  • I couldn't have finished this project without your help!
    Some of the parts I needed to find and replace just don't come up that often, and without them, I would have no way to get this restoration project over the line.
    It really is fantastic to see an old Fox alive and kicking again :)!

    Excellent restoration Gavin. I had the original back in 87-88. Yes it was a pig to work on and the front anti sway bar is an absolute must on these. Totally improved the driving.
    I do remember it being a bit slower than my other Tamiyas but it was okay for the time. Sadly I sold all my old stuff, two Hornets, Fox, Wild One and Frog to a friend and never saw them again.
    Last week I built an Avante 2011 and am back in love with Tamiya cars.
    Awesome Homage to your Dad's Fox too mate... Really touching tribute.

    Beautiful Gav , she's got a lot of life left in her still. The 21 turn motor definitely goes pretty well . But yes being a vintage original Tamiya Fox she needs to well looked after 👌👍

    the fox was my first car at age 12. It had a terrible problem with that sealed chassis, where if you did a lot of maintenance, and kept unscrewing it, then the Threads would hollow out in the plastic, and you could no longer screw in the top half of the body in a secure way. I never got the stabilizer, and the front shocks just looked wonky and uneven. The shocks never seemed stiff enough, and as I bashed it around the backyard it really got beaten up. I owe that old car an apology, and my new NovaFox is a pure shelf queen. :)

    Wow! Didn't realise how many differences there were from the rere and the rarity of the parts. And there I've been recklessly thrashing my original around 😳. Will be a little more cautious now.
    Also, that yellow colour really looks cool. The story behind it is also very cool. Thanks for sharing it with us.

    I restored mine years ago I happen to get lucky and found a mom and pop hobby store with a back room gold mine of vintage parts. All the years of racing it I ended up with tons of parts from back on the day like those axles.

    This brings back sooo many memories...I loved my Fox but man it wasn't easy to work on! I raced the heck out of mine so I was an expert at taking it apart after a while. It was never the fastest buggy but it was pretty reliable as long as you didn't hit anything too hard and the waterproofing worked fairly well, I drowned mine in puddles a few times with no lasting effects! Awesome. I was actually able to throw in a new battery to my original Fox, to include the original Futaba Attack and drive it around the house! Unfortunately, those mechanical speed controller can put out a lot of heat, so back in the day I used a small drill bit to add ‘speed holes’ to the upper chassis plate to let the heat out. Looking for an original replacement now.

    Beautiful work as always Gavin 👌. Absolutely spectacular but like many other fans of your channel I do admit it is so scary to take it onto a public Rd as it's a genuine vintage car and the thought of a mishap is scary. All in all its beautiful and a wonderful tribute to your Dad. I also have a genuine vintage 1985-1986 Tamiya Fox in original box art that I got as a present from my parents in original condition.i tried a new battery but my old girl is very old and I just keep her as a memory of my youth. Great work as always Gavin.👍

    Love my Novafox but I'm scared to ever drive it for fear of breaking it and spares are unique to that car. Also agree maintenance is a nightmare, and I also find the body never sits very level due to the cable exit. The steering is also weird, but with all its quirks it's still a thing of beauty.

    That's dedication. Does that horizontal single shock really make a difference in the way the car turns or handles rough surfaces? I know you have a couple of these buggies with that feature. Would it be worthwhile to put a new tech oil filled shock on one? Just curious.

    • @RCKickschannel

  • @UlisesBatalla
    @UlisesBatalla ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What did you do about the terrible steering issues? I have the original FOX and made the mistake of buying the NOVA for my son. We out fitted the bottom with metal skids and bumpers and it looks great and we even used a zVintage Novak TX-1 forward only no limit ESC and he hates it so much it’s a beautiful Shelf Queen. Sad Dad. BTW the Fox can Accommodate 6 different pinion gears. Yup. I dislike the new style sway bars front and still used the old style sway bars from Parma in the rear.

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      You will never have a sharp turn in on a fox as it’s such a long wheelbase rear motor 2WD buggy. You can optimise it as much as possible but you can’t eradicate it

    How do you fix where the motor wires come out with out damageing the wires?

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if you're asking about the wire rubber surround that fits into the chassis and holds the wires in place when you screw the chassis down or how I rewired the new motor? if so this comes in the kit but most get lose over the years.
      If its the motor, I just cut the vintage wire off the old motor, removed a few mm of the cable sheath and then place some heat shrink tubing down the wire. Solder up the wire ends and the motor tabs. Joint them together and then slide the heat shrink down over the solder joints. Shrink the cover around the joins. :) Job done and it looks like stock. Sorry if this wasn't what you asked about.
