Please look a bit into the company you are recommending to your viewers. They have just been issued a huge fine for sharing users data with other companies. It's a shame how they are trying to hide this behaviour away by paying huge sums into TH-cam sponsorships. (I also tried the product and really disliked it - it's much easier to just find a therapist online and paying per session - you can also decide to cancel immediately and not go back with no financial penalty).
I wonder what those people driving by must have been thinking when they saw a stressed-looking black cab driver with London A to Z spread on the bonnet..?
They probably think, that guy has gone to a lot of effort to draw out google maps on a real piece of paper
I'm no professional driver, and have had both great and awful experiences with both black cabs and Uber, but really appreciate your refusal to hate Uber drivers just because they might be on the other team. There is far too much hate in this world, and that sentiment makes you part of the solution, rather than the problem.
About hating other drivers - As a bus driver, it’s sort of known in the bus driving industry that taxi drivers have a hatred towards buses and bus drivers.
I’ll always let out a taxi driver if i see them just picking up a passenger, or finished setting down. However the favour is never returned and whenever i find myself needing to pull out of a bus stop on oxford street, i have 8 taxis going past me before i can move off.
I’ve had arguments with taxi drivers cutting me off and setting down directly in front of me in the bus lane, i get there’s a job to do, but can there not be some consideration that i can’t swerve a 16t bus around them on finchley road 😂
I’ve had taxi drivers seem shocked when i let them out; it’s just confusing because we both pretty much work the same jobs, why can’t we help each other out?
What route do you drive?? I used to drive the 94 (Acton Green- Picadilly Circus)/ 148 (White City - Camberwell)/ 70 (Chiswick - South Kensington) routes, and currently drive rail replacement rail replacement for Metroline, normally out of Holloway and Willsden High road and sometimes Cricklewood.
Must agree with you that I've had some really bad taxi drivers cut me off and blocked me into my bus stop, such as on Queen's Gate near South Kensington, even though I had my right indicator on to leave a bus stop, etc. Most are considerate to bus drivers, but normally only when they don't have any passengers, of which case they wouldn't mind sticking behind a bus in order to make searching for a passenger to hail a bit more easier 😅😅
I don't take London taxis most of the time because I don't live there. The first time I took a cab was from a hotel near the Royal Astronomical Society (Burllington, I think) to Waterloo. All the cabbie did was moan about the lack of trade, and I simply told him I couldn't help. I did tip him well, but he made me think his lack of business was my fault. The second occasion was with my wife, who has now passed away, but it was from Waterloo to wherever the double-decker tour bus picked people. The driver was a woman, and she was the kindest person I have ever met. Pam, my wife, was disabled, and the taxi driver went above and beyond. I think she got something like a 200-300% tip.
I think all I'm saying is most people will tip a little bit, but some of us out there will tip a lot if you just be kind. Just helping load the luggage goes a long way but I understand if you normally deal with assholes and cheapskates. - Tom
I applaud both your attitude and ability to keep me glued to the whole video every time 😊
I figured the 320 runs were selected because you could potentially stitch them together in an appropriate combination for the majority of routes.
“Oh, Building x is a block away from building y on that route”
"About three hours later..."
That gave me a chuckle.
finished just in time
Great video always very informative and interesting
Really enjoyed this video Tom , you was spot on regarding sticking to a settled working pattern depending on your circumstances.
Keep up the great work
Always love watching your vlog. Thank you.
Brilliant production Tom. 🤗
In Germany, the "Ortskundeprüfung" (the equivalent of "The Knowledge") has been abolished about three years ago. Obviously, it is no longer as crucial as it was, with everyone of us carrying a device that does okay-ish navigation in our pockets.
I always enjoy your videos!
great video tom many thanks
I love recognising some of the roads you travel on in the videos - I spotted the one near Alexandra Park Road (over the bridge) - I lived near there for years but moved out to Hertfordshire... I do miss London though!
I didn't know that they aren't allowed to turn down jobs within limits. I was going from Euston Premier Inn to Leicester Square and three drivers with their light on didn't stop for me when I tried to hail them down. They had seen me because they were shaking their heads when driving past.
