Your channel is amazing, I started violin a month ago to help with my mental state. Your videos and your attitude are amazing I'm improving and having so much fun. Thank you so much for providing free content for people you are such an asset to the music community.
How is your journey going now I started 3 and a half months ago My teacher made me skip grade 1 because he told me you passed it without me knowing Hope you are doing well now
Dear Alicin! Reg. The dollar strings. If you will get a swatch of cotton or linen cloth and twist it around each string and then vigorously pinch and rub all the way down and back again maybe 50 strokes per string and get them hot to the touch you will be amazed at the warmth that those cheap little strings produce! Of course retune after rubbing! I think youl like them much more! Ware the goggles while you do this. Enjoy! P.S. may take half a dozen burnishings to completly strech them in. Enjoy the new tone! Bye for now.😅
I started playing violin since September and I am really enjoying it and I also play piano since last year, I have an amazing teacher and I have a violin and I love it,
I had a E string snap the other day first violin and first time stringing it, scared the crap out of me. Thanks for all the amazing content, I used your advice when I went shopping and found myself a very nice Scherl and Roth that I fell in love with.
I just recently bought a violin and I’m learning by myself using your videos. Thanks so much for creating them and helping me learn. I aim to be a great player one day 💙.
9:33 That's actually a cool little warm-up that you do there... sounds great... just the choice of notes and the sequences you chose and where to add vibrato....
I would love a video comparing bows you can find on amazon. Maybe a comparison of the cheapest on amazon, mid price and a bit more expensive. See what is worth it! I need a new bow but it’s hard to know what would be good on amazon.
Wouldnt an old set of good strings be better?? Like usually if you get a 600$+ violin it comes with atleast tonicas, wouldnt it be better to leave them on longer than buy a bad set of strings?
That is an essential information. I have broken few E strings in the 20+ years of my practice. Most of my strings are cheap but priced high.😁 In my experience I feel it is not the cheap strings that matter much. It is violin body and bridge that are instrumental in producing good quality sound. I experimented with my $350 Sander and expensive strings the sound was still bad. ☹️
I bought reallt cheap strings recently and they don't stabilize. I had to tune them over and over. I also here the pegs creak even when not played, meaning it moved... 😫
you can hear the tinny sound in those strings massively even on your mic. "Sound advice" from my luthier was to remember that a better set of strings can make a student level violin last a few more grades and is actually cheaper than an upgraded violin, that gives you more time to save for a better quality instrument. personally I'd never buy anything off the internet for my violin but I understand affordability is an issue... you really need to get your hands on it and have a look at it and if you don't know what you are looking at, make friends with your luthier, it'll save you a bundle! something I can definitely say is: if you do splurge and buy a set of gold pirazzi… don't use your horrible cheap plastic butter cube rosin on your bow, get some better rosin at the same time.
Thats absolutely true and I do not disagree, however a lot of people want and wanted to know what a $0.99 set of strings were like and my opinion of them. Plus, so many people just cant afford a set of Evahs, but still just want to play the violin.
@@TheOnlineViolinTutor I can understand whole heartedly, my family was poor and violin only became an option when I got older and could afford it myself, I'd have counted myself blessed for a $1 set of strings on a $50 violin and I'd have been proud of them all the same, let alone to have had your videos which would have made a world of difference, thank you for making other people's dreams that much more attainable than mine were. Playing the violin has saved me through a lot of heart ache and pain and I believe a lot of your online learners will be the same. The advice and clear direction you give on your videos did not come to me cheap, you are worth your weight in good fortune and then some.
I have not done this as its largely dependant on the person using it and the violin. I dont think it would translate well into a video as its all to do with weight and feel, and thats something you would have to take my word for. Whats heavy for me, might not be for you.
@@TheOnlineViolinTutor oh! That explains a lot! Could you do a video on the differences/advantages of a carbon fibre bow or is there a similar situation for this?
Again, bow videos are quite hard to do as its all about the weight and feel. I personally dont like CF bows as they are bobt weighted as well as Pernambucos.
@@krishnashukla4382 I use a carbon fibre bow and violin myself, personally I went for CF instrument over timber not out of comfort but because I live in Australia, the heat can affect timber horribly so that is an advantage, the bow was a complete coincidence though because I just liked the feel but I found that many CF bows were too light in weight or oddly weighted for me, so purchase one in the flesh, pick it up, take your violin with you and you will feel what is right for you, bows are a very personal taste, I've seen people choose a $300 one over ones priced in the thousands not because of affordability but because they just felt right to them. Unless you have a reason to seek out a CF one I'd suggest to just ask to try out some bows, you might be surprised to find out your favourite bow to be fibre glass.. the medium is unimportant it's all in the feel!
Thank you for your videos. I have a separate question, I have been playing the violin for 8 months and I just started learning the natural F, is there any advice on how to keep the 1 and 2 fingers close together, I have a hard time going from natural F to E? I hope I asked that correctly lol. Thank you
@@TheOnlineViolinTutor the problem is my fingers 1 on E string keeps sliding toward the scroll and its hard for me to transit to natural F since the fingers are so close. I hope I am explaining it correctly. So trying to find a good technique.
i wish you will answer me can you tell me if you have a good violin and tell me it name I want to buy a violin but I don't know what should i do there is too much kinds of it i want the name of your violin cause i think it's perfect for me and can you tell me if there is a beter one or that is the best please answer me as fast as you can
You made a quite mundane topic into an interesting and informing video. So rare on these videos. Thanks. (You must get marriage proposals on a weekly basis)
If you put a set of cheap strings on a violin the sound will make a decent instrument and player sound, well.. bad. it's very hard to dodge on the strings, you can even get a decent sound out of a student level violin and up if you have decent strings on it but if you were to put a set of $20 strings on a Guarneri they will make it sound rubbish without a doubt. I'm not sure if you can hear it but instead of a nice "hum" from the strings you get this high pitch... squeal, almost like clawing the blackboard, the best description is they just sound tinny.

