Put your camera on the cat walk and record the hooking of the trailer. You will see that it is better if the truck lifts the trailer some when you back under it. If it is heavy...wait for the truck to raise back up. The truck going up on air bags will take the pressure off the landing legs.

You could’ve just dropped your bags to get under trailer and also just connected your emergency line to slide tandems instead of reconnecting everything again lol
I've noticed a lot of OTR guys don't know how to drop their bags in this situation. I've had to help a few out back when I ran shuttle loads. As long as the trailer will clear the tires, then drop the bags and you're good. Another tip, if you ever have a trailer drop on accident, lower the bags, put the frame under the trailer, lift the bags, then crank on the handle it will relieve a lot of the pressure, just continue to do that until the trailer is hight enough to get back under.
Dave I've been watching your videos some. Pretty good for a rook. The one thing you might want to do different is the order you use when dropping trailers.always put landing gear down before you pull the pin.. sooner or later your gonna forget. The last thing always pull the pin!! Good luck kid and be safe....

If the trailer is empty and it’s too low. If it clears the drives. Drop those airbags and get up under there and once the trailer is on the 5th wheel fill them back up. Be cautious doing it at other locations where the trailer may be slanted in some sort of way.
Same here. I used to live in Highland and still live in Victorville. I know the entire San Bernardino Valley very well and suspected he was going to end up in that area as soon as he said it would be a 17 mile drive from Fontana to "the destination". You did the right thing by sliding the tandems. I've seen some customers that will actually fine carriers/drivers for failing to slide them. Few do, but you will eventually come across an outlier customer that actually will fine you for not sliding them before dropping a trailer in their lot.
Jason, I’ve done both. I hate running the same roads everyday especially when I lived in Dallas and now Houston. If you run regional or otr, just make sure you don’t get paid zip to zip. Hourly is the best and honest way to get paid. When I run local, I run a full clock Monday to Friday, and some on Saturday as optional, holidays off. However, I miss the open roads.
@@mumbleIntel I totally agree on the open road. It is exciting. I loved it. The pay and basically doing free work was not exciting. I do still believe good money is out there over the road. @@liquidman2009 it may seem like "free" work, but in a way it's not really free work. The cpm rate that OTR carriers pay usually accounts for time expected to be spent doing required On Duty stuff. Compensating drivers for On Duty work would only result in a lower basic cpm rate. In the end, the same carrier is going to pay you about the same amount anyway. And most company drivers are not going to have the option of picking loads that make the fullest use of their 70s possible anyway. I also don't know many O/O's who even want to use up their 70's. Most O/O's only care about getting the largest profit margins possible and running only as many miles as necessary to see a minimum preferred take home pay each week.
You would hav never made it through the traffic brother, u made the right call trust me and there isn’t anywhere to park once you pass hesperia ca on I-15 before u drop down Cajon pass into los Angela’s county. It’s a big pilot but better get there early
There are a whole bunch of places where you can park both in and south of the Cajon Pass. But it helps a lot to have prior experience with the area. But put me in Dave's home area and it'll probably be a different can of worms.
Next time you get a low trailer like that just dump your bags. It will lower your frame and fifth wheel. Easy to back under then, and great video by the way.

Slanted parking setups are identical to perpendicular spots. The problems you're likely running into are two primary possibilities: (1) starting your right turn prematurely; and (2) picking a target on the other side of the lane that is too far to the right. If the setup lane is more narrow, go an extra spot past your desired spot before starting your setup turn. Personally, I stop steering right when there is a full trailer length of gap between the front of my tractor and whatever is in front of me, then go all the way across the lane before turning back to the left. Slanted spots are actually easier to back into than perpendicular. Just keep honing your setup skills and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Looking back I’m proud of my job and what I accomplished in California year in and year out , reefer 😊
Can't say I blame you for not wanting to get that other load in Carson. I'm from SoCal myself and know the area better, plus I've been in that area with my truck enough to know at least a few good places in the area where I can park. Regardless of how much CDL experience you have, it's never fun trying to figure out where you can possibly park when you don't already have more than a little bit of prior experience with the specific area. I can go into your area even with 5+ years of experience and not know for sure what other options are available to me outside of what shows up in Trucker Path. Tip: Try using Google Maps. Look at the reviews for not only your own customers, but any other places in the area where trucks are known to dock in at. A lot of times the other reviews will give you clues about whether overnight parking is available on or near the customer's property.

Make sure to note such things down on the papers, cause that's extra work for you. And it becomes a problem if the trailer is loaded.
Love you bro 😎 keep on trucking be safe 👋
Dude i just realized that up this video i forgot to subscribe to your channel. Ive been watching your vids for awhile now . The other day i saw a cfi here in cali which i think it was you but couldn’t tell . Safe travels bro
I feel ur pain with the traffic there. One of the major reasons I'll never move to a major city.
Love your vlogs Dave ❤️
Hello , I did seven drops and my pick up on e log in California LA area , I have a dry van and sizor lifts nailed down to the floor and a bunch of display units all hand bomb stuff , any way I am mentally sick in the head , yes it happens but I did my job safe and did it well , so if I can do it , I believe anyone who puts their mind to the task can , but a lot of people say they won’t do that . Looking back I’m proud of my job and what I accomplished in California year in and year out , reefer 😊
Dang!! You were right next to me! In Ontario, I work for UPS So Cal Feeder 😎😎
Are you following me, I’m in Fontana today, seems like we are going to the same damn cities all the time
We need more videos man lowkey I wanna be trucker much love bro carefu on the roads
I was sho looking at ur tandems at that first delivery 😆cuz I saw the other trailers with slid tandems and I was like "ummm lemme just comment that rq" but now that u realized it 😆stoopid ass😆😆good work as always brother
Slam it , as long as the fifth wheel plate lowers at an angle and not straight into the trailer you good.
hmmm. you good driving
I had this exact situation happen to me picking up a load in Carson I ran out of time getting loaded I just Personal Conveyance to the nearest truck stop which was like 1 hour and a half away you can PC in those situations and put "ran out of time at the shipper getting loaded I'm going to safely park at the nearest truck stop"
Hey Dave I saw now the news one loves was on fire 🔥
Just saw a CFI driver heading West on the 52 heading out of Santee...was that you? (12:50 Monday)
You da man Dave!
You passed my homestead Fontucky LOL.
If you go back to Fontana, go eat some Fried Alligator from the Bass Pro Shop in Fontana, it tastes amazing.
I like your videos, can you please attach the CB cable to the top, it keeps dangling, and it annoys me, hide the view of passenger mirror, thanks a lot Dave :)
No everybody doesn't have to do free work... EVER LOL😬 Stick together & make these people pay y'all!🤠👍 Don't cave, that's the only way it will get better for everyone in the trucking industry! God bless 🙏