They have to take jobs within the 12 miles IF it’s from a rank or a taxi responds to a street hail, and the jobs within the licensing area. No offence in not stopping to a street hail although I can’t see many that wouldn’t.
But ……..
Taxi lights on the latest cab appear to be on all of the time, when in fact they’re not, just a crap design. So they were probably not for hire or going to an app job
Thanks for the incite, I appreciate it. It was frustrating but was 4th time lucky.
Great video! Thanks.
Class video really well edited love it
Thank you for continuing your job as an London Black Cab driver. You are amongst the most valued people i know of. I wish all cabbies were as serious, and brilliant;y trained and educated as you are.
Fact 10 : In anothher european country I know, taxi game is dead since covid, business people used to be a good part of taxi customers, with tourists. Now tourists there are back, but business people aren't as work from home took over
Great video!
Ever since I was a young boy I've loved iconic black cab drivers and have almost always found them to be so friendly, knowledgeable and chatty. Big love to the Black Taxi Crew.
Living in SE London just off the A205, I've caught cabs home a few times and never been refused. Sometimes I have to help with directions for the last little bit, and hiring off the street isn't likely as unhired taxis are rare down here, you do see the odd one dropping people off occasionally
The part time on & off nature of the Job has gone with the lack of cheap cab options
Oh & I was asked Neville Gill Close on an appearance lol
PSV drivers, coach drivers, haulage drivers etc, all have tachometers that limit their hours and driving times. Does this apply to Taxi drivers.
Good video well done mate I’m really thinking of giving the knowledge a go!!! 😫😃
Just visited london for holidays and the drivers ive encountered are nothing like Tom. Rude and couldn't care less whilst chatting away on their headphones.
I’ve absolutely no idea why I watch your videos. But I do. Until the end. 😂😂
5:00 In my company, the roles have flipped over. 2 of our most experienced dispatchers, now nearing their retirement age, were cab drivers.
However: They moved to the call center early this millennium because we get regular wages, whereas cab drivers working a maximum of 60 hours a week may not even get anywhere close.
Such an interesting insight into the life of a driver of the iconic London black cab by a charismatic and considerate (shown in the reflections on Uber) presenter in a smoothly produced video. I don't have a particular concern for black cabs, but engaging and entertaining productions draws one into learning about new topics.
You need to find those 2 drivers that are 89-93 years old and do a video on them, because that sounds crazy.
5:35 Another extreme: All drivers in my company must be in uniform with shirts and ties, but I can still be in smart casual wear in the call centre.
We’re seniors and plan to use mainly cabs to get around on our 4.5 day first time visit. I hope we encounter your drivers! A question: I know there’s organized tours but none I’ve found are quite right for us. Are cabbies generally willing to spend an hour or two just showing us some sights on our first evening there?
Another brilliantly written and presented show, Tom. Nice job. 👍
Ah your an Aylesbury escapee, Good job for getting out of here 🤣
I’m from Loughton, and I’d say 5/10 of my friends’ dads were cabbies - and yes, a lot moved to Spain.
You're such a wise person
Are you still doing tours at the moment?
Are you by Queens Wood (Highgate)?
You used to live in Aylesbury?
Hey Tom, absolutely love the content and have been watching for a long time. I don’t wanna intrude or mess with your income, but I would really read up on better help and how bad their service actually is. Wouldn’t want such an amazing channel to have such a scummy sponsor
Tom, do you know what happens to your badge if you go to prison.
You're from Aylesbury?
I have the tube knowledge and you may have the cabbie knowledge but I don't want to ask a cabbie for directions for a tube station as he may say "hop in the cab and that will be £10 sir" I hope that it doesn't happen now but it used to happen a lot back in the 90s
The game is finished. My mate is now on 21's, and he hasn't been out on his bike in months. He knows nothing.
Are you filming this near Highgate Woods?
