- A Newcastle Hackney Taxi driver caught a Blueline (ride) Private Hire driver try and pick up a customer illegally. The customer was told the driver was free to pick up - she would have been driven with NO insurance. The Newcastle Hackney trade is suffering with numerous cases of Private Hire drivers picking up illegally.
Didn't realise things were this bad in Newcastle. The Newcastle Hack driver kept calm. Well done to him!
The driver was asked, are you working ? He said yes which is true, he was waiting for requests. The rider thought she can jump in without booking as she didnt know. The driver looked clearly inexperienced, also his English didnt serve him well. He was trying to explain to her that its a prebooking taxi, till the hackney guy came behaving like a member of the council. It would've been a wise idea to watch and wait instead of judging poor guy's intentions.

I’ve actually done this seen a private hire parked up so I’ve got in and said Jesmond please but he said he can’t take me until I book him so I’ve had to ring up the company and book him but I didn’t get out the taxi I just sat there and booked him told them I’m in the Taxi but the driver would not move until he got the Job through , most of the public don’t under stand this we see a Taxi and think get in especially at 3am so I don’t think the driver done wrong he hadn’t drove away just a Hackney driver boiling he didn’t get the fair 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

Personally, I think the councils and/or police should put out posters around the ranks, bus stops, train stations and licensed premises to make the public more aware of the dangers too.
Wouldnt this driver be breaking the law by just being sat there poaching?
I drop off and pick up in Newcastle City Centre and Airport a lot in one of our buses. Often I drop off and I have another pick up from Newcastle a little later. I used to park on a side street by Grainger Market to wait for my next booked job. But I packed in as it gets quite annoying telling the public asking me to take them to such and such that I am not a taxi, especially when they twist and harp on practically begging and offering to pay you more. I started parking out the way now. I usually pull up in the coach bays on Ord Street now if picking up from the City Centre unless there is an event on at the arena in which case, I park in the shell garage on Gateshead side of the bridge. But more should be done to inform the public.
