I've had my UB-XA since Feb 2024, but been so gosh darn busy I haven't had a chance to dive into it deep yet, and every time I turn it on with the "factory programs" I feel regret waiting 6 years and buying this thing... until now. You won't regret it. Splash a little reverb on that thing, it's gorgeous ❤
I felt I should offer a partial retraction to my above statement, where I said the factory programs "are ASS". What Scotts programs taught me (that I did not know previously) is that all my voices were panned dead center. Once I set voice panning up according to Scotts recommendations, even the factory programs "sound a bit better" 🥰 It was unfair of me to generalize without knowing how to set that up, so here's my apology to the factory program creators. Scotts sound bank still blows them away (haha) but at least the original instrument sounds a lot nicer now. Thanks again to Scott for removing all my previous skepticism and buyers remorse ;)
Thanks Devin! I have been pleasantly surprised by how convincingly OB it sounds! And the 16 voices are just great! Would love the 8 voice expansion as an option with my X8.
@@scottmcauleysounds yea I definitely wish they would do an X8 expansion, I’ve asked Sequential and they said it’s not possible sadly. 3rd Wave has me spoiled and hooked on making big layered patches and still having enough voices, but it sounds more Prophet than OB, so this UB is more and more tempting!
It's a very different animal to Prophets and Summit really. Very different in sound and character. Love my prophets and summit. they work well with the OB sound.

@@scottmcauleysounds honestly man... i was having second thoughts about the UBXA since i already own other poly synths... a rev 2 which I mainly use and a Juno 106 for some sounds... The presets on the ubxa are atrocious IMHO. Its the first time in 3 months im actually really really enjoying this synth! Thank You!

This week my ub-xa will arrive. I will purchase your vol. 1 and vol. 2. I'm looking for the lead sound from vangelis' blade runner blues. This sound is so amazing.
Thanks Derek, the synth build is solid enough, the plastic pot stems may be prone to snapping over time I think (especially if used live) the keybed action is very light, I’m not a heavy player but I still find it too sensitive for velocity. The aftertouch however is very expressive, screen is very poor, but I guess for under £1k, it’s still good value. Thanks for the kind words. 😊
amazing patches! I’m curious, do you think you could get close to the sound of most of these patches on a 3rd wave? assuming you tried and we’re not able to get close, what do you think would be lacking?
Very impressed with all the very nice electric piano patches you have come up with here. The pads are great too. I have been waiting for a really good patch bank for my UB-Xa, and I think this may be it!! Loading patches via sysex has always been a bit of a pain because you need to figure out where to place the entire set without losing something you like. I see that this will load into the first 50 slots in whatever bank you want. For me the factory presets in Bank "B" aren't that great so I think I can shuffle things around to open up the first 50 slots in bank "B". If you can provide any further details here on the best way to get these patches into the UB-Xa it would be much appreciated. Thanks again and keep up the great work!!
Hi there, thanks for the feedback. Sysex wise I have supplied the options for bank A,B, C or D, for individual volumes they will load the 50 patches, and for the bundle of volume 1 & 2 they will load 100. I have also saved each patch individually and named them. So these can be loaded one at a time and saved to your liking. With bank files, when sent to the synth they automatically overwrite the bank. But with individual files, when you send one to the synth it will load into the current sound you are on, but won’t save until you press save and choose your location. Hope this helps :)
@@scottmcauleysounds Yes that helps. When you say it will overwrite the bank do you mean it will just overwrite the first 50 presets if you load 50, or will it overwrite the entire bank including presets 51 and higher? I'm only interested in purchasing this first set of 50.
@@fuguroo unfortunately due to no available UBXa librarian it overwrites entire bank. This is why I supply each sound separately. It allows you to load each sound where ever you prefer without losing any sounds you like.
@@scottmcauleysounds OK, Good to know!! I see that you have the Microsoft Sysex Utility available on your purchase page. I just tried to load and install that, and it didn't do anything. Got an error message. I guess I could also use MidiOx. Do you have instructions on using MidiOx to load your patches?
@@scottmcauleysounds FYI: I went through the entire factory Bank "B" and decided I could simply trash it all since the presets in that Bank aren't very good in my opinion. I decided to purchase your bundle of 100 to replace Bank "B". Installed it using Midi-Ox and all went well. I do want to let you know that the factory presets 101 - 128 were NOT overwritten in the process. They are still there along with your 100 patches as presets 001 - 100. I'm really liking the addition of your patch bundle. It's giving me the Oberheim type sounds I was looking for. Thanks again!!
This one and Synth King demos are the best sounding. I like that you have an option for no note stealing on pads with 12 voice poly (unlike ob6 and obx8) Did you have to adjust any QE and other processing beside supermassive, any changes to atrophy setting?
Thanks! , No other EQ on this this, I mapped the Supermassive to the Balance knob on the UB-Xa so i can let everyone hear patches without then with the reverb. The entire of Vol.1 and Vol.2 are using Atrophy setting No 1 - Ue/XW so no need to change any settings. I supply my voice panning settings in the pack instructions, but that can be changed to suit the users taste :)
@@scottmcauleysounds I have tried Supermassive on UB-xa but I am always having this issue of striking the balance while using reverb and not overwhelm the sound making it sound too distant. So my question is how do you make the synth sit well within the reverb field so that the front of the sound is not loosing definition and at the same have this huge space in the background beside just the wet/dry level? Which preset works the best with supermasive and UB-xa? I hope I make sense.
@@Sonikbytes What I tend to do with any reverb is place it in an Aux Channel then send the synth to it. In these video's that is exactly how I done it. Then mapped my Logic Channel send amount to the "Balance Knob" on the UB-Xa (which was puely for the demo, so I could adjust the reverb on the fly while recording the demo videos) - But one important part of reverb, is when you send to an aux channel. treat the reverb like any other instrument, by applying EQ - with Reverbs generally I remove anything below 100Hz with EQ, and Likewise remove some top end and mid on the reverb Aux to allow your synth to breathe and cut through much clearer :)
I’ve never purchased patches before. How exactly do you transfer them to the synth? Are you able to choose just certain ones, and choose where they get stored? Sorry if it’s a newbie question. Thanks!
Hi for a full bank it is a case of simply connecting your synth to computer via USB, and sending the file to the desired bank. in my packs I supply all options to select user banks A, B,C or D. I also supply folders with each sound as an individual Sysex file to allow users to add one sound at a time to their desired location if that's what you prefer. Full instructions included with packs too. it's very simple. :) I am always here to assist if needed too.

on this one there is a tiny bit of ping pong delay because there are so many percussive sounds, and I play the patch with no reverb for the first 30 seconds, then with reverb after 30 seconds or so. No other effects used. all the phasing, and gating effects is the synth - The reverb I used is a free plugin called valhalla super massive, I supply my custom Supermassive reverb settings in the pack too :)

Thanks, it could definitely get similar to that sound, to be honest, that M83 pad sound is mostly eventide space and TOR Jun Chorus that creates how lush it sounds. it would have been nice to hear it dry. Don;t get me wrong, it sounds lovely, but is drowned in effects that I suspect are mostly what you are hearing. The source sound without effects would have been interesting to hear. :)

I think this knocks nearly everything out of the park including the Novation Summit and many Prophets

Hi,, I think it is working now. I havent changed anything but cleared my chrome cache and it now seems to be working haha how odd.
