- Live at Montreux 1986 is a concert video release by the British synth pop band Talk Talk of a concert at 1986 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The show was part of a tour that started in April 1986 to promote the band's recent album The Colour of Spring, and was to be their only appearance at Montreux, from their last tour.
For this tour, the usual trio of Mark Hollis (vocals), Paul Webb (bass), and Lee Harris (drums) was augmented by John Turnbull on guitar, two percussion players, and two keyboard players. As often, de facto fourth band member Tim Friese-Greene did not play on stage with the band.
:: It's My Life ::
Funny how I find myself in love with you
If I could buy my reasoning I'd pay to lose
One half won't do
I've asked myself
How much do you commit yourself?
It's my life
Don't you forget
It's my life
It never ends
Funny how I blind myself
I never knew if I was sometimes played upon
Afraid to lose,
I'd tell myself what good you do
Convince myself
It's my life
Don't you forget
It's my life
It never ends
I've asked myself
How much do you commit yourself?
It's my life
Don't you forget
Caught in the crowd
It never ends
Who’s here in 2024 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Me...from Sweden...not the first time, not the last.❤
Ohhh yeah...and if I'm still alive..2034
what a band , what a singer ... those songs ... not of this time
65 and still listing to this masterpiece from best years of my life the 80s
I totally missed this era being born a bit too late. But damn these guys were the real deal. 💯
I’m 57 years old and this song hurts my heart remembering the huge house parties and dancing to this song. God I wish I could go back for just a minute!!
@@RockDeKasbahjust about everyone when this song came out
living in the past is pain.... enjoy it NOW x
We were young.
Same age but I think it passed me by at the time. Love it now. Amazing.
Nostalgia is what you got mate. Only one cure, go out and make loads of new memories, sleep, repeat. It's good, age is wisdom says a 1964 original. Peace and love!
When a singer really means it. This performance is mind blowing! This is not acting. This is feeling. RIP Mr. Hollis.
Or when a performer can actually sing!
What a great, timeless song. Rest well Mr. Mark Hollis!
I keep coming back, again & again & again & again, & again & again for years now.
Last night, a very close friend of mine passed away at the age of 53. I listened to this all night.
Sorry to hear that. I’m glad this song gave you solace
❤I feel you❤
Why is this comment and the top comment both have the age 53
One of the greatest live performances of the 1980s. Life-affirming brilliance.
Abstolute magic.
@@AggroSkater79 so true
Some bands have a live-sound others don't even achive in the studio. Beyond explaination!
Of all time I’d say. This song is so beyond Glorious
Yesss, vous avez raison : )))
I am blown away by the emotion. Fantastic live performance 38 years ago!
I've had cancer twice still not ot the woods but music is my lifeline. Love the 80s. My smile machine
The drummer is a real animal with impressive stamina!
I totally agree. The almost perfect consistency of the drum beats and his clockwork movement reminds me of Phil Rudd from AC/DC who is an absolute machine on the drums too.
Por causa dele, gostaria de aprender a tocar bateria... Apesar q todos, cada um na sua área, dão um verdadeiro show... Apaixonada por eles 💕😍
Yes he is......when this song first came out, for a second, just for a second, I thought it was Roxy Music lol!
Talented drummers
This live performance is INSANE
Greatest concert I was never at.
This performance is wonderful...... Beyond human boundaries
Old Music is Insane, new nusic is pathethic
@@UitdenOosterhout Sure👍
@Bill Carson because it is too much great to be human 😘❤️
Mark Hollis is a legend. So lucky to have that person in our history.

Never get tired of listening to this version - absolute class performance!!! Music misses Mark Hollis - RIP🙏
Mark, you're forever surrounded by the colours of spring. Sleep well lovely man.
This coment make me cry.....
Well said tys feel the same!
I’ve listened to this song a million times but this is the first time I’ve seen this performance and it’s nothing short of sensational.
It's beyond PHENOMENAL
It's just brilliant isn't it. The dirty bass, the vocals, the percussion intermission at 4 plus minutes
100% agree.. always loved this song, first time hearing it live.. wow..!
The whole Montreux set is brilliant.
Mesmerizing 😵💫@@addyboy1982
The most under rated band of the 80s. Just pure brilliance. This song is mesmeric.
Not only of the 80's, my friend.
@@reepicheep66 Thats actually an interesting point. The 80s had almost too many great bands and some of them (like Talk Talk) got a bit overshadowed. I feel the true appreciation of their brilliance came later. For one their music has aged very well, especially this song.
The only band of this "genre" I loved as a girl. And do now. Just heard the song at a gas station on radio, passing by. And almost cried.....Thank you, Mark Hollis. xxx
Wasn’t owerrated. That was sucess. Still is sucess
The chameleons bro
This is what a perfect song sounds like
The baseline is stupid good.......Hollis is exceptional.....loved this band since the 1980s
The way it pushes the song is just soooo damn good.
It's proper work to play this on bass guitar but when it's done right it sounds dirty and brilliant
One of the best lines I have heard. It drives this song
It’s rare that I mourn a public figure, but we were so sad to hear of the death of Mark Hollis on Monday (my husband was actually in tears last night 😥). Mark wrote and sang songs of raw power and fragile, tender beauty with such ineffable sweetness that, probably more than any other artist of his time, both defined and laid bare the soul of a British generation coming to maturity in the 1980s. A quietly modest, uncompromisingly original, musical genius. Thank you sir.
Beautiful words x

