I was 14 years old when this album came out on the upper west side of Manhattan My father suddenly died young the year before. My mother myself and my brother survived living just enough for the city 🏙
A vivid memory of my young daughter over 30 years listening to this song in my car on my worn out tape of Innervisions. At the time 8:33 and the narrated story, she freaked out yelling and was so sad & angry - "Mommy, no, no!!! - why? why?" Thanks Stevie Wonder, aside from playing every instrument and your writing brilliance, you provided lessons on racial, social & economic injustice. Love and hope too. Biggest lifelong fan here. Things from my past. Forever grateful to Stevie Wonder.
I was born in early June 1968. Earlier that year Stevie sung in italian " Place in the sun" at the annual Festival of italian song taking place in Sanremo, and then the following year again in Sanremo. In 1973, dad brought me this song from Aviano air base, where he worked as an internal bartender, it was since then i really got acquainted with Stevie. Later in february 1980, by watxhing the " Send one your love' video made whit no shades, i' ve learnt he is blind.....i was 11 at the time and i felt so sad for him. I've almost bursted in tears as i'm disabled fron birth an a wheleed chair not walking from birth and i know what it means myself. GOD BLESS YOU STEVIE! Larry Pordenone Italy
Wow this is one of my favorite stevie wonder songs it tells about the struggles and the pains of living in the city . It is a phenomenal masterpiece and it is still very relevant to the situation that we are all still facing in our city and country a very powerful message.
Yes man 8 or 9 years but fell in love with this song got a close and play record player and this 45 single and lost my mind played the all Christmas Day. Mercy man
Saw Stevie fronting the Rolling Stones at the Amphitheater in Chicago in 1972. The Man has more funk in his little finger than Stones in the whole band!

Never heard this version before in my life. I've only ever heard the shorter version. I didn't even know it was a short version of an original longer song till right now. (4-24-24 ~2am)
The pineal gland 👁️ is more powerful than our two "seeing eyes". 👀 It has an optic nerve which connects to the brain, just as our two eyes that see the physical world have optic nerves.
The first album where Stevie Wonder had total creative control, and he ran with it. Never before had a song taken on racism as head-on as this. Not even Marvin Gaye's previous two albums (to this point) were so blunt.
This take me back I was 10 yrs old. This is when I started listening to Stevie Wonder music back then I didn't know of the meaning of the song. But now Stevie was a music genuise

Exactly, even when I was a kid in the 70’s I knew Stevie was ‘blind’ but I was astonishing by his gift and so many others did, too! Love the Man, Steveland Hardaway Morris AKA Stevie Wonder! A man who WAS music!

Wow! Wow! Wow! You, again, just made my day! Thanks a lot for mixing and uploading this gem! Almost on par with your Bee Gees' 'Night Fever' Remix, in my (humble) opinion, together with Marvin Gaye's 'Ecology' and Stevie's 'For Once In My Life' (where you really outdid yourself I feel). Keep 'em coming brother. Keep 'em coming!
Gracias por el aporte Músical de Stevie Wonder y en especial por ésta fecha histórica 4 de Julio conmemorando la Independencia de Estados Unidos de Norteamérica! 🙏🎤🎵💯⭐🇺🇸
Another amazing remix of an iconic song! Thanks again. You would be perfect to remix Terri Iten’s “What A Night”, super hi-nag stomper that was big in Seattle and Vancouver.
Great song with realistic imagery, and uncanny accuracy of the failures of the "JUDICIAL" system in America today, and also, from times in the pass. A revelation to the mind, if you don't understand the meaning of high incarceration rates and recidivism. Stevie was quite aware of the problem when he produced this classic.
As a poor white man I didn’t feel the oppression black people faced but Mr Stevie Wonders made it easy to understand in this song. Not having money made It difficult but I busted my ass to do everything to make it. I eventually became a great computer tech with all my had work. Just a thought
Man did I love Little Stevie Wonder! This was one of his best musical periods, and this extended version makes it obvious just how great a composer and singer he was. Are the Funk Bros playing the instruments (besides the keyboards of course)?
