    I have always enjoyed this village, so tranquil and scenic. However I was honored to be invited on this special tour with you. Fioerenzo Conte, the current mayor (Sindaco), Maria our guide, and my friend, Carlos Alberto Di Cunto, councilman (Consigliere), along with others were such gracious hosts. I know we covered so many areas and beautiful locations that you plan to feature several videos. It was a spectacular day filled with scenery, history, camaraderie, and good will. I will never abandon my beautiful Santa Domenica Talao; however, if I were to choose another home in Italy, it would be Papasidero. The beautiful churches, the scenery with the River Lao, and the Pollino National forest, the nearby Grotto del Romito, the fantastic restaurants. A piece of Heaven on Earth.

      You said exactly what I was thinking Bon! So many similarities to our beloved SDT. but different in some ways. What an amazing place!

    • @giovanniroviello3084
      @giovanniroviello3084 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And SDT was founded by Papasiderese people in 1640. Several families from Papasidero moved there to form that community (settlers sent by local prince Spinelli). Many surnames are the same in both villages if you notice.

      Hello Bonnie ,good to hear from u, I hope all is well, hope still enjoyng living in Calabria.
      This town is so gorgeous, near the Pollino montains, also isnt it amazing that mountains in calabria are good to cool off in summer when its scorching hot, and the good think is they are not far from the sea.😊😆 tanti saluti Ciao ciao e appresto...😉

    Wonderful video. My mum is from Papasidero and I have a house in the village where I often go to relax. Next time if you have time you should also go to (and show) the church of St. Mary of Constantinople on the river Lao (with an interesting bridge) and the river too. In Papasidero there is also Romito Grotto (archeological site, prehistoric cave + graffiti), Avena (abandoned village, impressive), a waterfall (very beautiful and refreshing in summer!). Thank you for showing english-speaking people our small but beautiful Papasidero! Greetings from Italy!

      Hi Giovanni! Thank you for writing! We saw many of the points of interest that you mentioned an I will be doing videos on them. Each is so beautiful that they merit their own video. We did not see Avena so we do need to go. I was really taken with this beautiful town and all it has to offer! When you are back lets' have a coffee!

      You are right. In fact during my first visualization I did not notice your writings 'done', 'next video' or something like that. For the coffea: good idea thanks a lot. Your video made me smile and filled my heart with joy. Thank you again

    Sooooo beautiful and peaceful!!! I can live forever near the stream listening to flowing water ☺😍
    I've seen those scaffold marks in many ancient structures.... in Fez, Morocco the locals told me they left the holes for birds to have shelters in hot days there!! I'm sure that's a desert saying, here are lots of trees for birdies ☺☺
    Thanks Chris!! Love your RED jacket

    Awesome! The views are spectacular. I was so drawn in that I was disappointed when the tour ended. Thankfully, you'll have additional videos. I believe the marble/stone shop was in this town, right? I find it fascinating that you've been visiting Calabria for over a decade and you're still discovering things. And we're coming along for the ride. That's fantastic! I was surprised to discover that Papasidero has less people than SDT, because it seems like there are many more houses and things are spread out. I look forward to the next installments. Chris, grazie mille!

      Thank you John! Yes Our cute Riviera dei Cedri is the gift that never stops giving! The marmista is actually in San Nicola Arcella. I was just there having a piece of marble cut for a desk I am having refinished. They can do anything. The craftsmen here are second to none. Unfortunately I could not get in to see more as the building is in rough shape and needs some urgent love. You could see the crack created by the 1982 quake. It is a testament to the building model of hundreds of years ago that the palazzo is still standing!

    I am so sad to hear there was an earthquake there, some properties in Italy are not ready for earthquake, so hope it didn't affect that much people.
    Laura. ❤

      @SuperSavvyTravelersLLC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Laura, yes that was back in the 80's. Happily no one was injured and some of the older houses were damaged but the important thing is that no one was hurt. That said, they did rebuild and the town is spectacularly beautiful! I hope you can come see it!

  • @elizabethmaria9533

    Thanks Chris i loved it. i really want to see this little town and Im going to walk to the santuario down by the river. It reminds me of Maria SS. di Constantinopoli in Gimigliano (CZ).
    Chris if u get to travel down half way down in the middle of calabria region (where the narrow part) theres a old town called TIriolo, I would love u to see this town, when u get to the top of it theres a restaurant called '2 Mari'. Looking down over Tiriolo from up there is fantastic. Thanks again Chris ,Ciao

    I think it is better to walk up at first and walk down later than to have an uphill walk at the end. Unless there are lots of comfy coffee shops to rest in along the way.
    I always wonder about earthquakes because here in the Seattle area the brick and stone buildings don't fare very well, while the more flexible wood and steel are better. In all of the old towns I saw in Montenegro and Croatia there are a lot of buildings with steel straps that were put in after severe earthquakes. I suspect Antonello builds in a lot of earthquake safety features so these remodels look like the older buildings, but are much safer.
    Papasidero is very pretty. It looks like almost every place you look has a view of the valley

    • @SuperSavvyTravelersLLC
      @SuperSavvyTravelersLLC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ken,
      Yes I went through our house with the new buyer and Antonello detailed all of the earthquake/seismic retrofits. I was amazed. These plans are built like tanks

  • @carolbearce5318
    @carolbearce5318 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was wondering looking at all the new work and thinking this is a high seismic area & flooding in valley? Gorgeous though

    • @SuperSavvyTravelersLLC
      @SuperSavvyTravelersLLC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Carol! Ther is no flooding but earthquakes are a fact of life in Italy. Everything that is renovated has to abide by some pretty stringent seismic standards. I was amazed in talking with Antonello (our architect) all of heh seismic techniques they use. Our house for instance is built like a tank!

    What is the population of Papasidero?
    It population changes a lot in summer or in vacation?

    • @SuperSavvyTravelersLLC
      @SuperSavvyTravelersLLC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Laura, the population is only a few hundred in the historic center. It does not change a lot in Summer although Papasidero is a center for outdoor activities like rafting, trekking, picnics and hikes and biking. We like to take our E-bikes out there because it is so beautiful but in Summer there are not the huge crowds like near the sea. They do have services in the historic center like a butcher shop, some alimentary and a cafe.