Best comment I’ve read in a long time on youtube. Bless you, bless Mark and bless the beauty of music at its purist
Same here, I didn't know about Mark Hollis until now, such talent. Truly hurts my heart.
Thanks for the comment. I was also unaware of his death till now. There certainly is public figures that create an emotional void when they are not around anymore.
Sheer brilliance BEST SONG EVER - This was the era when there was REAL QUALITY music unlike todays total crap. RIP Mark. WHAT A VOICE you had dood - unequalled and missed.
As a Bass player myself this has always been one of my favourite bass riffs from the 80's
I’m 53 and was just diagnosed w cancer. Life is passing us by. This music is now the sound track to my life. You can’t help but move and smile just a lil bit.
Just keep going brother n be strong
Good luck to you..I hope your doing well.
I hope with all my heart you're beating it, mate. Much love.
You ok, mate?
👍❤
Beautiful man to give us this gift. Such an amazing song, words don't do it justice. He poured himself into this live performance. There's nothing like it these days, nothing will beat the artistry of the 80s. RIP Mark. Thank you. ❤
Perhaps the best live performance. That's music at it's highest delivering a message for the ages.
You just never get fed up of listening to this tune . A real pick me up : thankyou.
This is the most amazing live performance of a song ever!!!
Hell ya best voice ever! No one will ever b this great! Especially tomorrow started damnnnnn blows me away! & the band as well! At 72 I will love him since the 80’s!......👍❤️🔥🇺🇸💯

I lover this to! Im 8!
It's for all ages, it's called Rock and Roll. (I'm 62 and a half)
RIP Mark Hollis. A band ahead of their time
😭
Sad.
Great great voice of the time ... RIP prayers

Rip so sad
The bass line in this song is trippin. Mark was a national treasure, the band he worked with was epic.
God it makes me sad to think he's gone.
I'm the same age he was when he died 4 years ago.
I keep the cancer to myself, I'm just powering along...
This guy was the real deal, an amazing voice, an honest man with impeccable principles. A family man. A beautiful man. And yes, it's okay to call a man that.
What a great bunch of music he left behind. That's his gift to the world.
RIP, Mark Hollis.
R.I.P. Mark Holllis…...such a sad loss to music :(
It is my ife.. yet not the same without him to sing them words to make them special
Sad
brilliant band
i agreed with you
😔
I' also love it when the keyboards come back in at 3.20, then drums or bongos etc, the song is mesmerising
Sleep well Mark Hollis 🙏 happier times..your songs, your voice.. brought joy to so many of us. Nostalgia 😞 Gone too soon ❤️🙏
Sensationell
A truly unique voice has been silenced forever which makes clips like this even more precious. RIP Mark Hollis
Rest in Peace Mark😞. You were an great musician
I think this might be the greatest live video ever recorded - the song, performance, energy, sound quality all amazing.
have a look at such a shame from the same concert
I like this version better than the studio one, and I've always loved this song!
After The Who's Live at Leeds, yes
The best … ❤️
I totally agree. Paul Webb is a great bass player and I also want to say that Lee Harris is an amazing drummer.
Can’t stop watching this. Bloody awesome
This song was out when I was 11. It wasn’t anything special to me. If it was on, I’d listen to it.. fast forward to 2022.. I’ve always loved music. I work in an office alone at night and let TH-cam play random music that I like and I’ll see where it takes me. It brought me here. Omg! I had no idea how awesome Marks voice was and the band as well! You can always tell just how talented a band is when you hear it live. This made me stop what I was doing and watch and listen! One of the best live performances I’ve ever seen! (I’m 50 now)
Yes thanks for your comment. We all agree. But it always seem to have moved us when we were young in one way or another. That's why I think it's still one of our favorite like so many other great songs we grew up. Thanks to 'you tube" for bringing these all back. we live in horrible times but things like you tube helps us to bear it in a good positive way. Good luck with yourself
I completely agree! I was 9 or 10 when this came out. Heard it in the background, and then In 2016, driving a truck, listened to it and was blown away. What a treasure we have had all these years.
A lot of songs hit differently now that we’re older.
Same age here. I've never heard of this song until much later in my 20s. It should be a much bigger hit than most pop songs of that year (Stevie Wonder's I just called to say I love you haha)
Glad you found it !! Sheer class !!
Never stop Talk Talking! It’s your life.Legendary!
My fiancé and I love, love, love this! 😍💖 80s throwback, Happy Friday 🎉
What a performance.. Absolutely Brilliant!! 💜
A voice that can never be duplicate!! They optimised the 80’s.!!! The all time best singer in the entire world!! And awesome band!!
Hell ya! 👍💯
This is beyond brilliant. One of the greatest songs ever made ❤️
This is absolutely brilliant awesome song
Every note is just so perfect in the bassline...each one just fits!!
This man is just... Living music. We can feel how he is out of his body. Pure talent and music. This live performance is outstanding.
That was amazing 😵
one of the very best of the 80,s
Great song!
Utter genius.
Awesome song...Good old 80's...Great times
This has to be the best live version of a song I’ve ever heard, now with even bigger memories.
Check out this song being sung as a trubute to Mark Hollis by Choir Choir Choir! A Canadian grouping of 200 plus amateur singers and one man with a guitar on stage. Chilling powerful and inspiring. If a song can draw out that kind of emotion and feeling from a random group of people and make it sound so beautiful you know the origin of that song is a masterpiece. This song will live on and on for many lifetimes ahead of us. Rest in peace fine sir!
We will always miss you.....