Looks like it - I recognised parts of Ally Pally and Hampstead Garden Suburb (I think) too
@@jamiet4632 Me too. As I watched more of the video I was thinking the same.
Why women are not cab drivers; Would you want to pick up potentially drunk strange men as a woman on her own and be one on one in a car with them?
heaps of women cabbies here in scotland
@@mattploij2673 Now I'm curiuos about the sexual harrassment numbers of Scotland because that may be a good sign.
Absolutely loads of female cab drivers in London. Loads.
@@Win-xl7no have you watched the video at all?
Crazy im 19 years old and drive HGVs up to 44 tons but cant drive a cab
In some countries, you also can't drive a bus until 21 years old
Certainly, you go thru the knowledge faster if you’re English. Witnessed that several times
The fastest time to complete The Knowledge was held by a Russian I believe
@@TomtheTaxiDriver only because he had English background
Love you Tom but You said the other mob but I’m professional from the other mob and many are there are some that used to work in chicken and chips shops and shouldn’t have a licence let alone private hire badge but i can remember a few instances where black cabs acted like the other mob you say
Where do you stand on pedicaps? #runsforcover . I work near Parliament Square and think they should all be licenced and taxed. Not parking on pavements would be good too ...
Talking about the demographics of black cab drivers, in myth 1. I’ve always wondered if it’s possible to become a black cab driver from outside of London? How many came from Leeds, Manchester, etc and then moved to London to do the job? I guess it would be an advantage having grown up in London as you’d have learnt the areas and streets from a young age but would growing up in a different city bar you from becoming a black cab driver later in life?
There is loads of black cab drivers not historically from London who pass the knowledge and live way way out of London. Some come in for the week from the Midlands for example.
👍👍👍
You should do a video on racism & cabbies: do passengers of color complain that drivers won't pick them up or take them to ethnic neighborhoods? Do passengers and drivers discriminate if they're of opposing nationalities or religions, especially during wars abroad? Do passengers and drivers refuse jobs because either party are women, poorly dressed, wearing particular religious symbols, or too old/young? Drivers can always turn down drunks, right, but can they make you pay in advance because they think you're too broke or likely to not pay?
Queens Wood Lane.
Shouldnt the arrow on the thumbnail be going the other way?
Hi hi
Fact 7 : Cyclists piss me off as a pedestrian, well some of them specially the food delivery ones from forbidden U word Eats, also their moped collegues quiet often piss me off
Fact 1: Entering your job isn't for everyone, not everyone can afford the cost of the knowledge and spend 2 or 3 years working full time on it without any income
Do you have an idea about taxi drivers outside London, do they also have something similar to knowledge to pass?
I was working full time whilst doing The Knowledge 👌🏻
I don’t hate Uber drivers, I hate prius drivers
dog? cab drivers
fools mate thats all
re: gender -- I imagine that there must be some fear of assault / harassment that keeps women from the job.
Sealed partition. Locking doors. Most surveilled city in Europe. Plenty of colleagues for back up
Do you hate black cab drivers that signed up to Uber? 😄
Your rule of sod about when you end up is rubbish. That is the human brain remembers negatives far more easily then the postive, it's called negative bias
You should have been a politician, you never really answered the question about what money you earn.
We hate uber!
And yet many people still use them who realising
@@automation7295 realising what ? They break the laws by going into different councils to pick up passengers ?

3 years to learn the knowledge??? Thats nearly an apprenticeship, should have done a trade to make way more money.
I want to know more about these pound notes you're earning. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but anyone handing you a pound note is probably not being entirely honest ....
yep. Uber is shit. Starbucks is shit

Okay mate 😂
Don’t knock middle aged men. Asian societies respect their elders. For some reason, the West vilifies its elders. Youngsters today will soon figure out that wisdom comes with age.
Give it a rest old man
He hardly did... Seems like you are projecting yourself into it
Respect works both ways.
Quite old man
Raining? I was in London bridge the other morning waiting for a job done about 45 mins while people where standing in the rain waiting for a bus, it's all about peoples financial situation , so we're NOT double busy when it's raining it's luck.
