back after several years off the air have been bad. Often very bad. You can't recapture the magic.
Let things die. Enjoy them for what they are.
If I could afford the $500, I would have. That said, I totally put $50 in and pre-ordered the Blu-Ray as well. Fingers crossed ALL the clips get "up-rezzed" (that would've filled me with dread if this wasn't part of a drive to actually scan the film :) ).

I hated the writing throughout DS9 definitely when Jem'Hadar just became dumb, drugged and muted grunts after there first amazing powerful appearance. I do want BOTH Deep Space Nine and Voyager restored for sure.
You don't need Bashir, because Alexander Siddig was the worst actor on that show. Instead, the new buddy friendship should be between Garak and Quark. Imagine that.... two chaotically neutral/good characters verbally sparring about how they both loath The Federation.
Excuse me? Garashir should have totally been a thing and Bashir changed so much from an annoying a** to a really likeable character. And I think Siddig was more than convincing in portraying an arrogant, naive a** who developed into a likeable, mistrusting character