R.I.P. Mark. You've been OUR LIFE.
And THAT never ends.
He died, but his legacy lasts. Thanks Mark Hollis
Just imagine if we could all go back now and be in that audience! Tickets would be ridiculous money! Awesome👌👌
Rare for a live version to sound better than what the studio put out.
I was thinking the very same thing and then read your comment. Spot on.
still love the studio version better
Exactly dude !!!...👍
Spot on. I thought it was impressive that they nailed it better live than the studio did after no telling how many iterations and engineering.
It is?
R.I.P Mark. You have made the world magnificent with your music.
Mariën van Raan and your lyrics too thanks and RIP mark
Yes...music beautiful
The sound engineer earned his pay on this gig
Joe Gomez amen
For real.
So true. This sounds amazing
David Richards, if I'm not mistaken... I'll second that
Didn’t he just..
Nunca más bandas así, fue el legado que los 80's nos dejó y nos hizo vivir. Todo lo de ahora es porquería.
So original and simply haunting ......
Mark Hollis sadly passed today. Real music died a long time ago. Just listen to this brilliance...
One of the finest in the 80's 😥
He will be missed!!!!!
Absolute sublime live version and love how he’s so immersed into his song
One word brilliant
Brilliant Sadly missed
What a piece of gold these boys made, so deep, the very congestioned spirituality of the contemporaneous person, and it never ends...
Has there ever been a more intense vocal? I’m emotionally exhausted just watching. Otherworldly.
I've got goose bumps. Brilliant. A friend gave me this song on record a long time ago. He gave it to me because he didn't like it...OMG. I still dance to it.
How can you dislike this?!
It’s perfect. That 80’s keyboard tune, amazing bassline, synthesizer, lovely accent, drums, mysterious lyrics....
Ikr like whatever you were mentioning are reasons to love this song.
Mark Hollis, lead singer is Awesome, his musicians make it all worth while. Great Stuff for any decade.
Holy cow. One of the best rock performances I have ever seen.
This is music art.

bands like this don't exist anymore nowadays. I've always loved Mark's typical voice..in this song definitely also pay attention to the rhythm of the extended percussion on the conga's!❤️🎶🔝

I have to give the band a mighty thumbs up too. We all loved Mark Hollis beyond a doubt but just listen to his guys! There is some hella sound that they are making happen! All put together, THEY gave us this and a whole lot more. Thanks, Talk Talk! I love you!
This track still has the same effect on me now as it did when I first heard it as a teenager. Like the world shifts just a little .
Another great voice, unigue melody and special mind gone. Miss you... Rare.

I dunno about that. I mean this song is a big hit. Tons of excellent new wave bands in the 80s whose careers never took off.
Music of today could stand to learn something from this
RIP Mark Hollis. Thank u for ur music.
Yep!
I still think one of the best pop songs ever written - really great musicians and a great feel for getting the sound mix right. There is a great interview with Mark Hollis on here where he explains the band's views on how the sound comes together. The bass guitar riffs just drive the whole song - Rob