Hi Tutor Alison, I want to be a "baby violinist". I need to learn how to change the violin strings too. Thank You for the tips! Lovely channel!
When I was tuning my cheap e sting it broke and I was seriously injured
Tips to do before the day of an audition and what to do and not to do in the audition room?
Lovely channel. You are very helpful, thank you. 💖
Mam which piano do you use
I'm going to assume that it was the "new string sound" but it sounded very metallic and raspy.
I hope you still have that dollar bill shown in the video.
That serial number is collectable
I hope you wore safety goggles when you tensioned those bad daddies.
i never realized that My string was the problem Lol. Nice Vid

Just a bit of advice, any accessory or utility that costs less than a candy bar from a Dollar Tree l,don't buy it.

hey...please where can i find the white and black violin 🥺😭 been searching for 4 days...and can't find it...any tips for search it ?? 🥺
So uhm just a week ago I just snapped my E strings I dint know I was over tighten it because the E string peg just loosen
I always used Larsen strings. What is the best string in your opinion? Thanks
I like a mix of Pirastro Olive, Obligatos and Passiones
Ah, good!
I keep putting off learning. I should really sit down and begin. 😓
To my pre-amateur ears, your demo was beautiful.

What strings would you recommend to help get a smoother sound and make it easier to achieve a nicer tone?

Very informative .. Thank you ..
Safety is number one priority
Thanks for the information! I want to buy strings for my violin Concert 4/4, do you have any recommendations?
Totally depends on what you think it sounds like and what you want from the violin. I have 2 very in depth videos on my channel regarding this.
@@TheOnlineViolinTutor I will watch them, thanks
Wow, I Like White Violin.. Whats brand??
It was custom made for me.
The Online Piano & Violin Tutor aww that’s cute 🥰
Sounds good Alison ..I spend £60 to £80 on strings sets ..thanks a cheap usable set .. :) if needed :)
Hahaha watched this video with my cat laying next to me, and as soon as you started playing ahe ran away.
you tuning those strings reminded me I was in a band and watching our drunk & high lead guitarist try to tune up
Not sure why it took me 5 videos to realize violin strings are just the first/last 4 on a guitar lol duh! Just missing B and High e.
1 dollars is 50php
informative and entertaining.
Stick it on a strad
I like your accent and I think you’re a bit humerus 😂
Those strings actually last forever
Enjoyed your video.😅
I think you should make a video on indian song
Hehe i wear my glasses too when I tune my 🎻

Those strings were sacrilegious 😂 like if you know what I'm referring too if you watch TwoSetViolin

Sacreligious strings be like
I snapped my G string, after buying my violin within 30 minutes 😂
200$ worth of strings, ouch.
And I complain when I have to re-string my guitar for 15$

For a dollar, they make noise. More than I thought they would.
...and they didnt break whilst fitting and tuning, so that was a bonus!
