    It was a great video. Its funny listening to that kid JD trying to coach Nick. Really? Nick had been fishing and using these techniques when his parents were still in grade school. Pulling down river with a belly and switching the rod from left to right to control the fish's head is how you do it. JD sure talked a lot. I hope I don't sound like that when I'm taking friends down the river. :P

      Well said. Nick Amato is the MAN when it comes to catching steelies, and helping others learn to fish for them. His magazine, SalmonTroutSteelheader, has been an incredible resource for anyone looking to improve their catch rate. (no affiliation, just appreciation). Thanks Anglers West for this video, even if the host guide presumed to know more than Nick.

    There’s a few ramps on the Nehalem that would put that “primitive” ramp to shame.

    Wish some of the people trying to get rid of our hatchery's could see these fish, they claim "hatchery fish", as if there are very many "true natives" due to hatchery fish spawning in the rivers, have bad genes. I would say that this beautiful pig of a hatchery hen was a prime example of the truth behind that theory! Great video can't wait for another! And to all those who don't know about our fish in danger, join CCA or NW Steelheaders Association and get involved! If we as sport anglers (and for some of us A WAY OF LIFE) don't do something we might not have these opportunities for our kids & grandchildren!

      FISHNROB I doubt it would have made a difference, Nick Amato is a steelheading legend with many decades of experience under his belt and the other guy was an obvious nube.

    So ya when u showed the dog rig there is no way ur bait gets near the bottom current pulling float and u have no weight on your leader that has to be screaming shallow in the current please explain

    I am confused about the rules they have in place for leader length (max 36 inches) & then I see a lot of videos with fishing guides on the same rivers I fish on with much longer leaders, 4ft+, can anyone explain?

    • @ianshultz2439
      @ianshultz2439 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is two anti snagging rules in place for oregon. Which rule that is in place depends on what river/time/zone you are fishing in. For example the mainstream nestucca falls under the mainstream 6 foot and under regulation while the nearby three Rivers (its the name of single river) has the other rule in effect which only allows leaders 18 to 36 inches during certain times of the year. I hope this helps!

    Plus bobber dogging all that current pulling your float and heavey weight is ya king in your set up making ur drift shallow that’s what I see

  • @jasonnester9514
    @jasonnester9514 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Someone please explain to me how bobber dogging presents ur set up diff than reg float fishing cause what I see in both set ups is a float weight under the float a leader split shot and bait so what’s the diff

    • @elonmust7470
      @elonmust7470 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also why is bobber doggin better than drifting lead?

    • @ManuelRodriguez-ml5zy
      @ManuelRodriguez-ml5zy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another way to floss🤣

    • @MichaelPhillips-jw4bj
      @MichaelPhillips-jw4bj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      bobber dogging is off the bottom. basically Drifting lead with a float. Thats why the floats lay flat. The floats roll in dogging is different Float fishing is a suspension tech. Your not intended to make much if any contact with the bottom. The float should be straight up and down

    • @MichaelPhillips-jw4bj
      @MichaelPhillips-jw4bj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elonmust7470 It is basically the same except you use a float. You can control your drift and pick your spots by positioning the float...The float has its draws backs as well. The current has both positive and negative effects on it

    • @jasonnester9514
      @jasonnester9514 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Phillips I use a reg float with with split shot and drag the hell out of the bottom
      And smash em
